The same kind of people were critical of the automobile over the horse, the electric guitar over the acoustic guitar and digital photography over regular photography. I've combined my acoustic kit with my TD20. It's pretty flippin' awesome.
Agreed. I just had the privilege to play this kit, and let me tell you, it's the real deal. Super professional in every regard, I would gladly use this as my only drum kit if I could afford it.
7.5K is a fair price for the best instrument/toy in the world. If u have enough money to have this beauty in your home/studio, lucky you! If don't, work hard, save money and buy it!
I had the same problem. When we were starting out, I could only afford one or two pieces at a time. Then, we started making money and I dumped everything I made back into gear. We finally played a huge show where I pocketed $2500 and bought a TD20 on ebay. Now, every time I get paid from a show, I put it all into gear, meaning I make NO money as a musician... but I got a GREAT kit.
I have an acoustic kit AND a TD20 kit. I've combined the two. Now, we can play straight acoustic ACDC and Skynyrd as well as the effects heavy Leppard and Prodigy. I look forward to getting the new TD30 kit..... just as soon as our garage band signs that million dollar record deal.
I don't have this set but I do have the older TD12 set and I can vouch not only for the flexibility but the durability of Roland equipment. I love what I can do with the sounds and the customization. I can tweak it to play along with any song and sound very close to the original equipment. There's just so much you can do with the sound set and the tuning. Acoustic just doesn't work for me where Iive. The electronic set has been fantastic for my situation and it is very enjoyable to play.
They put all that effort in... while snare and cymbals seem to be under control, the tomtoms still sound annoyingly artificial. I own a TD20 expanded, and I only use it as a MIDI converter since I tried ROMplers. ROMplers dont have the ability to change shell depth and stuff, but the sounds are unbeatably realistic. Its the real drums, its the real studio with all possibilties that a studio has. Nothing can beat that.
Well, it sounds like a much improved sounding electronic kit. I've played on a friends earier model Roland kit and it sounded more like a cheap drum machine, this sounds a lot more realistic, obviously I would have to play around with it in person, but so far, it seems like it's much improved.
Roland's amazing, and the quality has no peers, but to think this is worth more than a top tier acoustic kit is insane. Digital kits are cool, but until they can bring the price down, these are just silly. An older version, used from ebay, coupled with superior drummer is a better deal. Hell, you could buy a new PC for the kit and still come out ahead of this thing. Roland, I love ya, but you're smoking the crack with these TD kits...sad but true.
I agree. Im not impressed with the presets either especially for that price point. Id still be skeptical if it were in a 1,500 price range. If it were about $700 then I'd really be considering it.
While I own and love a digital drum set, I do find it upsetting to hear people disregarding the traditional acoustic kit as something only older people would want to play. After all, all the greatest drummers use/have used them. Each to their own I guess!
@Forevertreedude It's the pads that I enjoy. Being able to take advantage of better sound libraries will be awesome as well (you know that vst drum makers are going to capitalize on the improved pads' response). I'm ordered up, and should have it in a couple of weeks. Can't wait to unbox it!!! (RUclips videos ensue!)
How modular is this kit for, let's say, adding another cymbal, tom, or even another ride? I'm used to my friend's double-ride acoustic kit, and it's been bad for me, I guess, LOL.
Question - Can you plug headphones into these so that only I can hear myself play and not bother anyone else because I am moving into an apartment soon and cant have my acoustic drums for obvious reasons, advice is appreciated
There are four on ebay from $1500-$2000... The new one costs $2100. Changed my mind after looking deeper. Saw it had a USB slot & assumed USB-3 which might control VSTs with less latency than MIDI... It's USB-2.
The biggest advantage to the Roland V drums is they give you great control over your sound. It is a lot easier to get consistent sound with the hassles of micing. The only disadvantage is the cost to add more cymbals, it is not really possible to do. But, to have all what you really need and to be able to get amazing studio quality drums live is really what this appeals to. I agree the cost should not be more than automobile. It needs to be accessible to more drummers. Other wise they will cry, just get a real set!
is the VH-13 physically as loud as the VH-12? one of the problems with the VH-12 is that it's just physically loud when you hit it/when you do foot splashes (when the top and bottom piece come together).
Let's do some calculations: $6,000 v-drum kit $2,000 of tons of samplers and plugins $2,000 macbook $500 focusrite clarett 2pre interface and some midi cables $10,500 in total... $10K to get all the sound you want
MSRP $9K but it's not too hard to find it on sale for about $6800. Compared to some custom/classic guitars and limited production synths, it's comparable.
Still the best module ever created, I have the 1, 17 and 27. None compare at all to the 30, the 1 has the best sounds believe it or not, far better than the 17 or 27. Edit: the 1 was a later release, it did not fall in line numerically as many who are newbies think.
I think it would be cool to get these pro drummers all together in a room blindfold them and see if they can hear and point out which is the V-drum and which is a real accoustic drum. Like a taste test.
This new Roland 30kv kit it's too expensive cause it's the new one..... but what about the vR td-25kv , it costs only $ 2,360 to 2,570 or the -11kv .... just $ 1,570 / maybe 1,359 on sales :) if you want to buy ....Roland is the best of all for me , by the way......, I'm looking to buy some kit perhaps the 25kv ......
I had a TD12 which I sold because it sounded too synthetic to me and for that reason just didn't motivate me. I wanted a real acoustic sound. I wish I could own a real acoustic set but living in an apt makes that an impossibility. The TD-30 really sounds like they are almost damn there. I think the toms still have a bit of machine sound to them though. Also, you won't pick up on the real differences between real and electronic until you actually spend some time with them.
Thanks for the inquiry, Jason. Happy to help. They certainly do make some noise. But being mesh heads, they are fairly quiet. The biggest challenge is usually the vibration of the bass drum and hi-hat pedals. They can transmit through floors quite a bit, but there are some isolation units Roland makes to help that: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/NE10--roland-ne-10-noise-eater-isolation-pad Let me know if you have further questions, and thanks again. Sure. ...If you can name even 1 acoustic kit that can provide an equal range of sounds to a TD-30KV while simultaneously being played at full-performance effort as one's baby comfortably sleeps in an adjacent bedroom!
How much are they? I would kill to have one of those!! I've got a roland td4 and when I saw this it's like something jumped up and bit me. I NEED ONE SO BAD!!
+DarkDrift0r Sorry man but no way is the DTX 950 cymbals better than these. Trust me I have this kit and the cymbals are amazingly real sounding. Dynamics on this thing is out of this world
Now, if only they could afford to manufacture, market, and retail them that inexpensively. While companies constantly mark-up the prices of everything, in the end of the day, it still costs money to make things.
+David Baca Depends on use. Pearl Reference kit, same size - $3k, Zildjian K series cymbals $1k, rack $500, all the studio microphones to get pristine sound - $1500 - you'll be well on your way if you choose top of the line, pro choices. That's only one kit, one set of cymbals, no processors. The niche this Roland gear fills doesn't give as great stage presence (in my opinion), but for someone needing 12 different sounding kits, always plug-in ease to a sound system, no mic'ing up, change kits from rock to jazz during a set - it's comparable and makes sense.
By professionals, I meant vs. casual musicians who won't consider a $7500 kit reasonable unless they can expense it or if they just have cash to burn. So what if the talented drummers you know can't afford it? Do they really NEED it or do they just WANT it? A talented drummer can use a box + take-out chopsticks and still make music. Better drums won't make you more talented. Cost isn't the issue. This was never intended to be a "value" purchase!!! Roland is a business, not a charity...

Classic 80,s :)
Wow that beat at 6:14 is unbelievably good
I played this today in my local music shop. its the most amazing electronic kit i have ever played :D

Agreed. I just had the privilege to play this kit, and let me tell you, it's the real deal. Super professional in every regard, I would gladly use this as my only drum kit if I could afford it.
They should include a min van with the deal so, you can insure it with your auto-policy!
Played on one today, bloody beautiful sounds! Going to go for a TD-25KV if I had the choice though, money-wise...
good choice, practically no difference, great module
Yeah, TD 25 KV is a good choice.

This is where Steve Fisher shines... ROLAND!!!
I'm thinking about buying Superior Drummer 2.0 to use with my TD9 kit.
I don't even play drums and I want one of these now!
I'd like to know Roland earnings after selling THIS specific model. And then I'd like to know their earnings after the top Td9 kit.

are you able to add more cymbals? for example add on the zildjian electronic cymbals to have more cymbals at once?
Yea
I hav dis kit it sounds amazing especially when u play rock band on extra hard
i will get one for sure
Question - Can you plug headphones into these so that only I can hear myself play and not bother anyone else because I am moving into an apartment soon and cant have my acoustic drums for obvious reasons, advice is appreciated
yes you can
Pretty sure thats one of the main reason people want electronic drums!
Could do away with all beep, bloop, timg, whiz drum kits.
I've seen this for not quite $7,500. It is by far the best electronic kit out there which unfortunately puts it out of reach for all but a few.
There are four on ebay from $1500-$2000... The new one costs $2100. Changed my mind after looking deeper. Saw it had a USB slot & assumed USB-3 which might control VSTs with less latency than MIDI... It's USB-2.

I actually went the pearl eliminator demon drive pedal route... lol
It is a great tool and if you use software drum sounds like BFD you will sound as good as any acoustic kit professionallty mic'd in a pro studio
can it be used with plugins such as
addictive drums ?
Let's do some calculations:
$6,000 v-drum kit
$2,000 of tons of samplers and plugins
$2,000 macbook
$500 focusrite clarett 2pre interface and some midi cables
$10,500 in total...
$10K to get all the sound you want
it actually has a USB direct to DAW on the TD30 so more like 9.5K
Doni Dozh dont think a macbook is a necessity so just drop the price for regular laptop to like $500
That's quite right Doni, but then again, the Pearl Masterworks Heritage Accoustic one is like 9.950 US at my place...
Arcade games jam at 7:50. I remembered the nights I spent playing Street fighter LMAO :)
