Nikon has hit a home run with so many products recently! I just purchased the Z9 and the 85mm 1.2 on the same day, and I’m waiting for the 135mm Plena.
My Nikon Z lens wishlist: • Z 20mm 1.2 (or 1.4) S-line dedicated for Astro (similar to the Sigma DG DN Art version with manual lock switch + lens warmer notches, etc) • Z 90mm 2x Macro, either F2 or F2.8
What a wonderful discussion. Thank you Seth for bringing Mark Cruz to the discussion. I'm fighting my gear acquisition syndrome's desire to "fill out" my Z system f/1.8 lens lineup with the 24mm and the 135mm plenum. This video just makes me want both more. I love the 50mm f/1.8 and the 85mm f/1.8 and I'm learning to love the 20mm f/1.8. I'm headed to the Nikon Europe engineering discussions about the Plena after watching this. I'd love to hear Mark's take or Seth's take on adding the Nikon neutral clear filter AUTOMATICALLY to any new Z lens I buy. Just my OCD kicking in.
Really appreciate the background and perspective that Mark Cruz brings that is behind the philosophy of Nikon. Making camera's and lenses is a bit different than just using them. Super interesting! Thanks you. So thankful for what Nikon has been doing...especially in enabling hi bit rate raw video. LOVE the Z9, 50 and 24-120.
ordered mine this morning. I have had and loved Zeiss 135 Planar f2 and Sigma 1.8... the later being exceptional for event work to change up perspective from 70-200 2.8. For those wanting 1.4 even setting aside physical increase it is just chasing a "number". a 135 1.2 would be just silly and unusable wide open unless the subject was so far away to diminish the the razor thin plane of focus....and at that point you would be better off using 70-200 2.8 @ 200. There's silly number chasing & then there is real world functionality which makes 1.8 perfect.
Great presentation! I will get the Plena next Spring. I would love to see more compact retro style lenses for the ZF. Otherwise Sigma should release their I-Series on the Z mount
I really want the 135 and it’s the lens I’ve been waiting for. However it’s going to have to wait for now as I got the Z8 on release day and already preordered the orange ZF and the 28mm 2.8. I’m so excited and so excited for Nikon! Seth, what button did you set up to go from single focus to face detection? Is it a button you made go from single pt auto focus to continuous auto focus?
Sorry I missed this live - was wondering if there were plans to make a 28mm 1.8 S (I note that Viltrox has now made one), and/or a faster 28mm - like 1.2/1.4 (to match the F mount 28mm 1.4 E)? Along the same lines, what about replacing the 105mm 1.4 E - now that there is an 85mm 1.2 S and a 135 1.8 S, I realize that there is less of a need for the 105 - in my case, I will be keeping my 105 1.4 E in addition to the new 85 and 135, but still wondering if there are thoughts about a new fast 105? -PD
Time to get the Plena, and will continue to eliminate the rest of my F mount glass. The new glass is fantastic, I have not seen one that is inferior to the F glass. I'm so glad I did not jump ship to Sony when most people did (in the birding community).
From my time of shooting 4X5 architecture I would love to have a tilt/shift. But I don't know what focal length would be best. What does everyone else think?
Wish list! I would like my Z9 to be Bluetooth camera controlled on my DJI Ronin R3 pro and to be recognised by the the awesome new Tilta Nano II. I also hope that Nikon has a secret plan to one day open up the Ethernet port on the Z9 to let pro audio companies make Dante add ons!I I would love Nikon to work with Skarhoj to work on broadcast remote controllers like Red has done even with their Komodo cameras! I preordered my Plena on launch!😁
You want whatever Sigma is going to put out then. I’m doubtful we will see a 1.4 line from Nikon given we have 1.8 and 1.2. I would love one too but I don’t see a business case for Nikon. Sigma - absolutely!
Please tell Nikon to include a feature in the next z5 firmware update whereby during focus, the lens' aperture will open to its widest value while locking on focus, then it falls back to the programmed f-stop value before taking the shot. This will allow the most amount of light to hit the sensor, so it can assist the camera in autofocus. That way lenses like Plena can be used with it, and won't go funny in studio environments where you need to cancel out the ambient light, before adding flash.
Didn't hear anything on the road map or planned for PC/TS lenses.....Seth, kill Mark push him to answer the super wides and PC/TS question (lol) - ops, you actually covered this at 34min - one focal length 17mm.. Don't let him out of the studio till he answers. Favorite line: "Nikon, I have no time for you. That's why we are here today. I kind a regret it, I wish I had gotten my hands on this and we tried to "NOCT" it out". ;-)
I personally wouldn't buy an apsc z-mount camera, it seems like a waste of the huge mount size... however you could argue that every full frame Z lens mounted on an apsc camera should have plena "qualities" - less vignetting, better bokeh at the edges, sharper edge to edge. On the flip side of the coin the plena lens on a medium format sensor will have worse performance than full frame.
$2500 for a 1.8f lens? No. It’s priced too high. May be $900-$1000 might be just on the higher range. That’s it. Otherwise I really want this lens but can’t afford it
35mm 1.2 50mm 1.2 85mm 1.2 135 1.8 can’t ask for anything else. Thank you Nikon! 👊

I would love a 16-35mm f/2.8 surprise!

28mm 1.8 S.... or faster. I love the 28 action
Impressive guys, thank you!

The 58 1.4 is one of Nikons best lenses. Been using it for the last 6 years.

what about 17-35 f2.8? such a great f-mount lens, wish for a z-mount...
YES!! We NEED a Z 14mm f/2.8 S
Nikon may be late in the game but they are hitting the ballpark with this great lenses👍😊
Yes to the rangefinder.
see !
Pre-ordered the Plena and ZF. Appreciate your videos. I need to visit Adorama in person, next time in the city.

Will Adorama ever have an app for the iPhone?
Dear Nikon could we get a 28 1.2 or 1.8 s line?
Mark, when are we getting open gate video?
This lens will give you the equivalent look of ~200mm f2.8 in APSC crop mode. Extremely versatile.
Thanks, guys! Good info.
From my time of shooting 4X5 architecture I would love to have a tilt/shift. But I don't know what focal length would be best. What does everyone else think?
20MM
Great video. Would like to see a Nikon 200mm F5.6 macro Z lens with long MFD. Min 1x but 2x would be a bonus.
The Nikon 85 1.2 for $2,700+ all while being made in China is unacceptable.

Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
When does the lens start shipping?
October 12
If projecting larger than a full frame sensor makes for image improvement why aren't all lenses made this way?
Man! I wanted to ask more about 1.4 lenses in the future. I want a nifty fifty 1.4 and 84 1.4. Something I can carry on my shoulders all day.
You want whatever Sigma is going to put out then. I’m doubtful we will see a 1.4 line from Nikon given we have 1.8 and 1.2. I would love one too but I don’t see a business case for Nikon. Sigma - absolutely!
What is the actual measurement of the rear element

That Plena is amazing! I can see myself making some good money with it lol :)

Never been in The Bronx , actually never been out of Missouri.
informative content.
I’m going to rename mine to Crema.
Spanish for cream, no need to google.
Great listening to Mark (when he got a chance to talk).
I know Im just awful
28mm f1.4
28mm f1.8
28mm f1.2
18mm f1.7 / f2 DX prime (~28mm)
I’m actually considering trading in my Z 70-200mm f2.8 S for this. Hmm…
Rangefinder please
Focus looks super fast
Seth wearing a Kenneth ghost T-shirt.
Telephoto lenses do not compress.
Are you really ? Nikon medium format? Never!!!
Phase one is the best,
85 1.2 or 135 f1.8? 😂

You are wrong.
I just ordered that lens open box/display for $1300
