Over time the creature became deified and sure enough greed eventually turned the once equal community into a class system with those having more access to the wealth that the creature provided controlling the distribution of its miracles to the lesser villagers. This in turn sow seeds of discontent and one day it erupted into chaos. The twist is that while the creature's body was ravaged beyond recognition it was all the creature's own plan to draw out the worst aspects of man as a means to win a bet against Jin Chanzi, one of Buddha's disciple and former incarnation of Tang Sanzang. Basically their conversation at the end can be boiled down to: "I won. This proves my theory that humans are greedy and evil by nature." "But you won by manipulating them towards your ends. You didn't prove jack shit." "Hey whatever works."
Just realized you can see an invisible force tug the man forward and the sparkling gem is Yellowbrow casting a spell. He manipulated this into happening. The monk was right. He didn't prove anything save his own pettiness and manipulations.
This soundtrack hits hard near the end. I had shivers listening to it along with the animation. Truly amazing artwork here and shows the level of beauty that only an animation can offer which is why live action of anything can never even compare.
Just to straighten things up: 1. That Turtle is one of Yellowbrow's incarnation, yes, it was his previous life but he's not an actual Leather Neck Turtle. He just descended to Mortal World in Turtle form. He's original form is also a monk like Jinchanzi. 2. I know a lot of westerners prolly confused who Jinchanzi is. He's known as Golden Cicada (Jinchanzi translates to Golden Cicada)
Turtle and Jinchanzi made a bet about human nature. Turtle insisted that human is greedy and evil by nature, and to prove it he indulged the human and fueled their greed by himself. After the outcome he came to Jinchanzi and said he won the bet, to which Jinchanzi only found pathetic that the only thing Turtle cared about was winning and losing.
