Not enough people are commenting on how shockingly complex this guitar performance is. Anyone could play these chords - she’s doing so much with them. Very impressive.

Yeah the basic chord progression is simple but she does a lot of really varied and intricate chord phrasing to add depth and melody to it. McLaughlan is mostly known for her beautiful voice but she's a very underrated guitarist too.

It's alittle too 'tight' for me (no ringing sustain of the strings..(not enough any way). But what control she has vocally, instrumentally. What a talented soundcrafter / songcrafter !!
Girl was 90s royalty for good reason. I’ve never tired of this song.
She's incredibly talented. To sing that beautifully while playing amazing guitar parts behind it. She's not exactly just strumming G-C-D here. A lot of people can put a capo on a guitar and bang out 3 chord shapes while they sing, doesn't make them guitar players in any way. She's really a very good guitarist.

Sarah stands in a class of her own. She can give a studio quality performance just sitting on her porch in Vancouver Canada. It doesn't get any better than that.

Sometimes a whisper is louder than a roar. Sarah has never been a power vocalist but her music has long made far more of an emotional impact than any of the roof raising belters of the 90’s. She was and remains sensational

Such a pure, beautiful, natural voice and a hell of a guitarist too, those are some intricate chord patterns mixed with melodic leads worked in there. I just can't understand why this isn't still up in the top charts today, sounds better than 99% of the music on the radio and the trash teen pop that are basically glorified karaoke singers. Sarah writes her music and can actually perform the parts herself, that gets 100% more respect and most other musicians any day. Fantastic take on this classic song...
ianA Beautiful guitar playing, she nails most of the intricate fills that are layered on in the studio version. The original is mostly loops and bits of snarling feedback.

Agreed. I've heard the studio version of this song for years but always just assumed most of the extra chord phrasing was done via overdubs. Fucking crazy to see her do all of that live on a single acoustic guitar while also singing. This woman is a tremendously underrated performer.
I've always been a fan of unplugged music, but this is incredible. Sarah plays the guitar as perfect as she sings. I could listen to her hours.
Sarah has astounded me for many years. She's brilliant, truly engaging. Not sure if she still reads these posts, but she is certainly being challenged by Adele in terms of voice and quality control/writing of songs. Sarah, I am left breathless by your recroded music and live performances and the causes you support. I am so proud you show that Canadian musicians are world class in all respects.
Can you just imagine randomly walking into some coffee shop one day, having never seen or heard of her before, and seeing this for the first time? If this didn't catch your attention you'd need to have your head checked. Hard to believe it's just a voice and a guitar. Simply amazing. Just beautiful.

I just shake my head when you watch a performance like this and realize the pure skill and musicality and talent musicians have... and how difficult it must be to succeed in the business this way.
And contrast that with popular singers today who just twerk and ride wrecking balls instead to succeed. Sad.

This is what hard work and a life of dedication to be the best you can be in your dream career looks like. She studied music in all forms, guitar and piano, along with vocal lessons for years! Dedicated her life to her craft and this is the result. She is amazingly talented, voice of an angel, and can play both guitar and piano with amazing precision and ease. I saw her at a nightclub in Montreal in the late 80's. Sitting at a table not more than 25 feet from Sarah McLachlan was quite a treat! What an amazing performance and I was lucky enough to see her in such an intimate setting.
