  • Drawing Projects UK presented this online Drawing Discussion - with Frank Leuwer and Ayeshah Zolghadr - alongside the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2020 exhibition on Wednesday 20 January at 6pm.
Selected artists, Frank Leuwer and Ayeshah Zolghadr introduced their drawings selected for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2020 exhibition, spatial, place and familial relationships with Anita Taylor followed by a Q&A with the audience. (Please note this recording includes informal discussion between the panellists as the audience gathers for the event.)
Frank Leuwer has three drawings selected for the exhibition, Untitled (Attic), Untitled (Room), Untitled (Room), all are Sellotape on paper, 44 x 34cm, and made in 2020. This work is part of an ongoing series of Sellotape drawings that fuse both imagined and actual spatial relationships. An integral part of the series is the constant layering of material, resulting in a condensation forming on the paper. This relates directly related to the atmosphere of the location.
Ayeshah Zolghadr's drawing Circling the Square I, 2020, is a digital line drawing (giclée print), 84 x 60cm. Circling the Square I traces repetitive walks made by her father from 07 February until 21 May 2020, looping the square outside of his home multiple times a day, following varying paths. Through the practice of walking, he seeks control over his medical anxiety and ongoing stroke recovery. Initially recorded by her father through the Strava platform, forming a way to generate line drawings, the work expresses an abstracted visual database that transcribes 116 meditative walks, where the greater the distance covered, the smaller the satellite representation becomes, with the line quality reflecting the mechanism used to capture them.
