  • Drawing Projects UK presented this online Drawing Discussion - with Andrea Cryer and Craig Fisher - alongside the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2021 exhibition on Tuesday 11 January 2022.
Exhibiting artists, Andrea Odu Cryer and Craig Fisher, will introduce their drawings selected for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2021 exhibition and will discuss the nature of drawing with stitch with Professor Anita Taylor followed by a Q&A with the audience.
Andrea Cryer's drawing, Searching, 2021, thread drawing, 70 x 70cm is drawn with thread on a repurposed vintage wool blanket. A sketch capturing a moment when searching for a lost memory from a series of drawings and photographs of her elderly mother whom they were ‘shielding’ during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Craig Fisher's drawing, Pages from my Sketchbook, 2021, hand machine embroidery on linen, 60 x 80cm (overall), 37 x 25cm (individual pages). Pages from my Sketchbook are an ongoing series of drawings that employ labour intensive textile techniques (machine and hand embroidery) to re-present and replicate the quick notes/sketches/drawings Craig Fisher make in notebooks. Taking inspiration from the everyday and the art/artists he is looking at, the sketchbook page drawings visualise ideas, thinking and research. Re-making the original ‘sketches’ by stitching them offers a different perspective on their value, elevating their status due to the time spent producing them.
