Come on Grief, tell us your tale
what did you lose, how did you fail
don’t hold back a thing, you’re no burden to me
tears of lightning and hail are just what you need
and when you’re through, take a deep breath
tell it again, ’til you finally rest
I won’t judge, I’ll witness your pain
compassion and strength are all that remain
I’m gonna love my darkness until he lets down his guard
Pull my (grief) by the hand, til he loses his charge
No more shutting you out, no more holding you in
I’m gonna love my darkness, until he gives in
Come on fear, take off your shoes
you don’t have to fight, you don’t have to choose
between building a wall and running away
you could be safe and still be brave
Come on Shame, don’t be so shy
we saved you a seat, right beside Pride
You’re one and the same, oh don’t you see
you’re all a part of me

Abbie Gardner is a fiery dobro player with an infectious smile. Whether performing solo or with Red Molly, her acclaimed tales of love and loss, both gritty and sweet, are propelled by her impeccable slide guitar playing. Solo performances feature truly unique use of the dobro as a solo instrument, bouncing between a solid rhythmic backbone and lead lines, all in support of her voice and songs. An award-winning songwriter, Abbie's solo tour highlights include Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Clearwater, VA Arts Festival, The Kate, The Spire and more. She did a formal showcase at the 2018 Folk Alliance Conference and has opened for Martina McBride and Hot Rize. No Depression says she displays “uncommon versatility” on her latest CD "Wishes on a Neon Sign" (released January 2018). The recording features 12 original songs and a co-write with Chris Stapleton. WFUV's John Platt raves, “she’s not only a first-rate Dobro player, but a songwriter to be reckoned with."
This song should be the National Mental Health Anthem. It's perfect.
This may sound like an odd idea but, your music and this song, in particular, would absolutely kill it on America's Got Talent. It's super emotional and powerful; you'll have the entire audience in tears. Even Simon! And... I seriously believe the whole world needs to hear this song.
I'm 100% certain you'd win. And even if you didn't, it would only open a thousand new opportunities up to you. It's win/win!
If I could, I'd go on the show, and when they ask me what I'm gonna do for them, or what's your talent, I'd be like "well, actually, I came here to play this woman's song because everyone in the world needs to hear it."
But, since I can't, that means you gotta. 🥰
aw this is the sweetest comment ever! Thank you! I never thought I was shiny or young enough for those shows, but maybe... Either way, your comment and the love behind it have made my day!
@@AbbieGardnerdobrosinger oh my goodness, you are DEFINITELY shiny and young enough! You're so beautiful! You have style, passion and authenticity! Authenticity is really important and they will definitely see that in you. And there is no age limit at all on the show, anyway. They've had every age from 3 to 93! Seriously, a 90 yr old woman was on there singing a song. They LOVED her! There was also a 75 or 80 yr old man who was doing stand up for the first time in his life and they gave him 4 yes's. And every level of experience. I see lots of people who are already established artists playing music for a living and they want to take their career to the next level. Or they've spent their whole life raising a family and now they want to chase their dream of being a singer or whatever. I truly think you should go for it! There's absolutely nothing to lose and like, a million dollars to gain! Even contestants that don't get enough yes's end up getting TONS of work from it. But, honestly, you are 100% golden buzzer quality. I'm not just gassing you up. I cried my head off when I heard this song, too. I've given many people the link to listen to it. In fact, that's why I'm here today because I needed to fetch the link to give it to this other amazing performer. She is musical but also does theater & comedy. She does videos of herself talking to all of her inner personalities like The Perfectionist and The Inner Child, The Procrastinator, Anxiety, etc... her name is Kara Morgan and her IG is @karaleemo . I think you'll really enjoy her work, too.
So, long story, short; don't sell yourself short, sister. You definitely deserve it. 🥰💕
Not "only" a good Dobro player but also a very good singer and cute as a button too 🌹
This song is everything. Thank you so much for gifting this to us all.
I have the CD but somehow missed this video! I am going to have start searching song titles, because I think I must be missing a lot more.
This is a masterpiece Abbie.
Wow, that’s moving Abby. Great video (UK)

aw Dewey you're the best!
Dear Abbie, thanks for the show Friday night in Albany, thanks for your autograph on the stolen set list, thanks for this song and for turning it loose in the world. Like I tried to say, you will never know how much good it’s done for people you will never see. I hope to see you again soon. Chris
thanks for reminding me, Christopher... sometimes you put these things out there and wonder. It means a lot to hear this. :)

Thanks Teresa! That means a lot. :)
thank you. I've been living this- in March my adopted little brother took his life; the 4th suicide close to me in 2 years, the stress caused my immune system to shut down. I am healing, but slowly.
Oh my, that is quite a lot. Take good care of yourself, my friend. Sending you lots of peace and love.
Your voice keeps getting better 🙂
I always loved you
