I've been listening to boygenius relentlessly and enjoying the chemistry between those 3 women and their band members when they play live, enjoying every performance on youtube immensely. This is the first Phoebe solo concert I've watched. There's something really special about her. Vulnerability? Honesty? Intelligence? Passion? All of it. I've just become a devoted fan. Phoebe, I hope you find your joy often and that it lasts a little longer each time.
I went to her concert, pretty sure it was the exact same show only different city, in Toronto. I went in not really knowing her music, expected to sit on a nearby hill and watch the show from afar, but it ended up being a live music experience unlike any I have seen. I have never described a performance as “hypnotic” before, and while this recorded version cannot quite capture how it felt to witness it, its still amazing to be able to revisit it like this and remember.

I know this is a controversial statement but I would lose my mind if I went to a concert and had to listen to the crowd scream every song. Sure, there are moments and songs in every band's setlist where that makes sense and it's great. But it was a bit much here. Maybe the mic picked up too much of it and it wasn't as bad in person, but when Phoebe sings a really emotional song and you hear thousands of girls screaming over her during even the quietest parts, that just defeats the purpose of it for me.

Gotta say, it sucks going to a show and everyone is just screaming the lyrics around you. Call me a debby downer, but I don't get this at all. I think it's possible to be having a strong emotional reaction and experience to seeing an artist you love, I do every time I see a show of someone I love, but I don't know why screaming the lyrics so no one can easily hear the actual artist is everyone's go to.
Those girls singing were some of the worst crowd performances I’ve ever heard and I’ve been to like 500 hardcore punk shows but the vibes made the show

I feel sorry for bros like you, I’m nearly 40 I’ve been in very violent bands where I’ve had my teeth smashed out and suffered a lot of head and facial trauma I’ve lived and breathed macho bullshit and anti establishment counter culture music but never once was I closed to emotion or stunted so much that I wouldn’t feel or recognise genius and or beauty. There’s power in the written word and dumb dumbs that can’t read will never see it and unlikely to be able to open their hearts and hear it even if beauty is screaming at them point blank. I honestly hope you change and in a few years can come back to this or something similar with the skills to tackle the subject. Godspeed
