In 1998 i witnessed somebody who jumped on the tracks and to this day i can still remember the corpse strewn all over and the little girl who had pieces of the man splatter all over her. I never understood why we never built barriers like they do in many other countries.
No, gravity does not care about these babies falling onto the track. Gravity is a fundamental force of nature that acts uniformly on all objects with mass, regardless of the situation or the individuals involved. The fact that these babies survived is due to a combination of fortunate circumstances, such as the position of their bodies relative to the train and the gaps between the tracks, rather than any influence from gravity itself. Gravity's role in these scenarios is impartial and consistent, pulling the babies toward the ground just as it does with everything else.
As a new Dad of 1 year, this tragedy hits me on another level, so sorry to hear of such an incredible and unthinkable misfortune, I know most Dads would have done the same thing almost beyond choice. There's a huge love highlighted somewhere buried deep in this terrible story and set of circumstances. My heart goes out to the family. And to the mum, I hope your daughter is raised proud of who they were/would be. So sorry to have this happen to you.
I thought about this today as l waited for a train realising that anyone could just come up and push me off. l stood back against the wall. Life can just change in a second. We are so sorry 💔 RIP to the deceased
This sort of maliciousness has happened in the United States as well - in New York city where a woman who worked for the homeless, was actually pushed off the platform right in front of an approaching train - by a drug affected, mentally unstable, homeless guy (see New York Times, January 15, 2022 - :"Michele Go, 40, shoved onto the tracks of a train while waiting on the platform in Times Square, Manhattan". Apparently, she wasn't even standing at the very edge of the platform.)
I don’t know why they can’t put automatic rails on the platform that only come down when the train has stopped. Sure it’ll cost billions but cmon. How much are lives worth?
So tragic - for all. The mother and little girl, of course, but also onlookers and the poor train driver - and first responders. Tragic tragic. Prayers for all involved.
Why in heavens name, in this 21st Century technological world, we still have train stations over 100 years old WITHOUT safety barrier gates that automatically rises upwards, separating the platform from the tracks and protecting the public? When the train arrives and stops, the gates are lowered allowing passengers to disembark and new passengers board. The safety gates are automatically raised again when the train departs, preventing anyone from falling onto the tracks below the platform. Such systems are not new - many countries with a railway system have these already (eg Japan, China. South Korea and even certain Eastern European countries).
why in a world with all the safety features, do people not put the brakes on their pram or hold onto it or make sure that they face the pram away from the slope.
My take away from the comment sections after a rare tragic accident like this is that a lot of people truly believe personal accountability should be over ridden by government control. Scary stuff
Because these days EVERYTHING that everyone does wrong is always someone else's fault and the rest of us should find a solution to their lack of sense and pay for it.
Foreign countries like Japan and South Korea put guardrails and barriers up on train platforms, which open only when the train is stationary. These prevent such incidents and require the driver to stop in a designated position to allow the predictable flow of passengers through the barriers. Australia has a "lotsa luck mate" style of train platform, where it's a surprise people don't fall off the platform every other day
Tallwong to Chatswood have them. The new extension has them (opening up 4th August). They are currently adding them between Marrickville and Bankstown, that's why the line has to be shut for up to a year. Every single new station in Sydney will have them. Unfortunately Carlton station was built in 1889, platform screen doors didn't exist then. You will need to do a conversion similar to the Bankstown line. Unfortunately this is politically unpopular - the Bankstown line has been shut most weekends and school holidays in addition to the year long shutdown

People who have a fear of heights are acutely aware of the danger train platforms present. In some countries access to carriage doors is blocked until the carriages have stopped in front of a sliding door and passenger are allowed through the open gate otherwise there is no access to the platform.
So every time you take your hands off the pram you put the breaks on? How do we know he or the mum wasn’t holding the pram then they went to get something out of the bottom part? How do you know they weren’t getting a snack from their nappy bag, you weren’t there yet you just want to blame someone for a tragedy instead of being a decent human.
Amazing that these trains operated for over a century without the kinds of incidents but now all of a sudden there seems to be a rise in these completely avoidable incidents, i wonder what changed. Especially in Sydney. hmmm
@@Atom_gun Indeed, I think its already a false statement. It will be interesting to see how much longer the fallacy holds with the mindless sheep. They do seem still very much asleep begging for more nanny state control solutions to deliberately created problems
QLD train stations have a large yellow line you stand behind - about 2 metres away from the train. I'm a health care worker of over 40 years. I told a young Mum on a mobile she was standing too close to the train platform edge, just in case somebody accidentally pushed her, etc. She turned around & told me to eff off & mind my own business. She was swearing on the train at everyone looking at her. Child safety is EVERYBODYS BUSINESS!!!
I have lived in this suburb for 12 years using the train almost daily. I pushed prams with my kids on this station and there is no way the pram will roll by itself. Not even applying the break locks. Wind? I know it was a sunny day with no wind at all, I live 450m from the station. Barriers are needed on all train stations. CCTV needed to be reviewed.
Barrier installation is not expensive, I don’t know why the government doesn’t allow it for Sydney Train (not Metro). By using pre-built barrier, a single weekend is enough for installation and commissioning, per station. Is there a reason that train can’t stop at the same spot everytime?
In Perth I caught the train to the CBD every day. I watched a youngish Dad fold up the pram whilst the Mum stayed well back holding bub. The Dad went in first with the pram then beckoned Mum & Bub in when it was safe. I'd often wondered why he did that - now I know why.
I can only imagine how Mum is feeling right now. Absolutely gutt wrenching!!!! The real physical pains that accompany a severe emotional shock. I wish I could could give her a hug 😢 1 little girl who will feel half complete for the rest of her life! Amen. Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day. If we believe that, God will give as eternal life in heaven as a free gift. Not of our works, but by His grace alone. May God bless you.
Such a sad tragedy, I can only imagine what the family is going through. That's why stations opened after 2019 and indeed the ones opening in 2 weeks have platform screen doors to prevent an incident like this happening.
this will happen again and again no matter what is done by others to prevent it because accidents only take a moment of neglect.. there are notices, announcements, ad campaigns about holding onto prams, applying brakes, using tether straps etc...
So tragic my heart goes out to all of the victims especially the train driver as well. Please everybody just remember when you have prams put the brakes on or have the little black strap around your wrist. It's so sad that the mother lost a beautiful child and a husband. My thoughts are with the little girl on hair recovery from this tragic incident.
Australia is in a Stone Age compared to Japan? South Korea and Taiwan where train platforms have physical barriers to stop people getting in the way of a train. Shame on you, Australia’s transport ministers.
It's been said keep your stroller or prams away from the yellow line please listen to what's been said when you go train station. Sorry for your loss may god b with u and da family god bless Jesus name amen.
Seen it time and again most Fathers are too relaxed until something like this happens dont let carelessness get you to this point, prevention is always better
I wonder when our goverment get their heads out of their a$$es and put double doors on every station. It is not expensive but will save lives and make train stations people friendly
How many times are we going to see this. Why in the hell there isnt handrails with slide gates is beyond me. Cant have a pool without a code specific fence. Cant walk up stairs higher then 900mm with out handrails. Handrails and fences and barriers all around the station, but nothing where the trains pass by with 2024 zombies standing on the platform watching there phones, air pods in ears not a clue of the environment around them. It seems a very easy fix to me..
As a foreign born resident, I kind of seen this coming, not as much as a simple bit of bump or rumble strip to stop prams and wheeled luggage or wheelchairs. OH&S failures are regularly a fact of life here.
As sad as it is train stations need a speed hump a metre from the the edge of the platform to help stop this type of incident happening in the future.❤
Imagine how many people would trip on that and end up on the tracks. Might need to rethink that one. What is on the Sydney Metro (the glass walls at the platform edge) and which is also used at so many train stations around the world is the answer. Cheap, simple, 100% safe.
I saw someone let go of a loaded shopping trolley in a steep car park years ago. A minute later they looked around puzzled wondering why the wheeled shopping trolley was no longer there. Some people actually struggle with the idea of wheels and slopes.
@@blessedtobealive people let go of prams whenever they feel it is safe to do so. If they really knew it was dangerous they would have put a brake on before letting go. It is lack of awareness that is the issue, not distraction.

Do you know how many weekends and school holidays the Bankstown line has been down to be able to install the platform screen doors? I'll give you a hint. Every school holiday 12 weeks a year for 4 years at least, and that's not including the 1 extra year between soon and sometime in 2025. And for the Bankstown line conversion it was necessary because they needed the capacity vacated by Bankstown for the airport line. So the barriers was a nice to have but not the main reason why the Bankstown line is converted. Sydney Metro is automated single type of rolling stock unlike trains. They can align with the PSDs with accuracy something that the current trains can't do. Sydney Metro uses the newer standard of railway signalling communications based train control which isn't available for our train network. Also we have many different trains and the doors are everywhere so they can't align anyway
@@TomHommus what you said does make sense. Wouldn’t that mean to introduce better safety we will have to overhaul the current control system? Do you think permanently fixed gates along with some mechanism that ensures all the doors aling with the opening left would work?
@@xxblackjamxx4368 just to add our train network used old style traffic light signals so think of a track and divide it in blocks when a train occupies a block the signal is red, so no other trains are allowed on. Like traffic lights for roads no accidents if they are obeyed. Sydney metro and cross river rail and Melbourne metro tunnel (new sections only for the latter two) are using CBTC where the train communicates directly with the other trains on the line (and stations itself) that's how it knows where to position the doors and how the metro can drive itself without crashing into the train in front. From when I was on it I don't think Sydney metro even has the traditional traffic signals at all.

and.. of course, she will now say.. "I'm gonna pay more attention FROM NOW ON and take care of the other one so it never happens again"
and of course, she'll tell herself it wasn't her fault

@@martinkuliza IT WAS THE HUSBAND WHO WAS PUSHING THE PRAM ?
In some countries access to carriage doors is blocked until the carriages have stopped in front of a sliding door and passenger are allowed through the open gate otherwise there is no access to the platform.
How could it happen?
wind
Gravity. The platforms are curved towards the tracks.
The brakes clearly were not put on. Nothing else was the issue, not the wind or the slope of the platform
@@Pine_Gap_Island No they are not. It's slightly slanted in the opposite direction so nothing (should) be able to roll onto the tracks.
Let go of stroller and didn't put the break on
Such a tragedy, but what I don’t get is….why in the hell wasn’t the brake on the pram.
Yeah, brakes or someone holding it
People make mistakes, some mistakes you only make once! 😮
Lock the breaks. His phone was more important than them
Heart breaking, RIP.
Amazing that these trains operated for over a century without the kinds of incidents but now all of a sudden there seems to be a rise in these completely avoidable incidents, i wonder what changed. Especially in Sydney. hmmm
And the amount of near misses on the roads I’m seeing now. Hmmm I wonder what it could be
@@Atom_gun It really is a mystery, especially when we are being told Australia is the envy of the world. I wonder if that has something to do with it?
@@JohnJalascertainly won’t be a lasting statement at the current rate of things
@@Atom_gun Indeed, I think its already a false statement. It will be interesting to see how much longer the fallacy holds with the mindless sheep. They do seem still very much asleep begging for more nanny state control solutions to deliberately created problems
@@JohnJalas I have no idea what it could possibly be what's changed? Hmmmm🤔
Gee.... I wonder how this could have been avoided?
Tragic for the family. And let’s all take a moment of silence for the father who gave his life to save his babies
Very very sad courage to the family
Rest is peace mate and your little princess ❤ I hope your surviving daughter lives to have a fulfilling and amazing life 🙏🏽
heroes don't put their families in that situation
This is heartbreaking, may they both rest in peace❤❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢😢
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Barrier installation is not expensive, I don’t know why the government doesn’t allow it for Sydney Train (not Metro). By using pre-built barrier, a single weekend is enough for installation and commissioning, per station. Is there a reason that train can’t stop at the same spot everytime?
Why can't the jeets just stay off the tracks 🤣🤣🤣 big problem in India too!!
not all trains are the same, doors won't align
In Perth I caught the train to the CBD every day. I watched a youngish Dad fold up the pram whilst the Mum stayed well back holding bub. The Dad went in first with the pram then beckoned Mum & Bub in when it was safe. I'd often wondered why he did that - now I know why.
I can only imagine how Mum is feeling right now. Absolutely gutt wrenching!!!! The real physical pains that accompany a severe emotional shock. I wish I could could give her a hug 😢
1 little girl who will feel half complete for the rest of her life! Unfortunate tragic accident and we ALL have our heart stopping moments with our Children 100%

I heard about this just when my Huawei Watch notified me about this tragic news. I was so shocked! I then immediately looked this up and this made my day super uncomfortable.
Hope the responders are ok
May they rest in peace with our heavenly father ❤❤
Amen.
Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day. If we believe that, God will give as eternal life in heaven as a free gift. Not of our works, but by His grace alone. May God bless you.

bit presumptuous, if not potentially offensive
Why does everyone automatically go to heaven. Babies sure but...
@@blessedtobealive they don’t (Babies/toddlers, yes) automatically. That’s why I left the gospel in my previous comment, only believers go to heaven.
Bravery???How about the focus be on the children ALL THE TIME…
😭😭😭😭😭. That poor family. I can’t even imagine.
Such a sad tragedy, I can only imagine what the family is going through.
That's why stations opened after 2019 and indeed the ones opening in 2 weeks have platform screen doors to prevent an incident like this happening.
Easy to say but taking a pram onto a train station is fraught with danger and needs to be avoided if possible..
Hold onto the pram at all times. Doesn't have to be fraught with danger. Stay behind safety lines. Common sense.
V tragic
My heart goes out for this family
Strength to the family
that's heartbreaking
father is hailed as a hero but how tf did he let go of the pram bruh.
How horrific 😢😢
How? Like a lot
PRAMS HAVE BRAKES FOR A REASON 🧐
What is the point of stating the obvious? How is that helpful?
@@maryjanedodowhy does it have to be helpful? Your comment wasn't helpful.
@@maryjanedodo well clearly it wasn't obvious to someone
Something needs to be done !!! This can't happen again!!
Something was done.
Prams shd be held, and the brake used.
this will happen again and again no matter what is done by others to prevent it because accidents only take a moment of neglect.. there are notices, announcements, ad campaigns about holding onto prams, applying brakes, using tether straps etc...
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world!!!!!
I saw the headline and knew it was an Indian family that got crushed. Get off ya phone damn Ranjeet and pay attention! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just make prams that don't move unless being pushed.
that is what the brakes are for
What hero? If he was a good father, he would never let the pram go esp near the rail without any protection.
It's been said keep your stroller or prams away from the yellow line please listen to what's been said when you go train station. Sorry for your loss may god b with u and da family god bless Jesus name amen.
So, so sad.😥
That's a man right there.
such a man! neglecting his children and allowing them to roll onto train tracks! MANLY AF!!!
Seen it time and again most Fathers are too relaxed until something like this happens dont let carelessness get you to this point, prevention is always better
I wonder when our goverment get their heads out of their a$$es and put double doors on every station. It is not expensive but will save lives and make train stations people friendly
John 15:13 KJV - Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Can the platform design improved to prevent something like this happen again? Like a small ramp or slab uphill
So so very sad
Utterly tragic but entirely preventable.
There’s a strap on a pram for a reason…
I’ll get a strap on for you….
He was the one who let them roll onto the tracks. Yet he’s the hero?
As a foreign born resident, I kind of seen this coming, not as much as a simple bit of bump or rumble strip to stop prams and wheeled luggage or wheelchairs.
OH&S failures are regularly a fact of life here.
As sad as it is train stations need a speed hump a metre from the the edge of the platform to help stop this type of incident happening in the future.❤
Or maybe they shouldn't make it slope towards the tracks.
if only there was like a thing on prams where u can make the wheels stop and make them not roll, like a brake or something
@@squidwardtenticles8851 Don't they already have that? I think every pram has that. Unless you're being sarcastic 🤣
Imagine how many people would trip on that and end up on the tracks. Might need to rethink that one. What is on the Sydney Metro (the glass walls at the platform edge) and which is also used at so many train stations around the world is the answer. Cheap, simple, 100% safe.
@@PlayShorts3your IQ is just high enough to detect sarcasm. Congratulations
I’m so sorry for you
I saw someone let go of a loaded shopping trolley in a steep car park years ago. A minute later they looked around puzzled wondering why the wheeled shopping trolley was no longer there.
Some people actually struggle with the idea of wheels and slopes.
But what would distract you long enough to let go of a pram??
@@blessedtobealive people let go of prams whenever they feel it is safe to do so. If they really knew it was dangerous they would have put a brake on before letting go. It is lack of awareness that is the issue, not distraction.
Not really the time mate
@@blessedtobealive OH I don't know...Your PHONE maybe? Not saying that's what happened in this case but people really do need to start taking their face out of the device and pay attention to what is going on around them They have zero situational awareness anymore.
@@glennjgroves Why wait to know it's dangerous before putting the brake on before you let go. Common sense would be putting the damn brake on anyway in case. Perhaps let go to scroll up phone screen? Maybe not but still let go without applying the brakes. People have said it may have been windy. In that case, extra care should have been taken to make sure you hold on to the pram. It's a tragedy and she will never get over it but it was preventable.

All that tax payer money the government spent on putting up barriers between shoppers and cashiers while we were breathing the same air from the same room should have gone towards updating all train stations and level crossings and school crossings. Sydney metro barriers but for the trains
we have them
they work
why not use them???
The father was my relative 😢
