I'd bet my bottom dollar that Jimmy's singing this song and thinking to himself.... "I wish I had written this one". Bruce Cockburn is an incredible songwriter and Canadian.
Even though I prefer Jimmy's rendition to Bruce's, I totally agree that it is an incredible song. Jimmy has a talent at finding a great song and making it better by putting a little Coral Reefer magic in it. There are quite a few others that he's done this to: Wheel Inside the Wheel, Mexico, Weather With You, to name a few. Keep in mind that Jimmy has written a few winners himself that others might be envious of! Fins Up!

Written is used as a past participle or future tense, and usually it is an ongoing action. If you are using written in the past tense you need to first have an auxiliary verb in front of it. The song was finished and it was in the past, therefore it is best to use wrote. Paying attention in middle school English would have saved you the humiliation of pretending you are smart in a youtube comment.

Hello from Cincinnati Ohio! This song can be found on a movie soundtrack CD. The name of the movie is Hoot. Jimmy appeared in the movie as a school teacher. He and the author are/were friends. I think Jimmy may have been part of the production of the movie, but I'm not sure about that. Fins Up!
