What is it about the capo on the 2nd fret on songs? So many songs use that!

Just changes the key of the song, and makes chords easier to fret! Also capo on 2 produces a very bright popular sound a lot of the time👍🏼

Only if you want that similar sound, you can play it without one, you’ll just be in the key of E and get a lower tone!
