Had the same issues as yourself with my own 720hp C7.5. Bought it in March with only 47k on the clock and it happened within a few days of purchse. My issue was with hot starts, would fire up and immediately die. After 2/3/4 attempts it would eventually come to life. Common issue and I knew it was the HPFP's. When these go, hot (non)starts are the most common symptom you'll find. Easy job to swap them out and when you do if you have a look at the springs surrounding the fuel pump pistons you'll normally find them starting to rust. I noticed that the smell of fuel is nearly the same as it was before the new pumps, it's not excessive at all but always there. My guess is your original pumps were actually fine, but as they go with age (not mileage) then you didn't do any harm and we all know the benefits of preventative maintenance. As for oil level monitoring, there is actually a dipstick you can fit that will give a proper reading. It is listed as for the C6 4.2V8 engine but part no 079115607C will also fit the C7 4.0T engines as well. Our engines need 8.3L of oil so with the amount you put in and then seeing a few hundred millilitres short in the MMI is bang on. Can find that dipstick on the usual auction sites or amazon, etc. Cheers!
Its worth topping up the oil filter/housing with fresh oil as much as possible, shortens the time the oil pressure is low after start up. There some very detailed testing done on this and it makes a big difference to oil pressure and engine wear.
With the 4.2 S5's it takes 8.8 litres of oil, the last 800ml is what shows up on the mmi...so you cant really go wrong with it as long as you got the biggest bulk of oil in
hey i work for audi and lemme tell ya direct injected engines will always smell like fuel mildly a faint fuel smell is 100% normal now if you take the oil cap off and its pure gas pungent smell than yeah you got a problem theres a big difference in smell between normal and fault part
Totally agree, I only changed my HPFP because I saw a video and then went and smelt my fuel cap and panicked. However I was experiencing warm start issues so it was needed. The rest of the stuff I did since probably wasn't however! BUT at least I learnt how my car comes apart and goes back together lol. Huge thanks for watching and supporting the channel :)
Just found your channel, youtube suggested it. Nice garage and interesting video - look forward to more! Was a bit worried the car wouldn't be there when you opened the door after warming it up :D
Hey thanks for watching and subscribing to the channel. Haha I never thought about that actually 😂. The video would have been cut very short if i opened the door and it was gone haha!
Thanks for this video I have the same problem with my rs6 i changed the crankcase and oil screen, the pressure pump and still smells a lil be of fuel..at least yur video has put my assumptions to rest 😅
Thanks for watching, pleased it has helped you out. For £40 its worth getting one done next time you change your oil, but yes I think they just smell a little bit like fuel when it come down it! lol
@@InDadsGarage i will look at examine the oil on my next change i leave in sweden and i use 40w instead of 30w most car guys advise me to be using the 40w..i wanna knw yur thoughts
There is a huge debate between 30W & 40W. People seem to use both in these engines and different manufacutres suggest different grade some 30W and some 40W. I can't comment on what is needed for temperatures and conditions in Sweden, however as long as the oil meets the VAG specs in your manual, usually 504 then you should be good with either. HUGE CAVIET, I'm no expert though lol. My tuner told me to stick with OEM quoted 5-30W unless I am noticing the car burning excess oil, then switch to 5-40W.
Since you changed your pcv valve does your oil cap still suck on a lot ? Mine is really strong and if I take it off the engine cuts out how do you actually know if it’s broke ?
Hey, yes even after a brand new PCV the suction on the oil cap is still really strong, apparently this is normal for these V8 engines, they suck like a Dyson. I actually don’t think there was anything wrong with mine in the end 💁♂️. The main sign that your PCV is failing on these is a whistling noise on tick over which stops when you put revs on.
Ab...so..fricking...lutely, lol A road trip video will be on the channel in the near future for sure. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel :D
hi great videos you really scared me with that pcv😂 after you replace it still doing that vacum air when you try to take the oil cap out or is it normal, i got rs7, is doing a bit but no errors on tester a engine run smoothly..
@@7YALL When you remove the oil filler cap partially with the engine running you should have a strong suction and if removed totally the engine should sound like it's about to stall. If both happen then your PCV system is in good health ;)

To be fair 5w 30 is more than adequate if you change the oil frequently in the UK. As you know we don’t have mega hot weather and we have good quality fuel. One reason 5w 40 would be beneficial is if someone wanted to stretch out oil changes for whatever reason. That way when fuel dilution is factored in the lubrication properties are still somewhat maintained compared to using a 5w 30 oil. An oil analysis at the start wouldn’t give you content though 😉 😂
Great answer, I wish I could have articulated it in that way. Hopefully people in the comments can use that as good advice 💪. I’ll be sticking to 2-3k oil services so 5-30w sounds good based on that. Thanks for taking the time to watched and leave a comment 😃
@ no worries. Lovely C7 by the way. It’s been on my list of cars to have for a while. Had a long list of VAG performance cars. Last one was an 8V RS3 before going to the dark side and getting an M2. Miss that five pot sound but the V8 would be a good substitute.
I sometimes use Mann filters, the one I took out was Mann. It’s just what I picked up. Do you believe there is a huge difference in quality between them?
@InDadsGarage Yes we discussed on German oil forums that we should stick with OEM oil filter but in reality most of us sticks with mann filter which is usually the OE manufacturer. As for oil we found out Audi engines or in general all engines really enjoy Ravenol, Since they are pao ester based group iv oil and oils such as liqui moly, castrol etc is gas
This video it’s just f cringe… let’s waste liters of good oil for no reason… just because of little smell of gas..! And yeah if your car is burning oil as you showed in the video you do probably have a potential piston rings issue. ( not like you stated the opposite). I think it’s called OCD or Automotive Paranoia.
@ wow my boy answered right away.. 😂😂 nah don’t worry first and last video I’ll watch. “ I have some spare” “I’ll send you some” bha.. must be British humor.

Great video and clarifies for many owners. I do think there is potential that many have jumped onto the hpfp change out method too soon.

i went to liqui moly 5w50 molygen to my rs7
really happy with chose and oil stays at lower temperatures
You missed one more reason for fuel smell in the oil with the DIE. Short drives on a cold engine. It will do it.

Here in UK, Ravenol is not that known as in Europe/Germany.... It's a shame, as UK RS's sure will look worse inside...

Try with Nerol, now is sold in the UK. A Spanish brand at the level of Redline (higher than Ravenol). Search in youtube analysis of this brand.
