I love watching Ben create... And I can't tell you how much I want an electric planer.... especially since a good friend of mine came by on Friday and brought his band saw, two belt sanders, spindle sander, router, drill press and drill press vise to "store" in my shop while he and his family are in the process of selling their home and purchasing a new one to move into. He was also kind enough to bring the materials- nearly all re-purposed- to make a portable stand on casters for the drill press, since my shop is quite tiny, and already far too full for my own comfort. And being a gentleman, he even assembled the stand and mounted the drill press to it for me. What a guy! I know he had use of a planer for his job as a flooring installer, but I believe it belonged to his boss, or I'd have use of one as well. I will just have to make due with what I have, if I can decide from all the delicious potential projects swimming in my brain on what to begin to create first... and no, it won't be a guitar, as a guitar is beyond my capabilities just yet.
@@richardlittlewood8709 - I'm in the state of Minnesota, USA. I have never heard of that brand, but I'll do some checking to see what I can find that might be along those same lines as the product you've mentioned. Thank you!
I'm moving away from challenges like that, they are fun but don't teach much, except that Chris ignores all time constraints and I am good at designing under pressure.. and can finish the job most times ;) B
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Maybe Tom would be better under pressure than Chris? Only reason I ask about challenge builds is because it makes for interesting viewing for those that aren't here to learn, but are fascinated with guitars; I can imagine that a large percentage of your (non patreon) audience are never going to build a guitar.
This is a staged withdrawal.. next series is a kit build and then I'm going to do some inlay etc with a true back to basics guitar building masterclass series coming next year. A simple guitar but with clear instructions and plans etc to follow along with. Should be fun. B

MUCH better - it focusses more on the build nd less on the tutorial for a change. And a bit of banter rather than the overdone self-comedy routine. Makes me consider the Patreon aspect now
I would have swapped ends on the body at 13:15, dark at the bottom - light towards the neck, just my opinion on a beautiful build nonetheless. That silky oak is fantastic.
Ben perhaps you should build a guitar under Christopher’s tutelage (as if a relatively inexperienced student), and then vice versa. I know at first glance, it seems a bit redundant (given the incredible instruments you respectively and collaboratively produce).... but I could see a lot of value coming out of the experience. Thanks for all the Crimson Team do.
always cool to see your work , very cool designs, watching your past videos really great and actually gave me an idea for an interesting wood for a guitar body , dont have a clue though if the wood i was thinking about would work for it though, some day when i learn to build a guitar. but anyhoo awesome stuff
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars I personally don't like voice over that much. For me what makes your videos interesting is hearing your thought processes. What you're trying to do etc. So there were parts of this video where I just had no idea what you were doing or why. Ben , I noticed that while gluing for the fret board you taped the truss rod channel , I do this but remove the tape before clamping down . Do you typically leave the tape over the channel then clamp ? Thank You
I want to make my own guitar, but I still haven't started the build. Now I want it to be something like Van Halen's Frankenstrat, with a Floyd Rose trem and a Seymour Duncan SH-11 Custom Custom humbucker in the bridge position, to get that 80s metal sound. But since I don't have a decent strat yet, I think I'll put a 59 fender strat single coil in the neck position. It's really weird, so I don't know if that's a good idea, so someone please let me know. Thanks !
When I change strings, I keep the 2" nearest the ball end to clear out bunged up glue nozzles. The twist gives a bit of rigidity. Bass strings are good for larger nozzles.

I have an idea for a next build, what about a headstock shaped guitar body with guitar body headstock?
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars wow, I haven't expected a response, totally made my day! I tried to Google it like for 10s before posting and found nothing, but for sure someone had to have the same idea before. Anyway your skill with awesome guitar design would create something magnificent. Have fun!

@@CrimsonCustomGuitars Welcome back! :)
I listened closely, heard Ben's brain crying out for coffee,
All joking aside,d that is seriously a gorgeous bit of wood for the guitar body
Nice to see high quality work with building that neck. The most important piece of guitar.
It always blows my mind that Ben can resaw boards on a bandsaw without a fence.
Wow! That neck blank is marbled like A5 Wagyu beef! Tasty-- *very* tasty!!

Thanks, great seeing a new project! The fact we see both the design process as well as the making is the best!
Every Santander employee is crying in a corner after seeing Ben just casually spread glue with his Visa
That silky oak looks otherworldly.
It's amazing wood isn't it? B
Beautiful wood, see Ben use the credit card to spread the glue is priceless :-)
Maybe do a guitar build out of just scrap wood... love to see that!

Ok, finally playing catch up. What species is the 'silky oak' that you are using as what I know as silky oak is Grevillea robusta and look different?
"With Sepcial Guests....."!
had to retype that "typo" as it autocorrected it on my Mac!😁
Nice work I don't think that's silky oak 'Gevillea Robusta' though, unless there are other silky oaks out there?
This is what I'm hoping for, someone who will tell me exactly what it is. It was sold to me as silky oak, or sheoak. But I'm still not convinced. B
Hi Crimson Guitars, in 02:39 min is cutting some like a hard black and white wood paper, what´s exactly that stuff? thanks very much!
Aloha!
Yo, yuppiehi!

Can I ask what the black matterial/ wood is that you use in this video in between the top and the back??
Miss bens internal monologue as he's building. But it looks like it's going to be beautiful as always

Superglue is a fabulous substance, but the only stuff it doesn't glue together is the plastic bottle it comes in.
Mine does, AND the pin that clears the nozzle !
How high does a sycamore grow? If you cut it down...
Beautiful though :)
that wood you used for the neck looks like wagyu steak :)

how many clamps does this company own? i know the answer: not enough.
Torify an SG build.
The toothpicks you used on the neck I havent seen done on other videos. Is this a 'hack' to make sure the fret board is alligned to the neck?
Yes it is. Some luthiers use small nails.
When Ben draws the entire shape of the body freehand, I get overwhelming amounts of anxiety😐
Sepcial, very sepcial ;-)
Lol! I am going to have words with the editor about her selping tomorow. B
why are there so many names at the end?
Patreon surporters
Ok at around 11:00 he had routed a space for the truss rod... what were the other 2 on either side for?
Carbon fiber stiffening rods
was that graphite rods either side of the truss rod ?
most likely carbon fiber
What are the 2 metal-looking strips he installed along either side of the truss rod?
Carbon fibre reinforcement rods for neck stability

Carbon Fibre reinforcement strips
awesome but how did you pull that wood in half at 4:43? are you superman in disguise message me if it's a secret
There's a RUclips channel called 'This Old Tony', and he does similar tricks karate chopping metal bars in half. I think this is Ben's tribute to TOT.
Lately i have been hearing quite a few background music with far too much of the string chirping to really be able to enjoy it.

Mr Rossa thinks that oak is a terrible choice of wood for an instrument (don`t tell Brian May)
