In today's clickbait, I'm announcing the most major minor change I could possibly make to the channel, and giving you a bit more insight into where my content is made.
This reminds me of buying my first 100 + dollar knife. It was a revelation realizing that I've moved past buying something because it accomplishes a task, to buying something because it looks and feels better than the thing that just does the task.
I picked up a Ferrum Forge knife from Massdrop. It was a frame lock with a grain and gold pattern on the presentation side that was named circuit board. That was the first time I spent over $100 on a knife because I like the looks. Thanks for the memory.
@@jayr526 mass drop was my gateway into better knives as well. Remember waiting over a year for my spyderco edura gold. Now I don't even know if mass drop still exists, really sad.
@@bobcrane812 They dropped the Mass. Or maybe they got their Mass kicked. I don't have to inside scoop. But they still exist as Drop. They deal in electronics as best as I can tell. I still get emails and most of it is pushing audio stuff. I have little interest in that. My PC and 20 year old CD player work just fine. I read something about them selling knives on Amazon, but I have not looked into that because their prices were getting to be equal or hier than other retailers. I got several of my early Bestechs from them. The Swordfish, the Paladin, and the Warwolf(?). Big D2 folders. I got in on the tail end of the good knife deals. I read about them on BladeForums and finally looked. Yes, it sad that they lost their edge.
I learned long ago that Big Jake was a guy not to disagree with very often. I also agree, having gotten my first 4 nice knives last year. and eyeballing more, of course.

I'm also a Shaboomer. Been watching for 6 years now. I made a reddit post 6 years ago asking for a recommendation between the 0450 and the Kizer Gemini. Nick personally commented on my post saying that he had just made a video on the Kizer Gemini and that I should definitely not count it out as everyone was saying ZT. Watched his video on both of those 2 knives and immediately subscribed. Been watching his videos ever since.

Ah man, I started watching recently and kinda fell in love with the channel due to your infectious enthusiasm towards knives. Little did I realise that you're this enthusiastic towards everything. I need more of this kind of positivity in my life, subscribed!

When I find something that I really like, I always go and buy another one, sometimes two. So many times in the past I have been disappointed that the original product is no longer available.
Discontinuation... happens all too often. I definitely find this problem with shirts and footwear (even some iconic brands who rarely change DO change things). And don't get me started on Trader Joe's that has discontinued some cherished food products!
Nick, this is actually more refined so it qualifies as an upgrade. I really dig it. It is more subtle, gradient of shadows comes in better. Next upgrade, the camera ? ;)

Been a Subscriber for quite a while but mostly I don’t see as my center vision is foggy due to my eye disease. To think of all the knives, watches, NutSac's and multi-tools that have graced the surface of that shelf liner. Kinda makes one teary eyed and nostalgic.
I dig the setup. My only suggestion would be possibly swapping out the piano bench for one of those "kneeling chairs" if you have any issues with your back.

I really enjoyed seeing your reviewing area and hearing the story of the desk mat. I was wondering if you would consider doing a review of the Petrified Fish Beluga. The brand is still a bit in limbo as far as domestic distributorship, but I think that is just a matter of time. You can get them on Amazon and places like Chicago Knife Works and White Mountain knives. I have absolutely no affiliation with any brand. I am just so impressed with the knife, and when you consider the price, it's gotta be one of the best things going right now. Thanks Nick.

Funny, I always thought that surface was some perforated shelf liner, some vinyl/polymer material. Definitely not leather, because of the texture/sheen. Well, nice to see you upgrade to the real thing, Nick! 😎😁 At least for the filming. I'd only lay it out when you intend to record, as a matter of protecting the surface. 😏
Loved this. Reminds me of when I realized I didn't have to change the oil on my car myself. The light bulb popped up and I said to myself: "Hey, I'm rich enough now I can pay someone else to do this!" I hope you get as much life out of your leather mat as the old one!

I don't know if I like this new boujee direction your channel is headed in. The old, school-bus vinyl background was like a delica, but I feel like you just moved into Stan Wilson custom territory and the lack of a stepping stone (a Holt Haptic, if you will) on the way there makes me uncomfortable.
You know you could sell scraps of the old shelf liner like holy relics, don't you? A fund-raiser bonus fragment of the one true background? It worked in the Middle Ages with saints' bones, the cross, various shrouds, etc.
I would demand a certificate of authenticity with my scrap. Anybody could say that they've got a piece of Saint Nick, but that piece of paper would clinch the deal. Ho ho ho.

I don’t handle change very well Nick. This is gonna be a rough adjustment period, with the whole uncanny valley effect I’m seeing here with the new background. It’s just different enough to make me feel like I’m in a barely divergent alternate reality or something. But I’ll do my best to cope ;-)

Harbor freight, and hunting shops have game cutting boards that are large as your desk top.
You should do a high tech background with high quality wood and carbon fiber inlays or carbon kevlar
