Avi Kaplan (with beard and beanie and pronounced Aahh Vee) was the original the basso profundo and majored in opera. Its all Avi accept when he sings his solo. Scott Hoying maintains the lower register while Avi sings. Avi is my all time fav. He left the band in mid-late 2017 and helped them find his replacement Matt Sallee. Avi has a solo career now and is doing his thing. They are each amazingly talented, unique and creative. When they come together its heavenly. Not of this world. Kevin Olusola (beat boxer extraordinaire) is a tenor and does sing some but is primarily the beatboxer. He plays the cello too and coined the phrase "cello boxer" because he does both simultaneously. The trio, Scott Hoying (blond baritone), Kirsten Maldonado (mezzo soprano) and Mitch Grassi(in the hat and super tenor) were close friends and grew up together in Texas. Great reaction though we did lose the sound a couple of times. Hope to see you do more PTX. They won 3 Grammy awards. Their first was Daft Punk (medley). Please watch that one. It is way different and still super amazing. They make everything their own. Thanks!
Kevin the beatboxer is a tenor and sings when he’s not using his mouth to beatbox. They do an a cappella version of Bohemian Rhapsody that you need to hear and their version of Can you Feel the Love Tonight.

This is one of the greatest songs ever written, but it's not even close to being a religious song. The songwriter, Leonard Cohen, was an Atheist Jew. This is a song about lost love, lust, sex, heartbreak, loneliness and isolation that uses Biblical references to tell the story. If you've ever actually listened to the lyrics it should be clear that it is not religious at all, and is in fact just the opposite. Over the years, Cohen wrote more than 80 verses to the song and always encouraged artists covering it to choose the verses they felt best fit the song as they wanted to sing it. The lyrics heard here are from Cohen's actual original version.
Superman curl 😂😂 love it. That’s Scott! My personal favorite of the group, so glad you recognized his belting there he KILLS IT at the end. He also does bass when the bass is singing if you listen for it you can really hear it in this one, he does amazing!

Also notice that Scott covers the bass line while Avi is doing his solo. He has an amazing five octave range for a natural baritone but he isn't Avi - of course, there really is only one Avi Kaplan...glad that when he left the group he continued (and continues) to release music on his own that shows thatstunning vocal ability. @@rhondar5446 I didn’t say that Cohen didn’t use biblical references. I’m saying that he did not intend to write a religious song. That may be how people choose to interpret it, but it’s not how it was written.
On this song he is strictly beatbox but on sound of silence and bohemian rhapsody he sings as well

This song is not Christian dude. It's written by a Jewish-Born Atheist and it's about love, loss, sex, and mostly ORGASMS! Do some research. It is not religious, it just uses religious IMAGERY
It irks me every time when people say it's a Christian song.

@@julie8100 There is a Christianized version they were originally going to do, but decided it was disrepectful to Cohen, so did the original instead. By then it was already slated to be on the Christmas album so they kept it.

Amazing Grace will also touch your spirit. It is equally wonderful. PTX has a way of bringing the listener right into the song.
This song when they sing in indescribable. I get goosebumps, my body feels cold, I have the urge to fall to my knees and cry. I also have the urge to dance, almost like I’m floating on air. I just want to dance gracefully. So powerful.
You had me rolling. First you were not sure but then once the song got moving, your smiles and hops got me going. Don't know why it worried me that you would not like this take of Hallelujah. The bass is Avi, white Jesus with the beanie! But when he sings, Scott, the first guy, a baritone, does bass for him, then they switch back! Kevin can sing too, but he hardly does as the beat boxer. All the members have their own channels where they do solo work aside from Pentatonix. No, the bass is Avi, with the beard and the beanie who sings 2nd. Kevin is a tenor (although not as high as Mitch, the 4th singer). Kevin has a sweet falsetto.

We all know why pausing is needed, and most of us are just fine with it. It's a great idea to listen again without interruptions to really appreciate the flow. Kevin the beatboxer will sing, but a lot of the time he's working like mad doing the incredible sounds. When you first hear his voice, there's a surprise in store. Too bad there was some glitch with the sound a couple of times. And that was a pretty abrupt end. But looking forward to more of your reactions.

Otherwise, a lot is missed. Kevin, the awesome beatboxer, sings tenor. He also plays multiple instruments, writes and arranges music. He has written some of my favorite Pentatonix originals. He does sing, however his beatboxing skills are masterful! He plays several musical instruments. The new guy is Matt, he's doing great! Avi, who was with Pentatonix previously has bowed out of Pentatonix to embark on a new journey of his own and enjoy more time with family.

I think the dislikes are just from people who disagree with your opinion. I've long thought the like/dislike function is antiquated and inaccurate. It should include other options like 'agree, disagree, and probably other options.
Kevin Olusola does most of the "percussion", sings some tenor backup, some tenor solos and plays cello sometimes including celloboxing.
This song is a very gut feel kind of song, so it has very simple beatboxing. Try "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Daft Punk" and "Love Again" for more complex beatboxing from Kevin.
He has also been co-author on a number of songs. He plays sax also, but not on Pentatonix. See his solo work, sometimes called KOvers.

Love your channel and just subbed. Keep pausing and reacting because that avoids copyright and we Pentaholics don’t mind the pauses. Scott is the big blonde guy, Avi is the bass and left in 2017 and replaced by Matt, Kirstin is the girl who changes her looks constantly, Mitch is the counter tenor with the great hat and also changes his appearance, and last but not least is Kevin the beat boxer.

The base is Avi with the beard and stocking cap on. He's awesome!
The reason the base changed on that line is because Avi had his solo. Avi sang base for everything except when he had his solo. When Avi sang his solo, Matt took over the base line.

if you really want to hear Kevin's voice you should watch some of his individual songs or Mary did you know.
The last time you paused on Kirsten's solo, you knocked out the sound of the video for us. I don't know if you noticed, but on the second verse, Scott took over the bass so Avi could sing his solo. Avi was the original bass singer for the group, and even though Matt is great, I haven't heard anyone on Avi's level of bass.

Leonard Cohen, who wrote this song, said this was his favorite version! Great reaction!
This was an urban legend that has actually never been confirmed, and considering he passed away just a couple of days after Pentatonix's version was released, it seems very unlikely he ever even heard it. I'd like to think he would have been proud of this version, though.
That us actually incorrect. He was very ill and died days after its release. He did give input to PTX on the arrangement however.
Actually he did hear it after it was recorded. According to Scott H. PTX wanted to change some lyrics since it was going on their Christmas album but Cohen discussed it with them saying he'd prefer they didn't change the lyrics & was sent the finished version before it was released, which is when he said something to them about it being a favorite. I don't know if PTX has ever released exactly what was said so I won't make up a quote here but the rest is on an article with Scott from the Dallas news. As someone who is very ill, I can tell you that doesn't mean we can do nothing.

Everyone can sing amazing and they all have names. From left to right it's Kevin, Mitch, Kirstie, Scott and Avi. This was my first time watching one of your videos and besides you occasionally making fun of people which I have to say didn't thrill me I liked it. Just for future reference it would be more enjoyable if you didn't keep muting the video after you paused it. You took out the end of the video after asking if Kevin could sing. He can sing, play the cello, and beatbox probably better than most. Just saying.

This is wonderful! However your comment about the best individual singer is incorrect, please check out kd Lang at the 2005 Juno awards. You will not be disappointed.
I start every video I watch with a “Like” because I respect the reactor’s time put in to do the reaction. But in truth that is the only reason I’ll actually “Like” this reaction. I am all for interrupting the video bur for me the number of stops ruined the flow of the entire reaction. I listen to a lot of reactors and those who can interject their commentary in a way that allows the listener to experience a continuity or flow to the reaction seem the popular to me. The danger, as I see it, is that I now know you likely have this many interruptions in all your reactions so unfortunately I won’t be looking at any of your other reactions including Pentatonix. This is not a criticism, it’s your channel and you can do with it what you want but if you are looking for new subscribers you may want to consider cutting down the number of your interruptions, at least, where I am concerned.
