Thanks a lot for all of your videos, i bought the game last week on thursday, and dicovered your videos yesterday, you've been helping me a ton, please keep them coming! ♥
That's great to hear, welcome to the game. In the next day I'll be posting a video on earning your first million via bounty hunting so I'm working on some total beginner content too.
CMDR Exigeous That's awesome, through a lot of videos (very poorly made), a lot of websites and the help from the rats, I managed to make some millions from exploration, i have fully upgraded Cobra MK3. Right now I'm saving a bit more credits to get a ASP Explorer. Keep the good work Commander, your videos are very well made, thank you a lot for your content.
IF possible get an anaconda(or cutter if you have the rank). Conda and cutter has much cargospace and the cutter has extremely good shields and the condas are also very good when outfiten with prismtics. Then again, its not easy to survive a real player attack
I tried it out with my Cutter and it works pretty well. I would recommend not to chase your victim- just stand still, they seem to target your PP and will just hover and shoot their puny weapons. The most difficult part is to find find an appropiate system. I traveled through 2 or 3 agriculture anarchy systems and could interdict one type 6 with low temperature diamonds; this took me about 2 hours of searching :( But I won't give up.
Cosmo is still going to try,.... here is one example: Dead fly on windshield, to little jitter on the weapons, Station Slot to big, Lasers too much damage, Police does not scan 10 times before you dock, and his list of insane stupidities goes on.
For immobilising NPCs I've you've interdicted them, I'd recommend aiming for their thrusters. Once those hit 0%, they cannot do anything except shoot, which makes for an easy target. I've never seen an NPC repair the damage either, so it should work long enough for you to grab the goods.
While not a bad idea they actually can repair - they just usually don't, or rather don't do it too quickly. I find that it's a waste of time if you have an appropriately shield tanky ship, as you just let them blast away until they are empty then kill them and be done.
CMDR Exigeous This is true, but as you said in the video "it takes money to make money", and this tactic has served me very well in my cheaper ships (sepcifically, my Viper MkIV
CMDR Exigeous Also true - which is what I love about E:D - there's no real "wrong" way to do anything, it's all subjective. I mean, subjectively, the Orca is better suited to combat than passenger missions, which is an amazing sight to see if you do
Interesting tutorial : how to make money *without* grinding. Thanks Exigeous ! I hope FD will boost piracy earnings at some point. If you need ideas of videos, I'd like to see in more details the different ways to avoid scans when entering a station. I used to sneak in with silent running + FA OFF. Later on it seemed overkill and I just decided to enter the stations at high speed. And to day I do not even know what is the efficient way to do this.
IMHO the best way is to drop on the planet side, facing the slot. Make sure you're going 200ms+ and be at the ready to throw out your hardpoints. I've never ever gotten in trouble using that method and have done *a lot* of illegal stuff in game for 2+ years.
I'm a little late to the party but I've streamlined your Cobra build and made it my own. I've swapped that larger collection controller out for another 12 tons of cargo and went with a shield booster instead of a manifest scanner since the quantities are known past whether they have a mining laser or not. Not turning and tanking fire puts all the diamonds in a compact spot that you can actually just move right in to after four or five hatchbreakers so the single collector doesn't take as long.
Few additional tips - if it’s a big target, strip their shields and take out all but their weakest weapon, laser preferred (no ammo running out) This will keep your ships shields up longer. Alternatively, strip shields and take out fsd, then take out all weapons. Target will run for a bit, but can’t leave the system due to no fsd. They will give up several clicks out coming to a stop and you can follow and loot to your hearts content
Good advice save for my experience has been if you take out all their weapons to 0 they will reboot/repair and be at you again. Better to leave one weapon somewhat functional and take the tiny amount of hits from it.
CMDR Exigeous fair enough. I haven’t had a problem with that, but I also have only done this two or three times. One important note on stripping to one weapon, I found that mining laser doesn’t count as a weapon for that. Obvious, but an easy mistake to make (I certainly have)
Yep, piracy is awesome, and kinda of an endgame. It takes investment and skill. If you are into Powerplay with Archon Delane you get 20% reduction on bounties at Rank 2 and 100% reduction at Rank 5 in Archon space, system government doesn't matter.
I think they adjusted spawning for minerals in the last patch. Something about you'll find more diamonds in NPC holds near diamond hotspots. Idk how much it actually buffs NPC pirating though
Finally got around to trying this in my purpose bought Krait (I wanted to rip-off the Millennium Falcon a bit), and though I made some errors, it was a lot of fun, and the money was decent. I would have done it longer except my missus wanted to spend couple time this evening... :)
So I've had a few runs at this, and my first go everything went fine other than me going after people in wings sometimes, so sometimes things got a bit dangerous and I had to kill extra people. But then after going back out, my collector limpets just stopped picking things up and I was having to manually collect stuff after murdering my targets, at which point the 100t of diamonds had vanished down to about 3t available, which was still turning a profit... I've gone to make some more money to improve the Kestrel, but I don't know what happened with it. Was fun, however...
I don't know what I'm doing wrong with this. I've tried this so many times but maybe see a cargo ship with a mining laser maybe once a day in these systems. I've been flying around the exact system in this video for 4 hours tonight and have yet to see a single NPC in the entire system. There's 10 billion people in this system yet no NPCs. I've never had any luck with this type of piracy.
If you don't see any ships for a few minutes drop to normal space then jump to supercruise again - many times that'll reinstance things and you'll see ships. I had to do that a few times making the video - absurd that a system with 10 billion would have zero ships isn't it?
When extracting the cargo, hold still and don't turn. the AI will go to your back and sit there shooting, making it easier for collector limpets to collect cargo as it is all in one place
CMDR Exigeous dude that’s awesome, thanks for sharing! Even though I have a Cutter I’ve learned so much from your channel in the past week or two. Wish I found you earlier!
Great vid as usual Ex, thanks - had every aspect needed which other content providers have not quite managed in this area. As your vid is approaching 2 years, I wondered if any aspect of the gameplay had been nerfed ?
Yes and no - yes, it's been somewhat nerfed as not all ships you find with mining gear have LTD's like they used to. I tested this about a week ago and after grabbing 6 ships between two of us none had LTD's, but I have talked with a few players who have gotten ships with them. So you'll want a manifest scanner for sure just to be safe.
Tried today, found some cobras, keelback and a type 9. All were fitted for combat, no LTDs. Thought one of ya mates in FC beta 2 said piracy was back unless was piss take...🤣
CMDR Exigeous it was my first what I considered a big ship. Lots of lessons learned in that bird. Lots of nastolgia with that bird. My Cutter though, it's in the top 1% of trading vessels. Pirates hate it when I post that in chat.
I know this is 8months old, but it seems to still hold true. But why is there such a good chance for LTD in Agriculture? Surely extraction should have better chances. Also if you sit still, they will fly up and behind you and sit still. Roll over so your hatch points towards them and just get fed.
I went out for about an hour (minus jumping) mining painite. Made about 130 mil. Did the same with LT Diamonds. Only made about 100 mil. Painite is easier. And frankly, pirating is only for the fun.
Commander, your videos are so easy to watch. I wish I discovered you when I first started. I'm finally Duke rated so I'm building credits to earn the Cutter. Would you recommend this method for a credit/per hour in a Pirating Python? Thanks and as always o7!
Galactic Research Initiative - Thank you!! I'm not going the 'exploit' route as I plan to stream my hardwork until I achieve the the Cutter. Thanks. Find me on Mixer (same name as my RUclips)
GRI is right, skimmers are definitely the way to make max credits - but don't call it an exploit (I hate that term anyway) - as it takes hard work for sure. When you could kill them from the air it was one thing but now needing to do it in your SRV, landing far away, getting attacked constantly it is definitely not an exploit at all - I suggest at least giving it a try as I really do enjoy the challenge. That said this is definitely one of the higher paying "fully legit" ways to play.
CMDR Exigeous - Thanks. I'm going to give it a try, but I'm looking to make enough credits to buy & A-rate a Cutter now that I'm Duke. Current Balance: 56 million. Maybe I can find the easier + or ++ ones. I'm pretty good at SRV Combat so who knows. o7
Skimmer missions are back? I could never find any when they got taken out for the second time, or what seemed like the second time as all my missions were taken out of my contract log, and nothing was on the mission board as well.
Just checking if I researched it correctly, missions & roles that're generally illegal, usually yield more credits than their legal counterparts, but are more risky?
You'd think that wouldn't you - but no, there really isn't any logic like this. Look at my video on megaship piracy to see, it pays nothing and is very difficult and illegal.
Hi Ex, trying to get into NPC pirating. Watched all wiggybee’s vids. Really struggling to find the right system credentials in eddb that spawn LTD-spawning minors. Any ideas?
A very nice little earner!!! I don't think there's anything making this sort of wedge after Frontiers nerf hammer has come down hard again!!! Plus this looks like fun, all the other gold rushes have been a tad boring o7 Commander!!!
This may be a great way to boost your friends :D if you've got money and don't mind, you could get your boor newbie friends to come along in a hauler of some kind to load up on diamonds. Just a thought
Yes and no - yes, it still works but the odds on getting a ship with LTDs is much lower where it used to be guaranteed. I also wouldn't call this "combat" as you're really just tanking fire while using hatch breakers and collectors but if you do find a target with a lot of LTDs it can pay very very well.
thank you for your tutorials my friend. I need to watch slowly the videos becouse I know a little english. and i want to ask a one question: Can you do a tutorial to increase the rank of explorer? Thank you, your videos have helped me a lot.
Sorry, I do talk fast don't I? I've been considering adding subtitles that could then be translated, would that help you? As for exploration I sorta already have - check out my video on the Road to Riches, it's a great way to earn credits and rank efficiently using exploration.
YARRRRR! how to reliably kill points defense on different types of ships? pack hounds with super penetrator work only sometime. cause i saw a type 9 with 120 tons of gold and 75 tons of tritium in an icey ring and if thats not tingeling your little pirate i cant help ya! YARRRRR
So...if the system is anarchy, could I just blow the cargo ship up? I am thinking about selling my Bounty Hunting Krait to start getting into outcast. I figure I should be able to make enough money to buy it back pretty quickly, and I can transfer over most, if not all, engineered modules. (The exception being a KWS, as it would be irrelevant)
I started the game just prior to 3.0.3. I have no engineer experience. But, I have unlocked Felicity. Could you make a video detailing what materials are needed and how to collect them for Felicity to upgrade an FSD (ignoring the rep part). I think this could give new commanders an idea of what it looks like to gather these materials in a relatable form as she is usually the first one to unlock as well as the first thing new players will engineer.
Already on the list - I reset my alt-account recently so I could make some content for beginners and just finished a video on making your first million (will post soon). Next up will be Felicity, so sometime in the next week or so, I'll bump it up on the schedule for you.
Not yet but that's coming - just have so much on the list I've been bouncing around and now hitting the new stuff for 3.1 - but it's coming, I promise.
Well, sometimes at 0% they will explode and at Novice and higher rank they can/will reboot to repair it. I find it easier, if you have a ship powerful enough, to just tank fire from them.
Yep that happened to me the other day, got a type 7 power plant to 0% and still flew around shooting like nothing. I'll try to go for the boosters instead
For this piracy probably a Krait as I just personally hate the Python. That said both can work - but this is a case of the bigger the better so the Conda/Cutter/Vette are probably best. For PvP piracy I definitely like small or maybe medium, the Cobra 3 is my personal favorite there.
Does anyone know where I can go to find some ships that have mining lasers? I don’t seem to be having any luck in the system I’m in. I’ve gone to 4 different systems but sadly no luck. It might just be my luck or I’m not looking in the right place.
Doesn't work. I've tried flying around for literal hours dropping in and out of supercruise and changing game modes and have only ever found 1 ship that even had a mining laser attached.
What systems are you using as just because you've had bad luck doesn't in any way mean it "doesn't work". Remember Elite is HIGHLY variable and the spawn rate from one system to another, and one night to another can be dramatic.
CMDR Exigeous You're right. I was having a stroke of bad luck with the first 2 systems. First day I tried it and had no luck for an hour. Second day I flew around for another hour the first couple systems. ( for some reason it was not spawning any vessels with mining lasers ) But I eventually found a system that is literally the polar opposite and crawling with ships loaded with diamonds.. wtf.. lol I'll never understand how the game renders spawns. Shouldn't of been so quick to discredit this. Great video and thanks for the upload!
No worries buddy, just glad you did eventually find them as yeah, the instancing and spawning is really frustrating. Just remember this for the future when you find something "not working" that it's likely due to that variability and nothing more. I do my best to keep on top of things so if they change/break/get nerfed I'll be sure to update the title and thumbnail so people aren't wasting their time.
Sorry, when I saw the comment in the dashboard I didn't see which video it was for. Just model it after the Python build, for weapons do a huge and 2 medium multicannons, then the seekers and you should be set.
What I have always heard is Chaff does not break the scan if the scan is already in progress but it does stop you them from starting a scan. No idea how true this is but it seems to work for me when I'm hauling around criminals. I deploy my chaff about 5k out and just cruise through the slot, never been scanned once doing this
Honestly I think you're just getting lucky as I've never heard nor read that - either way using hardpoints absolutely breaks a scan and as such is the most reliable way to defeat one if you hear it. Also moving at 200 ms+ is another great tactic as they can't scan you at that speed.
Sure, you absolutely could. It's not a great shield tank though so you'd likely take some hull and a little module damage but that's not a big deal. You just need the module space and it has it, leave the fighter at home however.
No, not really - however there is a significant change in that the NPC ships don't stop if you shoot out their power plant. You can still sit and wait for them to come to you, as they will fly away then come back and attack, then fly away. But sometimes now they will spam mines at you (just annoying) so the best method is to take out their drives with missiles then do your best to get in front of them while they drift, trying to stop them physically with your ship - all without killing them. If you can at least slow them greatly and get a T7 or T9 you'll be rewarded with hundreds of tons of LTDs.
I find it incredibly slow and unreliable to find the right NPCs in the systems that meet all the requirements. Making what can be an entertaining gameplay loop become 1-2hours of doing nothing but waiting/resetting.
Well first I'd like to under promise and over deliver - and second show me a video where you're averaging 60M/hr including jumping, waiting, landing, etc.
Just because you didn't find any NPCs with diamonds in one session means it doesn't work? Well then you're going to be sadly disappointed with the vast majority of Elite as you play more. While yes, this can be variable it absolutely 100% "works" as I do this rather often. How many systems did you hit? How long did you hunt? I've probably spent 50+ hours doing this over the last year or so and sure, sometimes my haul is less and others it's more - but doesn't work? Uh, riiiiiiiiiiight….
I love most of your videos but every time you do this fast forward while your outfitting your ship, makes me dizzy. Literally. I'm not sure what you think it adds. It goes by so fast, its not useful to any viewers any way so why? I think you'd be better off just having normal video of game play, maybe not even related to what a particular video is about, while you do your intros. Something pretty, in-game, while you do your intro.
Open up a browser, access the Frontier website, search the database for... Is this a joke? Its supposed to be a game, not a job. Imagine if you had to jump hoops like this to play GTA? ED is a very poorly designed game.
Love how concise your videos are. Great job!
Thanks! Another great tutorial, looking forward to trying this out. Can’t quite afford a python yet but this should be a fun way to fix that
Thanks a lot for all of your videos, i bought the game last week on thursday, and dicovered your videos yesterday, you've been helping me a ton, please keep them coming! ♥

Yeah... I got popped by one of these guys last night with in a Keelback full of void opals... Was not a happy commander. I lost about 40 million.

Pro tip: taking out their drives with missiles only sends them out into deep space at 300m/s.

Cosmo is going to post a bug report soon, boys; watch out for it on the forums.
This has been in the game just like this for years, it's not going anywhere ;-)
Cosmo is still going to try,.... here is one example: Dead fly on windshield, to little jitter on the weapons, Station Slot to big, Lasers too much damage, Police does not scan 10 times before you dock, and his list of insane stupidities goes on.

Another "feature" that makes no sense given that chaff / ECM does nothing to affect scanning >.
A heat sink can help break the scan too, dropping the ship temp to 0%
ethan holloway Such big ships like Conda or Cutter still will be scannable from distances less than 1.5km even at 0 deg
Amazing channel. Time to go ARRRRR
Great vid as usual Ex, thanks - had every aspect needed which other content providers have not quite managed in this area. As your vid is approaching 2 years, I wondered if any aspect of the gameplay had been nerfed ?

Is it possible to instead just kill the local friendly npc and collect loot from the wreckage?
looking back at money making pre-mining buffs is quite interesting and sad at the same time
Well, I’ve got news from the future.
Hey I was curious to know what your cobra build is? The link is not working

Okay, thx. Love the vids by the way!
thank you for your tutorials my friend. I need to watch slowly the videos becouse I know a little english. and i want to ask a one question:
Can you do a tutorial to increase the rank of explorer? Thank you, your videos have helped me a lot.
Sorry, I do talk fast don't I? I've been considering adding subtitles that could then be translated, would that help you? As for exploration I sorta already have - check out my video on the Road to Riches, it's a great way to earn credits and rank efficiently using exploration.
CMDR Exigeous I dont speak english too, but you are one of the few RUclipsrs I understand 100% what you say, you speak very clear.
updated pvp piracy guide pleeaaase
pirating really needs a buff..
YARRRRR! how to reliably kill points defense on different types of ships? pack hounds with super penetrator work only sometime.
cause i saw a type 9 with 120 tons of gold and 75 tons of tritium in an icey ring and if thats not tingeling your little pirate i cant help ya! YARRRRR
Fab video, many thanks. How do you know when to fire off another hatch breaker?
Once the hatch closes and you've picked up all the booty.
Two dollars to thirty million per hour! I'd be the one that only gets $2
Yep, you 100% can. As soon as they are empty I just blow them up so they'll stop bothering me while I scoop everything up
Does this still work as of May 2020?
Yo ho, yo ho the pirates life for me!
what about whit a type-9
Any word on if this still works these days?
Thanks!
piracy is on my bucket list.
Try PvP piracy sometime, you'll never go back ;-)
Do you have any videos on PvP piracy? With things like tips and tricks or different weapons/engineer effects.
Not yet but that's coming - just have so much on the list I've been bouncing around and now hitting the new stuff for 3.1 - but it's coming, I promise.
ok thank you. i will wait for it ;)
Anyone know the code for the Color UI he has?
Power plant 0% bug still a thing? I gave up my hopes of piracy when it got bugged, but you make it still seem so easy.
Well, sometimes at 0% they will explode and at Novice and higher rank they can/will reboot to repair it. I find it easier, if you have a ship powerful enough, to just tank fire from them.
CMDR Exigeous What i mean is that shooting out the powerplant doesn't work anymore, they don't disable the ship, npc still flies at full power.
Yep that happened to me the other day, got a type 7 power plant to 0% and still flew around shooting like nothing. I'll try to go for the boosters instead
you can disable fsd, then weapons. the npc will surrender...
really good video, have to try this some day 😃🙋
What Ship would you recommend more for pirating? A Python or a Krait Mk II? And thank you for your great videos.
For this piracy probably a Krait as I just personally hate the Python. That said both can work - but this is a case of the bigger the better so the Conda/Cutter/Vette are probably best. For PvP piracy I definitely like small or maybe medium, the Cobra 3 is my personal favorite there.
I just saw your "PvP: Cobra Defeats Cutter" video. I will definitely build me a Cobra like yours and try some PvP.
Oh how I love the Cobra - and specifically the mine launcher. The most misunderstood weapon in all of Elite.
Does anyone know where I can go to find some ships that have mining lasers? I don’t seem to be having any luck in the system I’m in. I’ve gone to 4 different systems but sadly no luck. It might just be my luck or I’m not looking in the right place.
Are you looking in populated Agriculture systems?
CMDR Exigeous Yes I am. I am currrently in a system called Mehurs. I’m going to a system called HR 7294 to see if they have anything
Yeah, sadly like many things in Elite this can be highly random - some times I've made $30M in an hour, some times it's like $5M (in my Cutter)
Oh ok. I'm going to keep looking around to see if I get lucky. Thanks for the help!
For some strange reason I am now finding that almost every ship I find carrys low temp diamonds. Thanks for the tutorial!
huh..this looks fun. Wheres my krait
It really is, for NPC stuff I really enjoy it.
That 53 mil military composite really make a difference?
It depends - if you lose your shields yes, absolutely.
I have found an agricultural anarchy system with a population of 3.5 billion and has a station buying low temperature diamonds for 291k! I'm rich!
Any good pirating builds for the FDL?
PvE or PvP?
I meant a FLD build to pirate low temp diamond
Sorry, when I saw the comment in the dashboard I didn't see which video it was for. Just model it after the Python build, for weapons do a huge and 2 medium multicannons, then the seekers and you should be set.
CMDR Exigeous thanks!
Any chance you can share your HUD colour config?
Absolutely NOT!

Enjoy
Thanks mate!
I kinda want to interdict mining players and offer them escort for a few tons of diamond
You TOTALLY should - in fact that's what I'm going to be doing on stream tomorrow. Well I'll start with NPCs and then switch to players most likely.
@@Exigeous do you get wanted for interdictions?
@@jchoneandonly Nope, you get a fine - you only get wanted for firing at them
@@Exigeous hmmm. That could be fun.
chaff launchers break scans too but only for 20 seconds.
I am 99.9% positive this is incorrect. Chaff does nothing to scanners, it only scrambles gimbaled weapons.
TheRichardschris so i used to think until one day i got scanned.
Would you use a gunship for this?
Sure, you absolutely could. It's not a great shield tank though so you'd likely take some hull and a little module damage but that's not a big deal. You just need the module space and it has it, leave the fighter at home however.
heatsink is the best method to avoid scanning...
Was this nerfed in last April update?
No, not really - however there is a significant change in that the NPC ships don't stop if you shoot out their power plant. You can still sit and wait for them to come to you, as they will fly away then come back and attack, then fly away. But sometimes now they will spam mines at you (just annoying) so the best method is to take out their drives with missiles then do your best to get in front of them while they drift, trying to stop them physically with your ship - all without killing them. If you can at least slow them greatly and get a T7 or T9 you'll be rewarded with hundreds of tons of LTDs.
@@Exigeous Did only couple low black market deals (to unlock engineer) - how big is fine if they scan you with stolen LTDs?
I find it incredibly slow and unreliable to find the right NPCs in the systems that meet all the requirements. Making what can be an entertaining gameplay loop become 1-2hours of doing nothing but waiting/resetting.
You don’t need a manifest scanner, just look for mining lasers and refinery
True, I just like using one to know how much cargo they have.
I got my elite trade rank with this method.. full cutter sold for 25million at the time..
Well done *earning* that rank rather than doing some bullshit grind - o7 commander!
It was alot easier back when the NPCs couldn't reboot, just destroy the plant and it's like milking a cow :P
Would a bunch of rail guns be good for destroying the power plant? Or is it not worth it?
IMHO it's not worth it as you risk killing the target and if you have a properly powerful ship you can just tank the fire.
Thanks Cmdr
Great now this is gonna get nerfed by the forums
NO fun allowed
That's quite a range. 2-30 mi.
It all depends on the ship you take - Cobra, $2M - Cutter, $30M - a Cobra can't hold more than a dozen or so where the Cutter can haul hundreds.
I managed to make 50M per hour in a python by doing this
you got a build?
Hey guys throw out some good systems for this
30 M an hour? if youre not doing 10 mil every 5 minutes youre doing something extremely wrong.
Well first I'd like to under promise and over deliver - and second show me a video where you're averaging 60M/hr including jumping, waiting, landing, etc.
does'nt work. right kind of systems but...........................nothing
Uh, riiiiiiiiiiight….
i can't fit my fuel scoop! i almost stranded out there!
Uh... I thought it's a tutorial for how to use low temperature diamond back scout for piracy. 😆
I'd sell LTDs for dollars ...
Well given this video is over a year old I don't do it this way anymore anyway.
Open up a browser, access the Frontier website, search the database for... Is this a joke? Its supposed to be a game, not a job. Imagine if you had to jump hoops like this to play GTA? ED is a very poorly designed game.
Sorry too difficult to understand for a newbie
