The way this woman uses words to describe situations... It's art. It's the art of storytelling. She can't help but paint a beautiful picture for you to imagine!.
Paula was the first stand-up comedian that I ever watched on comedy central. She is why I fell in love with comedy. I used to tell her jokes at family functions to make the adults laugh 😂
I came here to say the same. Paula Poundstone is one of the all time greats. I also grew up listening to her on CC, and later on satellite radio. I have never heard her do a bit I didn’t like. It’s great listening to her on this podcast and finding out she is just as cool in real life.
Thank you for bringing Paula Poundstone. She’s the first comedian I remember watching on Comedy Central & wanted to consume everything she put out. Love how she’s still genuine & matter of fact.
I am glad that Paula is in a healthy place now. I actually saw her perform in Bellingham, Washington, right before the allegations from her foster kid came out. She was totally off her game because she was super drunk. She is like a phoenix rising from the ashes now, and I am so very happy that she’s back! Keep on keeping on Paula.
Same here at the Anaheim, CA show. I wanted to leave but we were pretty packed in at tables, plus she was harassing those lucky enough to flee. Prior to that she was the most brilliant comedian and perfect on the fly. I am happy to see she’s embraced recovery and is in a healthier place.👏
Neal is a low key counselor. I’ve never heard ppl be so honest about themselves. I think most of us are attracted to drama. This really is a cool podcast.
Thank you for this wonderful interview. Adore Paula . Meet and Great is an.understatement. Met Paula in Charleston SC and the amount of time spent with each fan was amazing. I appreciated the Little Debbie cake story Paula shared😅
Amazing that her greatest accomplishment is helping her daughter with cerebral palsy walk without crutches ♾️ It feels so good helping people get more autonomy
Paula is pretty amazing. I spent a lot of my childhood overhearing/watching her stuff on Comedy Central and she cemented herself as a legend. Lil box of Strawberry Frosted Pop Tarts from Jean and Ginny, huh?
Started just to check it out, didn't stop until it was over. One of the first comedians I ever knew of, and I still get a kick out of any place she shows up.
Watching from the State of Rhode Island as always-another excellent guest Neal-you hit the ball outta tha park again-and three thumbs up for your honesty Paula-PEACE ALL!
Another Great Ep. When I lived in NYC, I would go to a lot of different comedy clubs (my “home” club was Catch). But any night Paula was on, was a good night.
Very germain to what I've been experiencing in parts of my family life. And I'm happy to get to know Poundstone better. Her vulnerability really carried this one
I always liked her. One of my favorite lines of hers it, "Can you ever, as an adult, remember a time when you DIDN'T want to take a nap? She was talking about one of her kids raising a fuss about having to take a nap in the afternoon.
Paula Poundstone (and Richard Lewis) were so formative and sustaining through their interviews, televised specials, and scandalous kerfuffles for the past 30 years of this commenter's existence and which have been three decades of lessons that are hard to take the big pink eraser to, but the sentiment is real and deep ❤✏️✏️✏️✏️ ❤
loved the suits and the hair - it's always been liberating for others to witness novel styles, it's really enlightening to hear this discussion, guess it's time to grab one of her books
OMG!!! (all caps in a good way) I used to go see Paula Poundstone on Clement Street in San Francisco at the legendary Holy City Zoo in the early to mid 80”s. Good Times! I adore her! She’s so damn funny, smart, interesting and awesomely weird in a way that I completely relate to…maybe it’s a Paula thing. And oh yeah, I used to call The Zoo to talk to my comedian boyfriend and the woman who ran the place would be so disappointed when it was “this Paula” and not Poundstone…totally not offended I was disappointed too!
You don’t take away someone’s drive to win. You teach them how to lose calmly so they can least go to win the next time. The anxiety of losing can lead to very bad decisions.
I found it cute the way she tried dancing past the graveyard on the "court ordered" attendance to AA meetings. You could tell she didn't want to go down that road and Neil let her off the hook.
@@rinnypink she was charged with child endangerment (for drunk driving with children in her car), and three counts of performing a lewd act on a child. The details of those charges are sealed and nobody ever asks about it.
@@thesimulation9651Yeah, I think that's something she needs to at least address. I mean I understand how her alcoholism endangered her kids and protecting the victim from telling the story, but those lewd charges I just can’t get past especially when she doesn’t deny it. She just refuses to talk about why she was charged with that. It seems from what I read it was a plea deal to drop the lewd charges for her guilty plea to endangerment which is very odd too.
@@MISNM0 I've spent days watching those videos. He's so great at playing with the guests. Stephen Fry, Steven Wright, Robin Williams, Michael Sheen, etc, etc
I believe, A comics' ego comes from very good timing. Good timing is what works for the masses. Paula has always been herself, sometimes with frosting or marmite. She's human without a forced show, extremely smart and communicative. Her stories resonate and connect in interesting ways. Met her in the street drunk once decades ago😵💫
Just saw the headline and am THRILLED to see her as a guest. I love this woman and the light she brings into the world. If you don't know Some Things Need To Change.... But Not My Butterfinger song then look it up. Amazing. (Backstory on her pod)

Love Paula Poundstone! So happy to see her on here! 😀😀👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Feel like Neal could’ve been a little more friendly in this interview though. He wasn’t mean but just wasn’t nice in a lot of his responses.🤷🏻♀️. Also not sure why he “forgot” to record an intro for her - maybe he was in another world that day and just not present. Ok Neal just invite her again sometime ;-)
She's probably the best comic improviser I've ever seen-- be it crowd work (sorry, Paula) or her appearances on Wait, Wait. In fact, she makes or breaks that show for me: If she's on, I'll listen. If not, I won't. She's a comedy gem.
It's been said, but I believe as a kid Paula Poundstone was like the first example when I learned that taught me that being a comedian was a thing. The archetype!
Ever since I saw her special with the bit about the Snickers commercial auditions, I will hear and say "[when your appetite's] pokin' at ya, pokin' at ya"
I listened to the whole thing, and appreciate the words of advice and such from Paula, but… yeah her past with childcare/foster care is… triggering to say the least. From: former foster-system kid who was molested in the system at 3 different homes.

What a genuine gem of a human. Love Paula and Neal! And to have “Doesn’t know anything about horses” as a block 😂😂😂😂 Fantastic episode!
