This is the first year I bought the pro instead of the pro max and I’m seeing a lot of people in the comments saying the same thing. I would say the only reason I switched to the pro is because they got slightly bigger than last year and the feature set is the same between the pro and pro max.
I absolutely adore my iPhone 16 Pro Max, I got the 1TB model in desert titanium and it looks absolutely gorgeous, I have zero regrets upgrading from my 14 pro Max.
I got the 6.3” model. It feels perfect in my hand, while maximizing the screen size in that comfort zone. I hate fumbling around with large phones. The Max is too big for a phone and too small for a tablet.
I agree! I have gone with the pro max in the past. But I am way past the cumbersome size and price. My next phone will be the pro (or another smaller version)
I went with the 16PM but I may return it next week for the 16P. I love having 3-4hr more battery life but the size/weight in the pocket isn’t the best.
I carry two iPhones for various reasons. Have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and on Friday launch day purchased an iPhone 16 Pro black 256g. Yesterday which was Saturday although loved the feel of the 16 Pro swapped it for a for a 16 Max Desert Sand 512g because that was what they had left in stock except for the Natural Titanium but thought I would do something different. At first didn’t know if I liked the color much but getting used to it. For the very reasons you mentioned is why I swapped especially the battery life. The 16 Pro seemed to lose charge fast about mid day. Thanks for the video.
Absolutely absurd people pick the Max because of battery. Power is everywhere and these phones charge faster and faster. Throw it on the charger while making dinner and you have most of the charge back. If you choose it bc you want the larger screen, then fine - but because of battery is absurd.
My iPhone 12 can’t hold a charge for 2 hours. I’m on a horrible countdown every time I leave my house. This has left me traumatized and I literally just want the biggest battery I can get. (Yes I know power banks exist and I use them but the trauma remains)
People are concerned about the amount of recharge cycles that small ones have to go through and losing charge way earlier in the long run. For example if a Pro needs to charge midday and Pro Max doesn’t need charging for two days then Pro Max will have better overall battery health 3 years down the road in comparison to a Pro. It may become annoying for most of 20% of the capacity is lost 2 years in of the Pro and needing to recharge constantly because of battery anxiety
I have the 14 pro max and love the size. I don't have small hands so I can reach around the phone with no issues. I also have the S24 Ultra and that phone is the limit to how far I want a big phone. Even for me that phone is a little bit difficult to reach around the phone one handed, but I love that phone as well and have gotten used to it. I wear glasses so a bigger screen is always welcomed. I will never switch to a smaller phone. I am going to upgrade to the 16 pro max since I need more storage anyways.
Glad someone has addressed the size difference in detail. Also tired of the bigger phones and downsizing from a Pro Max to the 16 Pro. I have big hands and reaching around on the Pro Max just takes too much effort 😂. Looking forward to my Pro and just something more manageable and comfortable I can use with one hand.
I went pro over max this year due to the fact that the camera got all the upgrades unlike past models. The display is also 6.3 so it’s right in the middle and the battery got slightly bigger.
Update: started the morning at 92% ending the night at 52%. That was with watching a twitch stream with data for 30 min, social media use throughout the day and Spotify listening throughout work. So far, I’m impressed
Another thing to consider is that since the Pro has a smaller battery, it will through more charging cycles in the same amount of time with all else (usage, etc) being constant... and with more charging cycles, battery degradation will be faster... so if you intend to keep the phone for long term, you'll benefit from the larger battery of the Pro Max. I went with the PM btw.
After having the Pro Max the last 5 iPhones (the 11, 12, 13 ,14 and 15) I went with the 16 Pro for the better form factor and I LOVE it! I can't see going back to a Max ever. I just got so tired of the monster phone and I have fairly large hands. Yes the battery life is not as good but hell everywhere you go these days you can charge if needed so thats not really an issue.
I’m tempted to return my iPhone 16 Pro Max. The display is nice when laying in bed but it’s so big and heavy that my shorts sag with it in the pocket. Like you said, it’s also impossible to type one handed or reach much of the display with one hand. I’ll handle the regular Pro next week in-store to see if I prefer it.
Some people forget that they buy a phone in the first place. They look how gorgeous max version is and forget how cumbersome it will be in their daily lives.
I bought the 16 Pro! I normally buy Pro Max, but I haven’t upgraded since 14 Pro Max. My 14 was big enough and I couldn’t imagine going any bigger. I like the way the 16 Pro feels. Yes the extended battery life would be clutch, BUT the inconvenience of that big phone fitting into my suit pocket, is just a nuisance per say.
This time I got a 16 Pro Max, it is my first time getting a Max. I was worried because I have pretty small hands but I am happy and love the battery life. My 14Pro needed to be charged a lot
Does it hurt your hand? I have largish hands for a woman but the regular 11 made my hand ache for the first couple of months that I had it- and it still will start to hurt if I’m using my phone one handed for too long.
Bigger device, bigger battery…soooo, just get the upcoming iPad Mini, cell-enabled? Honestly even the Pro is bigger than I’d like, so there’s no way ever I’d get a Pro Max!
You are without a doubt my favorite Tek channel. I love your balance of knowledge and humor, and that you’re an absolute goofball just like me. Keep it up man
This was suppose to be my Max year but 6.9 hit that phone size threshold for me, 6.3 it is 👍. The problem lies with no 45 watt charging or fast charge. USB C and still no 45 watt charging Apple 😩.
I have just cancelled my preordered 16 Pro after 10days. I am so confused which one to pick 16P or 16PM. I have been using 12 PM for all these years and bored and fed up with its size. I like compact phones with wider screens with moderate height. But 16P is taller and less wider and 16PM is wider but too tall to handle. Any advice is highly appreciated. Thanks.
To me, Heavy phone doesn't mean premium it just means heavy. I'm wrestling with the lightness and bigger screen of the 16 Plus and the iPhone 16 Pro. Always go with the Pro Max's but I definitely don't want a 6.9" screen and getting burned out on big heavy phones
I just can’t get behind the size of the Pro Max and sacrificing comfort for a phone that last long doesn’t seem worth it. It’s unfortunate that the regular Pro always gets tossed aside when it comes to the battery conversation. Not the worst by any means but certainly not the best
I went with the 16 Pro from the 13 Pro Max it was already feeling cumbersome to me even though it was a great phone no regrets this is the perfect size I think if in 4 years they go to 6.5 on the Pro that would be a great size as well I think I will stick with this phone until then as well.
Easily small. Same screen res. Same cameras. Battery life is better than my old 13pm and I don’t have to “shimmy” or carry around a remote sized phone.
I had preordered the iPhone 16 Pro in Natural Titanium, 1TB and filmed my unboxing on my channel! I'm in love with it! I've always got the max for years and years but the 16 pro feels so much better in my hands and it's comfortable to use as i use my phone for my day job and to manage my businesses. Highly recommend the 16 pro!!!!
I bought a pro when I had a job that required me to carry it around in my pocket.. but I hated the small size. Now I can set my phone down at work and the max is awesome. Loving the gold color.
Can't help feeling that the Max looks wrong. The Pro (non max) is clearly the better proportioned device from an aesthetic perspective. The camera cluster doesn't look lost like in the Max's vast expanse of flatness somehow. Also while an ipad looks fine, this Max just feels too slab-like. Like it's unsubtle. Almost crass. Like someone just dragged their mouse in Illustrator and made a bigger rectangle and left it there.
I’m so use to the bigger display. I have always gotten the larger phone since iPhone started making them, and now it feels weird to hold smaller phones. Since it’s all I’ve used for the past 8 plus years. I’ve found ways that make holding bigger phones comfortable with one hand.
After having the 15 Pro for a year I’m getting the 16 Pro Max. Most days I’m recharging mid day via usbc or battery pack. I can count the days on one hand that it made it through a day
Since trading in my 3 years old 13PM, I picked 16P but haven't unboxed yet😂 One of my family members just promised me to swap 16P for 13PM if I don't like 6.3" size 😊
I agree about the battery life on the 16pm it's really great, mine was charged to 100% yesterday morning at 6:40AM and then I used it during the day for music, took some photos, watched some streaming on twitch, instagram for about 2 hours, and now we are at the next day, the time is 5PM and the battery is still at 42%. I think this question will vary based on one’s experience, I am still in the undecided category, but I did buy a new phone, to get the best updates… we will have to see if I like the phone, once it gets to me, in the next few weeks…. But I will probably, like the phone… I mean I think if a phone as a mobile device I can bring with me, to watch movies and other little things like that…
Black titanium 1tb pro max. I have owned every iPhone and this is my first black iPhone since the xs max and boy did I pick a great year for a black phone. This one is slick.
I’ve always used the Pro’s starting with the 14 then 15 series. I was highly disappointed in the battery life of both and decided to go with the Pro Max this year. I sacrificed comfortability (in hand) for peace of mind. I have to admit, so far I am jaw dropped how the battery is on the Pro Max! Not only that, but the extra screen size helps me text and the viewing experience is wonderful compared to the Pro. I held my friend’s 16 Pro and didn’t really feel there was a big difference in size. I’m content with my choice, I’ll just have to make sure I wear a belt when I put it in my pants pocket so my pants don’t fall dowb. 😂
I’m thinking IPhone Plus to upgrade to from 11ProMax … both Pro Max and Plus have a 4600 battery and I don’t need extra camera, 120 Hz for $400 more . 11 Pro Max had a 3969 battery and I could get 16 to 18 hours out of it . Screen size and battery is more important to me , hopefully they will bring back the 6.5 screen size with the smaller bezels of 16 back at some point it’s the perfect size bigger phone .
Not sure if you said the Apple was disengenuous in saying the iPhone 16 is the first iPhone built for Apple intelligence. Technically it’s true the iPhone 16 was built for AI. AND The iPhone 15 pro models were the first pro iPhones built for Apple Intelligence. ALSO The iPhone 17s will be the first iPhones that can run all Apple Intelligence on Release/Day 0.
This is where Apple is being a little disingenuous with its marketing. The company claims the iPhone 16 is the first model “built from the ground up for Apple Intelligence.” The reality is that the processor and other hardware in the new iPhones isn’t meaningfully better for AI. The key factor is having 8 gigabytes of memory, the minimum required to run Apple Intelligence."
Holding a 250 gram mass, excluding the sheath, in your palm for 4-5 hours a day for at least a year will damage your muscular system after a while. As a former pro max user, my choice was pro.
Lucky for me I enjoy both the size and the battery life of the pro max. Just too used to big screens at this point to go back. And the pro is ALSO a two handed phone for some of us.
Just bought iPhone 16 pro … immediately I see issue with video .. when moving from 0.5 ultra wide to 1X the video lens immediately switches with a very very noticeable.. I have seen several other iPhones including my old 11, wife’s 14 … also some friends’ iPhones 15 pro models … none of them have any flickering shift of 0.5 video when zoomed into regular 1X … this is simply so frustrating and unacceptable… I am totally perplexed… pls help if anyone else have experienced this or knows a solution … thanks so much in advance !!
Watching this on my iPhone 16 pro max. Not gonna lie, the battery is amazing I can charge it to 100% at 5pm one day and won’t need to start charging it again until the next day around midnight. 33/35hours is pretty accurate
I’m actually a little surprised by my 16 pro battery life; it seems worse than my 14 pro max even 2 years in. I figured it would at least be on par with it but in my use the 16 is blowing though my battery
It is ridiculous that Apple charges this much for bumps in storage. They should just have 2 models a 256GB and a 1 TB and the cost difference should only be $150 max. I usually buy a midsize storage option and always feel ripped off. Since the first iPhone in 2007 I have always bought an iPhone or two on release day but not this year.
I went from an 8 to a 13 Pro Max; it felt like a different product category. I’ll go to the 16 Pro, because the Max is awkwardly big. I’ll keep a small MagSafe battery around for crises. I’m probably going to scale back on storage as I’m using less than 200GB of my 1000GB storage so far. Pro 512. We’ll see it I have regrets.

But I will probably, like the phone… I mean I think if a phone as a mobile device I can bring with me, to watch movies and other little things like that…
I just upgraded from 14 pro max to 16 PM! Waiting on it, but two years apart could make a huge difference
Greg should get into Hollywood 😂😂😂
Yeah 😬
@@GregsGadgets for real 👌👌😹😹
i got the 16 Pro max gold 1TB Model with its Super large battery of 4,685 Mah no wondering it's the best battery ever I enjoyed the video
Loved your opening. Big Star Wars fan. You done good!1
Haha thanks
I recommend the smaller iPhone with a iPad Mini combo.
I have big hands and love big phones, 16PM is the best for those who have everything big😜😜
anyone know the avg rate of degradation on battery life ??? if pro is 8 hrs, it will go down to ???
Just take the battery health percentage and multiply it by the new battery life time.
i went with the 16 Pro. The smaller physical size without having to sacrifice 5x optical zoom is what won me over.
I purchased the iphone 16 Pro Max this past Thursday. Desert Titanium. Upgrading from the iphone 15 Pro Max
Black titanium 1tb pro max. I have owned every iPhone and this is my first black iPhone since the xs max and boy did I pick a great year for a black phone. This one is slick.
I switched from 13 pro to 16 pro max. I agree it’s not that comfortable to handle, but in the end I looove the bigger battery life
I got the regular pro This year mainly due to stock, and also the size. It just feels perfect using iOS on a smaller display. So far enjoying it.
Keeping my 15 ProMax not worth the upgrade at this time.
Haha love the intro Greg!!
Thanks lol
I left it out of the video, but yeah that's the worst part about the pro max is fitting it into your pants
@@GregsGadgets What case are you using btw?
Here in the UK 🇬🇧 we put them in our trouser pocket not our pants 🙂
Can you do 15 pro max vs 16 pro ? I’m concern about size of the 16pm and battery of the 16 pro
The battery difference with the pro doesn’t really effect me that much as I dont use my phone way too much like most people these days.
Went with the pro max for screen size. I work on music so having the extra real estate will make editing and whatnot sooooo muuuuuch better.
This is torture! im confused i loove the big pro max but i like the compact pro!
Me too!
Yep getting the pro max. Can’t wait for an all day battery life experience
Battery 🔋 wins every time especially when you don’t have to worry about charging at an event.
I got big handd and i rather hold the phone in my hands all day to show off my 16PM to peasants
Not sure if you said the Apple was disengenuous in saying the iPhone 16 is the first iPhone built for Apple intelligence.
Technically it’s true the iPhone 16 was built for AI.
AND
The iPhone 15 pro models were the first pro iPhones built for Apple Intelligence.
ALSO
The iPhone 17s will be the first iPhones that can run all Apple Intelligence on Release/Day 0.
It’s been 3days I’m still waiting for my 16PM
Last time I had a Max was basically the iPhone 6s Plus. Upgrading to a 16promax from a iPhone 13 Pro
Ngl Yu-Gi-Oh was a good show, especially season 1.
Holding a 250 gram mass, excluding the sheath, in your palm for 4-5 hours a day for at least a year will damage your muscular system after a while. As a former pro max user, my choice was pro.
Skipping the upgrade for the first time in ten years! Just not an exciting upgrade this year. I did get the 46mm natural titanium watch and love it!
I got the Pro max, coming from 13 pro, my main reason to get the PM was the battery and I really like the larger display
I was Samsung Note 1 user and ever since I haven’t used a large phone. I might go large this year specially due to battery. Let’s see.
In my old age I have to admit the pro max is useful for the car when using navigation apps.
