Anna seems lovely. I was about to make a comment on some misconceptions in some statements here on metal clay, but then realized this is not her channel and she is just being featured! So this might be pointless, but I’ve been metalsmithing & jewelry making since 2011, and using metal clay since 2017, so even if this doesn’t get to her maybe another jeweler will find it helpful. While it IS best practice to try as much as you can to keep your metal clay from prematurely drying out, it’s not unusable if it happens. I reconstitute clay all the time. First, the little dry bits sanded/filed off should be scraped into a small airtight jar (like, dime-sized diameter jar) and either water or a specific reconstitution liquid (I buy mine from Cool Tools-biggest difference is that it has a mold inhibitor) in a little spray bottle with it nearby. You use this by spritzing a bit of the liquid onto a blank surface (I usually use a tile) then dumping some of the dry clay flecks in, mixing up to make a paste. As thin or thick as you need it to do something as simple as joining two larger surface areas of clay pieces to thick enough to sculpt into filigree. This same reconstitution works with larger pieces of dried clay to get them back to fresh-like consistency, where they can then be used just as you would straight out of the package. Zero bits of clay (or any metal, for that matter-even sanded dust from fired pieces can be reused…and should be; it adds up $$ quickly!) should be going to waste. Cool Tools also sells a little clay keeper jar that keeps humidity so your resealed large clay chunks won’t dehydrate And one last tip on the soldering: paint an inhibitor on the highly detailed parts you don’t want the solder to flow to…especially when just starting off soldering and controlling it perfectly is still not a thoughtless habit. Even with filing you’ll never get that same detail back before you covered it in solder. Hopefully this can get back to Anna and/or help someone else!
I know it's been a year since this video, but I absolutely loved spending your day with me! When I started metal clay, I also went to a park and used all nature for my jewelry. I also made other types of jewelry too. Thank you for sharing, and I look forward to seeing more content from you all they way to Oregon, USA!
Anna’s video was really good. A confident style with lots of info for the newbie and lots of tips that would take a long time to find for yourself. She’s a lovely person too. It’s good to see recognition that running your own business needs lots of skills other than ones directly involved in the art of making! The packaging materials for instance, very coordinated, very professional looking and lovely with it. Much like Anna really! 🙂 Thank you.
I enjoyed the video very much, even though I have done most of the things that were shown, because it is always good to see what other people do, and how they think about doing it, as this is helpful for getting ideas and techniques that will take you forwards, and make your things better..... But, I think that it would be good/helpful to know, how the different people using silver clay, are dealing with the off cuts and dust, from sanding the pieces before they are fired..... So, I think that a video about this would be helpful, especially for people who are just starting that thinks that the clay is expensive because of wastage..... Because I am collecting as much of it as possible, even down to saving the dried silver clay by washing the sanding papers and files, in an old jar, and then collecting the clay from the bottom when it has settled, which I have been topping my silver paste pot up with...... And, all of the trimmings(lumps, & failed or broken pieces that are obviously green(unfired)) are ground up in a pestle and mortar, which I add to the powder(that doesn’t need to be ground down further) from rubbing down the green pieces with “sandpaper”(wet&dry) or files, which I reconstitute into clay............
I love this video, Anna gives me inspiration and so many ideas as I approach retirement and finally have the time to explore some creative options! Thank you so much for this video, I really enjoyed it!
So fun! Thank you for sharing such a fun easy but productive day! As an amateur jeweler, i am very inspired now to try to do this more as a proffesional, like you! I can't wait to try PMC, you make it look so easy, i thought itd be a lot harder!
Hi Anna I have just found your videos I have never heard of metal clay wow that is so lovely what you have made I am 62 years old I have just started my jewellery business what oil did you use 😮
Hi Anna! :-). Can you tell me how you create the texture on your organic bands that you are showing here. I just love them!. Do you press the shells/texture into the clay?
Thank you so much for sharing. I have attempted pmc silver clay with my torch but have been unsuccessful. You've inspired me to give it another go! Question - do you fire all of your pieces with a torch?
Hi Lori! Sorry you've been having trouble with your metal clay pieces, we would recommend checking out our helpful and free metal clay guides and tutorials. Hopefully our advice helps 😊 www.kernowcraft.com/jewellery-making-tips/metal-clay-techniques-and-advice
Inspired by your excellent video (watched at least six times) and the beautiful daisy necklace I bought from you, I finally have the courage to use my metal clay for the first time today! I’ve made moulds from the flowers in our ‘lockdown’ garden which have so much meaning to our family and will start with the Erigeron Karvinskianus which grows freely all over our driveway and patios and always reminds me of our beloved Cornwall. I’ve been trying to find the metal filing plate which looks so useful but can’t find it on Kernowcraft or any of the main websites. Can you tell me where I can find it please?
So glad you loved Anna's video Pauline! I'm not sure where Anna bought the filing plate, it might be worth getting in touch with her via social media to ask. Her links are in the description!
***This post is directed to Ms. Anna Davenport. I am unsure if this video has been posted by Ms. Davenport herself or a third party, but I hope my post gets to her. Thanks!🙂*** Very good video! You have a calming, soft and clear voice. Your presentation was clear and concise. Thank you so much for generously sharing your knowledge, process, experience and your day with us all! As for the moulds you make, have you ever tried a liquid mixture of silicone to get the most details? There are many available which have the same procedure as your example here. Your work is beautifully intricate and you make it seem so easy (which usually means it's not😉). Thank you, again. God Bless 😃
Yes! Here's a brilliant tutorial with Michelle, where she uses enamelling to add beautiful colour to her designs 😍 www.kernowcraft.com/jewellery-making-tips/metal-clay-techniques-and-advice/metal-clay-enamel-flower-earring-tutorial

Thank you! I hope you have a great day! 😃
Interesting, thank you. I have used hair spray on very delicate petals. I find it helps with definition. So... forgive me, maybe a few less? 😊
can you make the silver clay different colours? eg if you wanted the centre of that daisy to be yellow? i really want to try this!
