    It's funny that since this video, Binding Band has become a pretty legit item in competitive singles. Binding Band Heatran with Magma Storm is a pretty strong Pokemon, it forces so many predictable plays. It's something a lot of people prepared for in SPL during Gen 8 and iirc it's back in Gen 9? Fire Spin Hydreigon was a godsend in Gen 8 UU for the longest time too. It's really strange. I guess there's Whirlpool + Perish Song lower-tier waters but they don't really benefit from the items. Trapping moves mainly work on Pokemon you can't really afford to switch into, while wanting to use a bulky variant of the Pokemon.
    Protective Pads is also sold a little short. It's been used by tons of Pokemon in the past, specifically in Ferrothorn tiers. Garchomp uses it a lot, for example. The most notable use-case is Rapid Strike Urshifu, which takes tons of damage from Iron Barbs otherwise. Rocky Helmet is insanely common, even today, it's an extremely good item in a post-Heavy-Duty Boots world.
    I remember Metronome having some use-cases as well? I think Skeledirge uses it right now?

    There actually WAS a brief time period where Giga Drain was awesome: Gen 6 Contrary Serperior with Life Orb on Hyper Offense. Beef the feck up with one or two Leaf Storms, and then spam Giga Drain to completely negate the downside of Life Orb and just clap butt cheeks while sitting at full HP. That was really only viable during gen 6 because of power creep in later gens, but it _WAS_ really good at the time. ... And even in that scenario, Big Root was still not used. HA!

    As a comment on the seeds, they actually work wonderfully, especially with something like Hawlucha. Right now, Hawlucha is OU in significant part due to getting to switch in on terrains, activate a seed, get a swords dance on its switch in, and then just spam acrobatics and close combat until the entire opponent's team faints. I think I'd put it above both berries, since it's extremely unlikely that Chesto or Custap will be on the best set of any OU pokemon, while the seeds definitely are.
    Then again, this is very OU biased; once you get to the lower tiers you start to run out of terrain setters. In OU itself though, it's not hard or bad to set up terrain at all considering how many good pokemon also happen to set up terrain.

    Golurk is actually a fun Pokemon to use with Klutz + Assault Vest, since Klutz makes you unable to get the effects of your item, meaning it negates the draw back of it. Since Golurk can use Trick, it can Trick the Assault Vest onto a stall mon or something like it, and basically take away all of the things that make them annoying, excluding abilities. A pretty niche pick, but you can catch a lot of people of guard. You can do this with Swoobat and Lopunny, though Lopunny uses Switcheroo

    If you compare the amount of turns on Metronome, it will take 6 consecutive turns to do the same amount of damage that choice band did in those 6 turns. Only on the 7th will Metronome finally do more. And that's assuming you are attacking a single pokemon. If a choice band user faints the opponent in an earlier turn, that is extra turns the Metronome user needs to catch up on, so it will be beyond 7 turns before it comes out ahead.

    I know this isn't the right format, but red card is rly good in 3v3 singles just because leads are more important there. also with golisopod you can use first impression, get hit for half your health from even super effective moves because of hp ev bulk and then you both switch (red card triggers first, they don't choose and then you get to choose). I think that this item can get cracked in the right situation by giving you free setup, a good machup(or a free dead skarmory) and a still alive golisopod with half health and free 80 base power priority. this can also work with pokemon with switch moves and some bulk but you will be hitting the switched pokemon which is probably better since they don't plan to resist u-turn, but you also need to be slower.
    I don't think it should be ranked higher on this list tho since it is way more impact full in 3v3 than 6v6

  • @firebyrd7933
    @firebyrd7933 2 года назад +4

    Eject button is ok. It gives momentum which is a huge part of singles. I see it every once it a while pop into the meta. Momentum is so big with u-turn it makes protective pads and rocky helmet viable in many situations. Red card is a pretty good option on lead hazards although you also see mental herb a lot on that. The terrain seeds are a staple of hawluccha, but other than that you don't see them that often. Also fling gliscor is pretty good for a 4th move slot on some gen4/gen4 remake teams.
    Also with moves like rising voltage and the psychic one, there have been teams centered around terrain which would use terrain extender.

    just a note on life orb with sheer force, sheer force only negates the recoil of life orb if the move used has a side effect to be negated, which means if you use a move without side effect, for example earthquake, the pokemon with sheer force will take recoil, that's why the Nidos run special attack sets.
    also one note about rocky helmet, since there is a lot of sweepers that run recoil moves like fire blitz with life orb, if they attack a pokemon with rocky helmet and iron barbs or rough skin, you can watch their hp go from 100% to about 30% in stages, which is pretty funny, also is in range for them to be finish off by a priority revenge mon, like Scizor.

    Wide Lens can be pretty useful with one specific move: Triple Axel. Normally boosting a 90% accuracy move to 99% isn't a big deal, but when you need to hit that 90% check three times, it does make a serious difference. Normally you have a 72.9% chance to get all three hits of Triple Axel for that sweet 120 base power, but with a Wide Lens, it becomes a 97% chance, so you'll go from not getting all three hits over a quarter of the time to getting it nearly every time. However the main abuser of Triple Axel, Weavile/Sneasel, still prefers Boots or Choice Band, but Wide Lens on them for the much more reliable Triple Axel is genuine utility.

Clefable sometimes uses it with Trick to beat some of its counters/switchins like Heatran, Ferrothorn and Tornadus-T as the removel of its Leftovers/Heavy Duty Boots + a 12.5% damage each turn is actually a decent way to pressure them.

    Tricking a lagging tail on one of those numerous slow, bulky pokemon with good damage doesn't sound that horrible - being slow anyway, you'd likely go second anyway, so there is at least no disadvantage. Tricking it doesn't cost a turn - cause you get initiative on the next turn wether the enemy stay in there or swaps. And lagging tail could seriously cripple some adversaries, being similar to paralysis in such an instance.
    So yeah, a moveslot and an item for a thunderwave+thief does seem actually kinda useful. I think usually just using thunderwave and a good item is more efficient(especially for the full para chance). But sometimes, stealing the opponents item can actually be really helpful. It's really situational, but I wonder how often this could be good and on which mon..

    • @ImportedCheese

So, like, it could reduce damage from a Boomburst or a Return or something I guess. Overall very niche and meme but at least more useful than Float Stone lmao
    There's some other berries that weren't covered, but like, nothing major: Kee/Maranga for a +1 Def/Sp. Def after taking a physical/special hit; Jaboca/Rowap to inflict Rocky Helmet damage once if you're hit by a physical/special hit; Enigma is pretty much a supereffective berry but instead of reducing damage it heals 25% HP; Lansat is a pinch berry but for crit rate; Starf is a pinch berry but for a random stat but 2 stages (idk why you'd use Starf lol, if you're feeling lucky just use Focus Band, as you've said yourself lol);
    finally, Micle is a pinch berry that boosts the accuracy of the next move by 20%.
    They're all so niche and probably all go in the Bargain Bin so heh, it's fine lol, just wanted to talk about them for the other commentors to see. There's a lot of berries with various effects you wouldn't suspect ^^

      The Chilan berry (normal reduction berry) is only used in one situation to my knowledge; it’s used on deoxys-normal (yes, deoxys-normal, not one of the actually good formes), to survive one extremespeed from extreme killer arceus and OHKO it with counter
      This is obviously terrible, since you’re using deoxys-normal (deoxys-attack doesn’t survive extremespeed even with chilan berry), and this is, like, the one niche deoxys-normal has over deoxys-attack; if the opponent sees that you’re using deoxys-normal and they know about this, they know that you’re probably exploiting it and can just… not use extremespeed
      It is technically usable in every format where ekiller arceus is a threat, though, so that’s pretty much every ubers tier post-gen 4, and it’s the closest thing to a niche that chilan berry has

    metronome is even worse,
    so choice items boost 50% and over six turns metronome will boost damage by 0% to 100% Which means that by the 6th turn of metronome, you've done an additional 300% damage... which so did the scarf move.. because boosting you move by 50% for 6 turns is still 300%.... so you actually need to use the move SEVEN times to get that boost over a choice items... by which you may have already swept the opponents ledyba at that point

    Imo the absorb bulb stuff is ok in doubles. A +1 is a +1. Specs (which is obv a way better item) trades a really annoying restriction for a +1. Absorb bulb is like a very shitty specs that lets you use all your moves. But a +1 is quite powerful.
