I snagged a bottle of Baker's when I was in Kentucky last year.
Eight years one month, also 107 proof and barreled 01-2014.
I've said many times that Knob Creek isn't my preferred bourbon profile, that also goes for Booker's.
But even knowing that, I made it a point to visit the Jim Beam distillery when I was in the area, and found this brand I was mostly unaware of.
It has officially become my preferred release from Beam Suntory, and I hope to always have a bottle on my shelf. 🖖😎🥃
This quickly has become one of my favorite bottles to reach for in my cabinet. Great volume of flavors & I think it's the perfect proof point
$63 in my total wine. My bottle is 7yrs exactly, it drinks a little hot but with a cube of ice is very good. I wonder how these older ones taste, I guess that's the mystery of single barrel. I'm willing to buy again. Cheers!
Love that Baker’s! Always have. My son picked up a bottle of the single barrel select for me, aged 11 yrs 8 months. Exquisite Keep up the great work. Your videos are always informative and immensely enjoyable.
My wife gifted me this bottle and I was hoping for the higher age variant. Looked on the label and what do you know “8yrs 10months” can’t be mad at that. I definitely get the cherry and cinnamon. It’s just a hitter all around and trumps any Blantons I have tried!!!
When Baker’s went from Small-batch to Single-barrel I was truly impressed with the uptick in quality of this spirit.
I'm down with the single barrel. That's good to see.
Knob single barrel is one of the best things. So is four roses single.
Bakers is great, just a bit harder to find. I'm sure out of sight out of mind plays a role. Bookers is just so much nicer compared to most! Knob is great and very versatile. Those three cover so much in a whiskey list or in a "base" for your bar shelf. Add on four roses single..... yes. Good times.
As a professional teacher of English as a Foreign language to cooperate CEOs and the like, your description of 'what it takes' was the best I've heard in a while.
It's 107 since that was often the cask strength after it was "fully aged" back when the barrel entry proof was lower. I also heard (and I assume since it makes sense) is that Baker's has a lower than 125 barrel entry proof.
Just visited my small hometown in WA for thanksgiving and found Bakers for $50. Never tried it before but my bottle is the exact same age statement and bottling date as yours in the review! Can’t wait to try it now.
Got the same batch you did. A great thick peanut butter flavor with a solid proof that makes it linger. Wonderful.
The fact that I love Basil Hayden, and Knob Creek, and Makers Mark, makes we think I should try this, Thanks Guys, Cheers! 🥃
God for it. My favorite readily available whisky is KC 9 single barrel, and I love this Baker's 7.
I had a sampler probably 15 years ago with Bakers and Bookers, and Bakers was certainly the one I preferred. I hope it's still available here in Wyoming (weird laws here, not everything is available, and you can't mail-order alcohol), because I'd certainly like to try this "new" offering.
Walked past Bakers a million times but decided to pick one up this evening (8yr 7 mo) Looking forward to getting into this one once i bury one of my opened everydays. Good review fellas!
I got my hands on an Octomore 13.2 on y'all's commentary about Octomore. The price point had me extremely concerned I would hate it because taste is subjective (for instance, I love Islays but the other Bruichladdich just aren't my jam). Turns out you guys were right - Octomore is absolutely incredible. I love it and I can't wait to share it with others.
I’ve been watching this channel off and on for quite a while. More on as of late. And while I’ve always enjoyed the episodes, I often rolled my eyes at some of Rex’s antics. But after hearing his take on how to market teaching, I feel I understand his point of view much better then I have in the past. And it makes sense, I will still roll my eyes at it, but it now makes much more sense.
Such a cool bottle, too 👍
A top shelf offering that many overlook. I wonder how it blinds with Knob Creek single barrel selects?
I picked up a bottle of this after seeing the new bottle and not trying bakers for years. Definitely a great pour.
There’s a decent difference between ages. I’ve had a couple 8 yr 10 months, and am currently working on a 7 yr 10 month. More peanut Beam on the younger, more fruit on the older. Still has that lovely wood/brown sugar. I got more strawberry than cherry on the 8 yr 10 month, but def fruit.
I bought one of these along with a Knob 12, I enjoyed the bakers more. Now I want to track down a 13 for my 13th anniversary next year.
I picked up a bottle of Baker's 13 this weekend. Looking forward to comparing to 7.
The WR Malt whisky is straight up hot black tea . After tasting that note I began to find it in a few other things. I find the malt carries the tea note while the rye provides a dill note.
A couple of weeks ago I finished my last old small batch bottle. Great bourbon.
I lived in Louisville when a lot of the beginning of this was going on. I visited both Beam and Makers and have been a fan of both ever since. We can all thank Booker Noe & Makers for the advent of 'speciality bourbons'.
I have a bottle of this exact bourbon and every year on february 4th i drink a strong pour of it in memory of my mom who passed away february 4th 2014
Jim Beam is right off of I-65 (and I mean just a couple hundred yards off the exit) in Clearmont, Kentucky. It's not Jack Daniels cool (Beam doesn't have a factory tour), but it's worth a stop, especially if you've never smelled the inside of a barrel house. (The times I was there, you couldn't go inside a barrel house (unlike Jack Daniel's) but the entrance was open and you could lean inside and inhale, lol. They also had a tasting room, which was a plus!)
The first time I was there, they had these four airplane bottle sampler of Knob Creek, Bookers, Basil and Bakers. Preferred Knob and Bookers (which makes sense) and they became my go to bourbons. Maybe it's time to try Baker's again...
Picked up 1 of these Baker's last month. It's excellent
Thankyou for another great video guys and on my birthday.
One of my favorites to have around! Love what you all are doing ❤ cheers 🥃
Bought this bottle for my best buddy for his wedding last month! It's unreal for the price
I just picked up a bakers 7 today.
cheers 🥃
I just bought that same bottle here in Tennessee, a store pick for 50 bucks. Have a head cold so haven't tasted it yet.
Love Bakers, not easy to get in my area though. It's really one of my favorite bourbons.
I also got a 8yr. 10mo. I love it!
Rex needs a podcast where he just rants endlessly about random things. I would listen to it religiously 😂
Mostly joking, slightly honest question/suggestion.
Why don't you guys have a "FILMING" flashing neon sign (or more funny call back, a lazily drawn cardboard sign) on the vault door?
I always have a 8+ year Bakers 7 on my bar. I feel like it's slept on for sure.
they definitely should have variation in proof. That would make for a virtually limitless amount of difference between barrels
Just bought it last weekend
Any chance for a four roses single vs. Knob Creek single vs bakers?
Edit: maybe as a sequel to the "best old fashioned" series.
Come on, Jim Beam. Baker's, Booker's, and ...? It's crying out for a Candlestick Maker's. (Just picked up Baker's 13. Looking forward to it.)
This reminds me of old forester 1920 however the old forester 1920 did a little something something more on my tongue. Still a great pour at about the same cost.
A test comparison may be in order.
What is the appeal of single barrel releases? If a barrel is good for around 300 bottles, even if you find that bottle from a barrel that just blows you away, the chances of finding it again are slim. Is it the thrill of the hunt? Is it finding a release that fits your taste and then exploring all the variations of it?
I can't speak for everyone, but for me it's about trying something new and potentially unique. Whether you can get it again is sort of beside the point.
The experience, like anything else in life. Adventure and memories.
The bar I work at has bakers 7. Never seen anyone order it so I assumed it was kinda bad. I wonder if no one orders it cause of the "7" in the name. People compare it to seagrams 7, which is kinda cheap and not great
Just went threw a Bottle of Bakers. Love it! At 60 🦌 a bottle can't say I'd buy it again. 40🦌 I'd keep one on my bar at all times. Just too many way better ones out there at that price point.
Why did you throw it?😅
Thanks for the review 🥃
Have a bottle sitting on the shelf waiting to be cracked, here in NH it went for $60 at out state stores.
Same here in NC. At $60, I think it's a massive bargain. One of my favorite bourbons.
This Baker's is like a hidden gem.
BTW, is Rex’s hair a “spectacle moment”?
Appreciate the review.
GOOD MORNING YOU MB'S... 🥃
I did not fulfill Dry-week... was celebrating good news from oncologist... you understand.
3:08 if you don’t want people to enter while you’re recording videos just put a sign in the door that states “DO NOT ENTER! REX FARTED IN THE VAULT!”
Is Emma back at the whiskey tribe?
It’s interesting to frame Baker’s as “The Beam version of Blanton’s” lol. That would probably get more people in the door for it
At Chip & Joanna's place??? Tactical name drop 🙂
Does Rex realize he finds "black tea" on 90% of these tastings?
Makes sense, black tea has an earthy flavor
I get black tea a lot from anything with rye as an ingredient so it makes sense.
I can see earthiness and whiskey going hand in hand. I guess I simply don't experience the note as often as he does. Lol
@@timkumpf8727 That is one of the things he mentions fairly often; Are you truly tasting something when someone suggests it? Regardless, as long as you enjoy it, it doesn't really matter what you can taste 😁
There's like a black tea flavor in this...
George Costanza - "I don't want to be remembered"
1st class I had with Richard Patterson he yeeted a King Alexander over the shoulder and the whole room gasped at once, lol. But he's awesome, and I learned a TON at his class, drank some amazing Dalmore, and in general had a great time at the tasting. One of the most memorable lunch & learn meetings I ever attended when I was still selling booze. Also, Richard is just a fun guy...really charismatic, but totally NOT a snob of any kind. He was very kind and friendly.
I love Baker's!🥃😋
How do you live in texas and not know HteaO? isnt it texas based?
Yup
I caught a lot of shit for liking this bottle. Glad you cats like it as well.😊
no water in this one?
THE COSMIC BUNGHOLE IS THE GREATEST SPECTACLE THAT HAS EVER GRACED THE INTERWEB! HE HAS BEEN EXILED TO THE HINTERLANDS FOR NIGH ON 3 YEARS, YET THE TRUE DISCIPLES RETURN TO THE VAULT EVERY OTHER DAY, ATHIRST FOR THE SCANTEST WHISPER OF HIS KNOWLEDGE!
You're missing an opportunity here.
You two should sit in big leather chairs and let new graduates come in during filming, then command them to analyze whatever the current bottle is, only to tell them that they're wrong.
Yessss
This shit is very good..... heaven on the tongue...
I saw some videos with Richard Patterson, the chucking of whisky is kind of a thing that fits his personality. I don't find it disturbing at all, it's fun to watch his enthusiasm🥃
😁🙌🏻
If any theists out there would like to learn how to metaphorically jump through logic defying hoops, this caller just "put on a clinic". He demonstrated the skill "hoop jumping".
I'm in NYC and we have one of the highest price on whiskies in the country is not THE highest. A bottle that's worth $20-30 in the west coast will be sold for at least $50-60 here.
You know that with Bookers and Bakers they need a Candlestick Makers… IMO
Patrick… je ne sais quoi 🤣
I love burbon 🥃!
Nope, nope tell everyone it’s terrible. Ship it all south to Mississippi. 😂😂😂

Day 37 or some such nonsense of asking for a Magnificent Bastard trash can shot cam!
I had Baker's a few years back alongside Bookers and the Backer's was the clear winner. I bought a bottle of the newer Backer's and it was one of the worst bottles of bourbon I have had in a while. Pure metallic trash. I guess I got the rare bad bottle.
Rex looks like Peter Zeihan, if he got into whiskey instead of geopolitics.
How dare you make me completely rethink Richards Patterson and all of his flamboyance. How dare you make me be more opened minded and maybe allow people to enjoy whiskey "incorrectly". How dare you, sirs.
.

Neither got peanut? Cause Baker's 7 always has peanut.
I get a LOT more peanut on the bottle I’m working on now than I did the previous two (yes, I really like Baker’s). It’s a 7 year, 10 month, and the others were a year older. Could just be barrel variation and not age, I suppose, but the peanut is there for me on both.
