Maybe MCU took inspiration from that only. Already they have taken inspirations from various Indian mythological shows like the dusting away scene of Peter Parker in Infinity War is very similar to dusting away scene of Abhimanyu in Swastik Production's Mahabharat (2013). If you don't believe you can watch it yourself on Hotstar. Moreover Mind Stone on Vision's head identical to that of the Mahabharat's character Ashwatthama and its significance in the life of both of them is also very similar. Moreover in Infinity War the multiple arms projection scene of Dr Strange was inspired by Goddess Durga's ten arms something which Benedict Cumberbatch himself confirmed. Some other explicit references include "Victory to Hanuman" slogan in Black Panther which was edited in the Indian version to avoid controversy.
At first I used to think that these are just coincidences but now it seems that the Marvel creators really draw minute inspirations from other cultures and cinemas. And its good to know that ours is one of them.

My questions after watching 1st episode of What If -
1. What will Steve do now as he neither have Peggy nor Super Soldier Serum ?
2. Will there be any Winter Soldier in this universe
3. If there will be no winter soldier, Howard and Maria will be alive ?
4. If Howard won't die, then Tony will be as intelligent as we know him ?
5. Who will guard the Soul Stone ?
6. Is that Octopus type monster is Shumagorath as Red Skull has said that he had came from Hell ?
7. Will Steve become the new iron man ?
Your 7th answer is that after 70 year steve is died and tony will get the iron man suit and so on...

Too many unexplained things in this episode
1) Peggy got the tesseract from hydra and Howard stark used it's power to make hydra stomper suit. But later in the episode we see red skull using tesseract to bring that giant octopus to earth. My question is how did red skull get the tesseract back?
2) how can peggy travel to the future using space stone? It doesn't make any sense.
For Number 2, u can watch Captain b2, he made a Video on it
In train sequence redskull traps steve planting bombs in the train after the blast steve disappears red skull abducted hydra stomper and must've separated tesseract from the armour.

One very important detail:
The octopus that you saw was most probably the main head of hydra: HIVE. If you have watched agents of shield you'd understand the reference. In agents of shield, the sole purpose of hydra was shown. They (Gideon malick and others) wanted to bring a creature(HIVE) from another planet/galaxy (which they thought to be their supreme head) on Earth to rule for centuries but they couldn't find a better way. In later episodes, HIVE manages to come to earth in the body of Ward(ex shield agent who betrayed shield), and later, HIVE showed his real form having the head of an octopus.
So I believe that in this reality, Schmidt used tesseract to create a portal for HIVE to come here.
