Thank you so much! I have been using this poetry annotating technique since I first saw your video on “Ozymandias” because I love how the annotations set the students up to write the essay. Since we switched to digital exams last year, students are struggling to annotate the poem like this. Do you have any suggestions for them to break up their annotations like this while taking the exam digitally? Last year we thought of highlighting each section a different color, but the blue book testing app only gives one color. Please help…I am struggling with showing them how to use this method digitally in blue book. Thank you so much!
Unfortunately, this is one of the real drawbacks of Bluebook. The best way I have to deal with it is to produce the annotations on the scratch paper allowed. Rather than rewrite the poem, though, in the center column, the students could just write the line numbers they are referring to from the poem on the screen. If this doesn't make as much sense as it seems to me, let me know and I'll send you may phone number, and I'll try to explain better. :)

The students weren’t loving this idea, but I am going to try to do it this way when we work on this poem next week! Maybe they just need to see it applied to fully grasp it!
