This one here is sure to make you look twice. This stunning 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am really is a sweet ride! An original black on black car, this sweet Pontiac looks like it came straight out of Smokey and the Bandit. Following 1977's facelift that included four rectangular headlights, the 1978 model year Firebird was very similar to the previous year with the most major change being the switch from a honeycomb to a crosshatch pattern grille. This fantastic '78 comes fitted with a stock W72 6.6L (400 C.I.) Pontiac V8 paired to a Rochester 4-barrel carburetor. That power is connected to the rear wheels through a Hurst 4-speed manual transmission, giving this car a true performance feel. The adjustable black leather bucket seats are extremely comfortable for both racing and cruising! In addition, the factory black-on-black paint scheme works out beautifully with the gold-accented paint, as it is laid out glowingly over a laser-straight body. Options on this gorgeous '78 include an updated AM/FM/Cassette stereo system, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, factory gauges, a clock, and a dual exhaust system. The car rides on some sweet-looking 15x8 factory-style "Snowflake" Firebird wheels on top of some great Toyo blackwall tires. This stunning Firebird runs and drives just as wonderfully as it looks, and it is sitting on our lot waiting for the next owner to let it back on the boulevard!

My mom had a 77 400 4 speed when I was a little feller (born in 77 ) and yes it was black on black the bandit ....took me to coco Beach and Disney land when I was 5 ...my dad's army buddy had a blue one and we went to Florida with the t tops out dqds buddy had a 4 and half year old little girl we talked all the way down from middle tn on the cb radios until we hit coco Beach....saw my first surf board threw my sleepy eyes ...what a trip ...what a memory ....thanks mom and dad
Awesome! My first car upon graduating HS was a ‘81 Z 28. Black with silver stripes. My dream car. I had two TA’s and two Formulas since. Always loved the ‘78 TA’s with the snowflake rims and the beak front end.
I own 1 , it's a 4 speed Q ball Hurst shifter , under the trans am emblem on the side , it says Hurst edition, 6,700 original miles
You're sure tough on the equipment, that clutch and transmission is taking a beating.
77/78 were the best 2nd generation, IMHO. Burt, Jerry and Jackie are all smiling down, standing at attention like a "possum's pecka" 🤘😎🤘
My opinion 70 to 75 are the best looking and best performing by far
1970- 1973 were the best looking of the 2nd gen. The best look of all Trans am the 1969 Convertible.
Looks just like my old car
Nice car at a fair price, thank you for sharing and the appreciation to your subs
I was thinking alittle over priced with that many flaws
@@tjanusz3 It s a good base but needs quite a bit of things .Interior ,a/c paint touch ups. I agree with you .
@@tjanusz3 like completely wrong decal on the hood
My all time favourite is the 1973 455 Pontiac Firebird Trans am super duty in white with blue Stripes 😃
73 should have a bird on the hood. 72 had stripes
Many don't know this, but the black and gold Trans Am came out before Smokey and the Bandit. i believe it was released in 76 to commemorate Pontiac's 50th "Golden" anniversary.
That's correct, 1976 had the first black and gold scheme in celebration. Even the Smokey and the Bandit cars were '76's, wearing '77 nose cones on account of the '77 not yet being available at time of filming.
@@car_ventures wow, i didnt know that
That is true. In fact, Hal Needham, the creator of the movie said that it was the Black 1976 100th Pontiac Anniversary Trans Am that he saw on a magazine cover along with his housekeeper stealing Coors beer from his fridge that was the inspiration for the movie. He said looking at that black Trans Am that Burt Reynolds qas going to be the Bandit and he was going to drive that car! 😎
I have a 1977 TA with 6.6 motor it is fun car to drive my engine has over 440 horsepower and 550 torque great street car
Which 6.6 there were 3 diffrent one the L78 400 Pontiac, the 403 Olds and the L78/ W72 Pontiac 400.
Years ago I was the only black kid at an all white daycare. One of the daycare workers was a lovely white woman with the perfect body, hair and... legs! One day she took me outside to go hangout in her car. This was the car she had! I was looking at the shape of the car, the bird (phoenix) on the hood, the wheels, the seats, the machined dashboard and her beautiful legs! I was overloaded with beauty! Haha the memories!
thats pure sexiness PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS ✌💖☮
Even when we are young boys; we appreciate all the beauty
@@josiahmoss3240Yes! Amazing what we can notice even at young ages
A daycare worker taking a child alone to "hang out"?
@SquirminHermanthe1eyedGerman Thank You, same to you!
No, not serious HP. But serious torque and handles much better than a 60/40 front/back should. Black is the best color.
In those days it was serious HP
If i was rich, I'd buy one
You don’t have to be rich to own one of these. Or to build one.
I won alot of races in my 78 blue 4 speed
It’s not a bandit edition but it’s a really beautiful machine. 78 blk 4spd/77 bandit nose.💪❤️Bandit editions don’t exist because I doubt anyone with a 76 SE is going to swap grills/nose with 77. Safe to say bandit tributes or bandit inspired….
Nice one Guys!
Beautiful car, but bird on the hood is from a 79 .
You have a POINT!!!
77 grilles incorrect
Too bad they didn’t put the correct year hood bird on when they repainted it.
My 78 has that bird on the hood.
I understand the bird switched mid year.
@@raymondlugo9960 but I think mine is an early model 78 because it has the Hurst T-Tops 🤷🏻♂️
@@kevincicero8352 Hurst tops came from one factory and Fisher tops came from the other in 78
As long ago as that was just put it together drink ice cold beer & a some hot a$$ women!!! Ohh & a def Leppard CD to jam 2!
the bird on the hood looks like it;s from a 79 .
Yep and doesn't look right on the 78 imho.
You could get snowflake rims on most Pontiacs , including Grand Prix, Bonniville, Sunbird , Grand am . Looks like you are missing the rock guard flares off the front.
Sweet I had brand new 1979 Z28
Me too & 80, 81 ,83, 86 iroc & bought my last new in 96 convertible. Ohh well those were the days. I will always miss the 70s & 80s! The beer was always cold & the women were always 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😆😆😆
@@tweedjohnny8740 definitely!!
Looks like the front end needed alignment. The steering wheel was cocked to the right when they were going straight.
This car has a 77 grille in 78 they changed to a diamond pattern 77 had the honeycomb
How much for that beauty.
Interstate '82 😎
I had one. Bought new. And I see it’s the 400. Not the 403 Oldsmobile engine they also used this year after they ran out of 400’s. How to tell the difference ? The scoop decal says T/A 6.6 on the 400’s. The 403’s said 6.6 Litre. I also had the Y99 package which gave you factory dual pipes the whole way through. My interior was in Tan and I deleted that God Awful hood decal from the order. Was it fast ? Not really. It was heavy and smogged up and by 60’s standards or todays, not that quick.
I was under the same impression. Maybe during some of the production they did do that..but from what I’ve seen, you really can’t tell by the shaker decal at all..there’s many that say T/A 6.6 that have the 403. And also a lot the other way around.
The only way to be sure is to get a look under the hood. The Olds has the easy to spot oil fill tube sticking up right of center front of the engine.
@@goodbonezz1289 just like that hUgE bird taking up the entire hood - wrong decal. best way is to just look at the engine itself. In particular where the oil goes in.
They still used the 400 until 1979, the 403 was just for Kalifornia! The base 400 also had the 6.6 LITRE decal, only the Pontiac 400 got the T/A 6.6 decal & chrome valve covers
@goodbonezz1289 in 1978 no stick was the stock L78 , the 6.6 litre was the 403 Olds , the TA 6.6 was the W72 , a lot of people put the TA 6.6 call out on the 403 and claimed it was a 400 W72 , W72 can be spotted really easily, chrome valve cover, and a wide flat air inlet in the breather box. The 403 has the oil fill tube in front of the shaker.
4 speed Trans ams sound way nicer when driving ie the gear changes n engine sound
That 2nd gear churp…gives me goosebumps
I don’t think that’s a Bandit edition. Yes it’s black and has the gold bird but it doesn’t have the gold stripes.
The bandit was a 76 with 77 nose..so technically no real bandit editions out . Just tributes
Best front end and power if got the w72 400 option rated 220 hp 345ft lb but realy were 280 hp so little tweaking people got 335hp with tune exhaust 4spd was a must I offcoarse the 1970 71 were the best looking but these 77 78 were 2and got one
The Smokey and The Bandit T/A's had bkacked out window molding front and rear as well as gold pinstriping around the windiows. The black spoilers in front of the wheels also had pinstriping so the car your advertising is not a true Smokey and The Bandit car. I know because I bought one in 1978.
They never said it was. They said same color as the smokey and the Bandit but never claimed it was a special edition.
He said, "like a Smokey and the Bandit." Like is the operative word here.
there never was a S&TB edition, lol
So you had the SE model which had all the gold striping
Correct your ad on your web page .The car has 17 inch wheels not 15 as you wrongly state in your ad.
Does this one have the L78 or the W72 engine?
All 4 speeds have w 72 .The chrome valve covers also are part of the w72 set up.
@@camirocz thanks for the information
@@camirocz you could get the w72 with an auto for a very short period.
@@frigglebiscuit7484 you could in 77and 78 not in 79
1974 455 SD is the best year
I’d go with the ‘73..like the front clip much better.
Bought a brown one brand new in 1978. Your screaming chicken doesn't look correct. Chick magnet of it's day!
Its got the wring bird on the hood. The bird faces the other way on the correct 77-78 Trans Am.
Wrong dash facia (should be the goldc facia on a true black and gold car) and gauges too. The headlight buckets on the 78 also had gold insects on them. Its not a bad looking car though, its the little things like these things though that'll ding the overall value of the car.
@@jrfairclough4291 the Special Edition gets the gold dash, pin stripes, German font for stickers... This is not a Special Edition.
JR YOU GOT THE SPELLING WRONG TOO
not if its a y88
HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW?????👁
That song always reminds me of Jonathon winters!
Grind me a pound on the shifting! Yikes!
Wrong bird & not Bandit.
Has the bandit nose
@@motodon5686 that’s the ‘78 font end & it’s not bandit paint scheme on grills insets either. Should be gold too.
@@bige2012 it’s a 77 honey shaped grill.technically octagon. The 78 grill resembles more X shaped which I refer to as the snowflake grill. I currently have a 78 with a 77 grill/nose that I swapped from my 77 to resemble the actual front view look of the bandit as well as the car was done in this video
That's sad somebody half ass done the paint
"You can drive this one anywhere?"
cant you drive any car anywhere?
I wish they would not always say Smokey and the Bandit Trans am, although it is easy to refer to as for the body style, This car is missing SO MUCH visually to call it a S & B car..The Bird(s) are not correct for this year. etc. etc. Probably a nice car, but not a 77 SE
This is a ‘78. But I do agree with you.
That headliner is sagging
Yeah headliner is great, if it’s not sagging and smacking your head it’s not original lol wtf
That's no 1978, it's 76 or 77.
Head lights are different for 76. 77 only had red Pontiac emblem on nose. This one has gold which means it's a 78.
It looks like a mixture of years; has the '77 grille (hexagon), the '78 Pontiac crest (gold instead of red), and the '79 bird on the hood and sail panels. I'm guessing the previous owner just put what he liked on the car when it was repainted, although the grille makes me think it was a '77, as it seems less likely that someone would swap these unless it had been wrecked and repaired.
The new bird design came out late 78. I think the gold emblem was only for Special Edition cars and red on others. This is not an SE car.
@@raymondlugo9960 you may be right about the bird, just seems strange they would change it mid-year. The '77 SE cars had a red emblem and the '78 SE cars had a gold one. Not sure about the non-SE cars in '78.
@@raymondlugo9960 I had the 79 SE but it tipped over six times. It was a beautiful car, 403 automatic.
No "T" tops, sux.
i guess good floor pans and dry seats suck, huh?
It must sux for you that you don't even own a ta
Yea but where's the turbos and goodies man? I had a 75 model silver with electric blue bird and silver true honey comb wheels. Had a 400 but it was a 69 ram air 400, 375 horses..the 400 that came out of it was like 230 horse or something like I forget. Had to have octane booster every fill up but I drove it to school every day and this was in 1989 and 1990. I wish I had it back now,. You can throw a turbo or even twins, have the heads worked on and change cams and bigger valves basically a new valvetain, and make crazy power supercar status without having a million dollars in it
there was no turbo engines on the 75 nor the 77/78
@@fixxforlife1569 I know that I said throw a turbo or twin turbos on it and a valve job plus even though I didn't mention it I would redo bottom end to accommodate the turbos
U didn't read what I wrote
