  • PoolRx is a Mineral Technology that does two very simple things when used in your pool or spa; it eliminates all algae and will allow you to use less chlorine during the pool season. The active ingredient is Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate (chelated).
    What Chelated means is that the metals in the PoolRx have been bonded to form two coordinated bonds similar to what Metal Sequestering Agents do. This means that the Metal Ions will remain in the PoolRx unit with no metal ions being introduced into the pool or spa water. PoolRx is Chelated so the metal ions stay within the PoolRx unit itself.
    Make sure that you choose the right size PoolRX unit so that the treatment will be effective. You can place it either in your skimmer or pump basket. When you first insert the unit run your pool for 3-4 hours. Then run it the normal cycle to get at least one full cycle of water from the pool, into the filter, and back into the pool again. The PoolRx unit should last 4-6 months.
    PoolRx eliminates all algae fast. Even microalgae that you can't see but uses up the chlorine in your pool.
    PoolRx is ideal for a saltwater pool also. It will extend the life of your salt cell as you run the system at a lower output while PoolRx is present in the pool, typically 50% less output. PoolRx minerals also include a de-scaler that will prevent scale from attaching to the salt cell meaning less cleaning of the cell is needed. Also since it is generating less, the pH won't rise as high requiring less acid to be added to the pool.
    You can also use PoolRx to clear up a green pool. Fred goes over the process in detail in the Podcast
    and I have done this myself so I know it is very effective. Just remember that a lot of the minerals will be used up in clearing up the pool so a Booster Pack will be needed.

    If you are a homeowner purchasing PoolRx for your pool will save you money on all of your chemicals including chlorine (liquid or tablets), clarifiers, Phosphate Removers, and Shock. The price of the PoolRx unit will pay for itself over the course of the season and as a bonus, your water will remain algae-free. So the $60-$90 investment is well worth it and to get your money's worth to add the PoolRx right at the beginning of the season.
    For the Pool Service Professional PoolRx is something that you would add on and charge your customers for. I have not maintained my own pool for the six years that I have owned this home, so am learning. My pool guy allowed yellow/brown algae to grow for the last 6 weeks while I was away. He shocked the pool 9 days ago, but there is no change in the accumulation. (He will be back tomorrow but has not communicated what steps he will be taking.) I had the water tested by Leslie's 2 days ago and find among other calculations that I have a 0.3 level of copper. Meaning that I should add CUlator 4.0 and wait 3-4 weeks in order to remove all metals before adding the Pool RX. Questions: what happens with the algae accumulation during this wait time? Do I do something different with the chlorine level during this wait time? Am I looking at another 6 weeks before I can actually use my pool? Thank you!

    Is it ok to use this in conjunction with the Frog Mineral system? I've replaced the mineral pack in the Frog and still have an issue with algae or is a phosphate remover recommended?

      Would not suggest that. I would try a phosphate remover instead.

    In your videos you say to remove Copper from your water prior to using the PoolRx. I notice that PoolRx has Copper Sulphate in it, so after adding the PoolRx unit, would it then raise your copper levels of your water?

    • @SPL
      @SPL  3 года назад

      The copper in the PoolRx is bonded to the anode so it won't fall out unless there is a high copper level already - then the anode can't bond all of it and it can drop out and stain the pool. That is why your pool needs to have no copper to start.

    13,000 gal saltwater pool in North Central Florida. Temps are in the 90s now for most of the summer. Pool re-plastered 7 months ago. Phosphates are high. Have a blue Pool Rx in the pump basket since February 2021. (Used one for the prior year as well.) Just started seeing what I think are black algae spots. Maybe time to replace current Pool Rx (or add a booster) for the summer. What do I do first? Treat phosphates? Remove current Pool Rx first? Get phosphates lowered before I add new Pool Rx or booster? Phosfree requires 48 hours continuous running time. THANKS VERY MUCH FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME!!

      I would do the phosphate treatment now. After 2 days put a new poolRx unit in. That will eventually take care of the Black Algae.

      Same issue here. New water. Perfect chemistry and PoolRx worked great on green and mustard but very short lived on black algae. It only worked about 3 wks on black algae. I think this is due to black algae having roots that extend down to the gunite. I'm moving on to phosphate removers.

    I was surprised when I went to 3 different pool stores and asked if they have the PoolRX and they didn’t have any idea what I was talking about. Now They said they are gonna look it up. I hope so so they will start carrying the product. I have a question can I use Culator and the poolRX? R they compatible?

      You ould use the CuLator first for 30 days if you have any measurable metals in the pool. Then insert the PoolRX. 👍

    I still have alge buildup and I think spots of black alge in pool after weeks of poolrx. I added poolrx before the pool was balanced. I had the water tested a couple days after and added what was needed. Would this hurt it from working and what do I need to do to fix it. 36,000 salt water pool

      I would raise the chlorine to 30 ppm for 3-4 days. Brush the algae with a 6" Stainless steel algea brush if you have a plaster or PebbleTec pool. If it is fiberglass or vinyl use a regular brush. Then add a PoolRX Booster when the chlorine drops down below 10 ppm.

    I use Pool Rx Blue and noticed that my light bezels were turning brown. I installed a zinc anode and the staining reversed and it appears that the zinc anode is accumulating some copper (green scale). Should I reduce copper levels before putting in another Pool Rx and would there be any value to using Rx Plus?

    • @SPL
      @SPL  Год назад

      You don't want to add more PoolRx at this time. Just let everything takes it's natural course at this point.

    I used PoolRX in my pool which had mild green algae and some black algae in the shaded areas of the pool. The chlorine kept dropping off. So after using it (black 25000 gallon pool) it worked great for about 3 weeks then I noticed the black algae making a come back. So does it truly live up to it's claims of 6 months? I highly doubt it. I tested the water for phosphates and I got a 200ppb reading. I'm moving on to phosphate removers. I treated the water according to directions and 2 days later the phosphate levels are still the same. Going to retreat. It should be mentioned that I started with a clean filter and perfect chemistry and water is fresh this year. The other issue with PoolRx is that the capsule you place in the leaf trap or skimmer will get clogged with debris inside the capsule. If the water isn't flowing through it no ionization is occurring. It takes TIME to clean it out so this can be an issue on a pool route. I give this product 3-4 stars due to it not working great on black algae.

      @SPL  3 года назад

      The Black Algae may be using up the minerals faster then if it was not there. Try adding a booster and see if that recharges the unit.
