Fearless Luke decided to build a FliteTest Piper Cub RC plane using coreflute instead of foamboard. The results were "interesting". And where has our summer gone???
Another outstanding example of traditional club flying. Many people, often wielding cameras and invariably making 'helpful' and 'supportive' comments as the model misbehaves and plummets groundwards. Best place to test and learn to fly a new project is an empty field miles from the nearest observers :D
Yeah... If I had someone laughing at me and making Smart Ass remarks while testing a new RC plane... I'd smack him in the back of the head to smart him up.
+laserbee Wow, you must be a real fun guy to hang out with. No worries mate, none will laugh at you at the field, because there will be none there with you.
Wow! Not quite the reaction I expected. Having the extraction process is part of the fun of club flying. Especially if you are halfway up a large tree in retrieval mode. Or taking the walk of shame. The advantages in my experience are that there are more people around to help pick up the pieces when needed (all too often in my case). If I claimed I was innocent of similar banter I'd be lying. That said I do test fly away from the club. I don't fly well in front of an audience (or for that matter without one) :D
As a matter of fact I'm a long time member of 2 RC clubs and we don't have Smart Ass Asshats (Bruce) in our clubs... Instead we have members that know how to communicate with others in a respectful, helpful and positive manner.
lasersbee bit is way more fun having people making smart ass comments. I find it to be hilarious even when its me they are laughing at lol. Flying would be so dull without it 😁
Perhaps we need Nowak to chime in here to confirm what a righteous mode 1 sock tan that bloke has! Geez Louise, bro! Come to Texas so at least your foot tan will match the shape of your flip flops! All in good fun, man! Keep hanging with Bruce and continuing the build, fly, crash, repeat cycle and all will be right with the world. That same spirit/notion is what ALL hobbies are based upon! As a father of two teenage daughters (who could care less about my aviary obsessions), I enjoy seeing your son following along with you on a common journey of frivolousness!
Beautiful hand made rc plane. Dial Down the rates and the throttle and pick up the speed a little and you are home free! Tough crowd to maiden around for sure.
sunriseshell Agreed. Some comments here are a bit harsh. I'm sure Bruce would be way more 'serious' if it were an expensive model. I have heard him do this on other videos.
Agreed Blokes - those flying today can be the ones having a giggle when Bruce is doing the flying and others are behind the camera. Besides, aren't these sort of super-budget-friendly planes all about having a go and having a laugh? The Flitetest guys laugh at themselves even more when they're messing up.
Some one suggested rudder use only, I agree. As I just built this plane for a friend, I think dumbing down the input to the controls may help 100 percent.
Looks like it yaws left due to high P-factor when climbing. Propeller turns CW (viewed from cockpit). Oncoming air hits right side of blade at higher alpha than the left side, creating higher thrust on right side than left side. Opposite issue when descending. Other than using a smaller prop or changing the thrust angle around, there's not much to do.
UAVfutures Bruce introduced me into RC planes a couple years, and you convinced me to dip my toes into FPV. You both are excellent ambassadors for the hobby!
I’m gonna say too heavy, and CG just slightly too far back! I’ve seen people increase the wing span on the Simple Cub in order to fix stability issues.
just one correction..and plane will fly normally...every crash of your plane is due to improper handling of the aelirons .. remove the aelirons..because you r not able to handle the aelirons...use rudder for turning and plane will fly smoothly
Tail draggers ground loop with too much throttle and not enough air speed. Try elevator up until you're really cooking then let it go to center. Tail comes up and your plane takes off.
@ Luke the Pilot - get some FPV on there for extra nose weight. The foamboard FT use isn't available in Oz either, gonna have to try Coreflute myself now. Cheers!
I too tried with coroplast... I faced similar crashes too... It looked like i didn't control or it didn't responds to it.... But how did you made it fly back this good ?

"Which way does it wanna turn?"
"Towards the ground"
LOL I'M IN FOR THE COMMENTARY
"Which way is it trying to spin?" .... "Towards the ground." Lmao😜

I’m sure Bruce can be fun to fly with sometimes, but if I’d been the one flying here, I’d want Bruce to keep his comments to himself for once 🤣

Rons so cool as always
bruce how can I contact you mate to organise a NZ meet up
I emailed you.
UAVfutures Bruce introduced me into RC planes a couple years, and you convinced me to dip my toes into FPV. You both are excellent ambassadors for the hobby!
I dont see it in my email bruce, uavfutures@gmail.com ?
Yep, that's where I sent it. You can get ahold of me at aardvark.co.nz@gmail.com
It looks tail heavy and/or the tail was stalling. It makes quite a good Pitt (Propeller Integrity and Toughness Tester) aircraft.
Which thickness of corflute was used for the build on this? 3mm or 5mm ?
"Matches the color of the sky". hahahahhaha
I’ve been wondering how well the Coroflute would work. Sweet!
Great fun was had by all

Onewinglow....hahahha... almost spit me coffee out....
"One Wing Low" lol
With that much under camber using ailerons that's exactly how I would expect it to behave lol.
Agreed! I'd give it more diehedral and fly it rudder/elevator only.
When these kids fiddle with their sticks too much on landings, Ron needs a ruler to smack them on the knuckles!? LMAO
great times, so punny too! have a great new year guys :)
hahaha "went a bit chinese on that one eh?! one wing low!" lol

It's way over stable on the roll axis because the landing gear is lowering the vertical CG to ridiculous lengths
angle of attack of wing too high...?
lovely!
I there an airplane magnet on that other side of the runway behind the fence?
Two things wrong (1) tail heavy (2) need to point the motor 3 to 6 degrees to the right , motor should be ccw.
needs to set the expo some. :) and come way down on the control surface travel. FT planes are very touchy and easy to over control.
these top-wing Flitetest cub/trainer designs tend to be a bit tail heavy, due to the mass amounts of hot-glue used at the tail end of the craft...
mine's not, it flies like a dream, especially after 40 or 50 unplanned hard landings. Try more down thrust to see it really shine.
5 deg down thrust and 3 deg right thrust should fix it!

Officeworks has foam board
@@mrgreenswelding2853 :( Nothing over 500x700mm
built a few flight test planes most are nice flyers I have the FT Pietenpol coming in the mail soon
bahhahaha "are the lights working yet I can see many hands"
did a second take when I read the title. It's known as Coroplast in the states.
Cloudy days are good days to see a colorful airplane?
coro cub from SPAD to the Bone
Classic!
Took pants off and he came out straight.
i bet that thing is near indestructable
C@@L Kinda Like A Horizon Champ! Nice... Thanks
Lovely people.
I too tried with coroplast... I faced similar crashes too... It looked like i didn't control or it didn't responds to it.... But how did you made it fly back this good ?
I’m still not a proficient pilot for that type of landing... LOL.
I had to go back and re-check at 2:20. Has he used Vero-Board as the engine mounting plate?
I know he painted that orange prop White.
Muy bueno ese material gracias a segir intentandolo
:-D "It was a bit Chinese at take off ... one wing low"
heheheh and Bruce gets torched,,,,,,,,,,,,, so when did you last build something,,, ehehheeh
Bloody tail heavy
The plane's heavy. Needs more power.
Chinese take off "Whan wing lo" hahahaha!!!!! so awesome
You'll get it right, it looks great.. ( one wing low, )LOL...😑
Too much torque with this motor, that's why it tends to the left when you give power. Plus it's very tail heavy. Regards
Check your CG
well it looks like a plane at least
CAN YOU SEND MI THIS PLANE DESIGNE FOR CORROFLUTE
omg luke :D
Your motor is making throttle which is not good u have to eliminate throttle
Too much tech in the transmitter and not enough in the model.
I think that is tail heavy, to big and heavy motor, to big propeller, to much for small depron plane.
bessybessy Not Depron or foamboard, it's coroflute (Coroplast).
@@sunriseshell coroplast
@@AlymerKiteboy Yep
It's to tail heavy.
wayyyyyyyy too much travel on the surfaces
I watvh these videos to see everyone except xjet. It takes a soecial pos to talk crap about a guys plane when his kid is there with him.
I play to my strengths! :-)
These videos are a lot more enjoyable without listening to the Sound.Noise....
Bad CG
do you ever listen to yourself and think - wow im a total a-hole ?
Well said............Couldn't agree more...
Is that sound of grinding axes I hear?
Bruce is an amazing man, funny, knowledgeable, supportive and kind, if you don't understand that you don't understand "friendship"
Turns out that is how grown up, emotionally secure men talk to each other over here.
For Sir Crashalot's more refined sense of humour and mateship I suggest you search & watch "proximity with sergio"! ;-)
