I've been testing a Cinelux Anamorphic (2x) system on my GH6; I 100% agree chonky is the name of the game with anamorphic lenses.
On the fence myself if I'd purchase another adapter style anamorphic such as this, it would be nice to test and compare of course. However long term I think I'm going to hold out (and save up) for a set of anamorphic prime lenses as adapter hassles can be quite pronouced as you pointed out in your video.

Great review. How did you find orientating the lens? was it easy? I have the original MFT Sirui's 1.33x - so thinking of either getting the Great Joy adapter or this for that extra squeeze! Would love to see a comparison between the Moment, the Sirui 1.25x & the Great Joy. The moment looks great and great for those L mount primes being 67mm but at a grand, it sure is pricy for an adapter!

I'm torn now. Wanted to shoot with a S5 ii + Helios 44-2 & Jupiter 8, but the vinetting you mentioned has scared me off. It would be nice to see exactely how much vingetting there is open gate, uncropped. I could bump up to a jupiter 9 or 37A, but it cuts down on available options. Might have to wait for the next iteration and hope it truely works with a 50mm on FF. Loved the review though! Very helpful and offered a lot to think about.

Great video, and a very honest assessment of the adaptor. There have been very few RUclips reviews on it so far. Looking forward to more test footage shot with it on MFT, so we can compare how it renders backgrounds compared to full-frame - I suspect that full-frame gives us more of that anamorphic ‘goodness’, but I’d love to be proved wrong!

I've watched this through twice now, as well as several other videos on this adapter. I've never tried shooting anamorphic, so I really like the idea that this is a single adapter I could easily throw this onto any of the Lumix 1.8 line of lenses, without any step down rings (67mm fits perfectly). Adding a cage isn't too bad of a tradeoff, but agreed it's an extra bit gear to carry around. Love the footage you showed! The results are beautiful!

About a year ago I managed to get Sirui 50mm anamorphic, and I specifically got it for shooting cosplayers.
Most portrait lenses "pop out" the subject, anamorphic lenses do exact opposite. Its heavy, its manual so If I want to get razor-sharp results i have to be really patient and use every focus assist available. Usually the images are really good, or not at all, nothing in between.
Unfortunately Olympus does not have de-squeeze in camera - i can get an external monitor for that, but... when desqueezed properly, its like getting free resolution from M43 sensor.

Fantastic video as always! Welcome to adapter anamorphics, there’s a lot of minutiae to really getting the most out of them. Focal length coverage is often about more than just the focal length. It’s also about how far back the aperture is from the anamorphic, and that varies depending on the optical design, but pancakes are a pretty good bet, because theyre obviously quite short, so the aperture is guaranteed to be closer to the anamorphic (which is more favorable for vignette.)
On a whole, the coatings on this Moment look closer to vintage than most of the other modern options out there in Adapter land, and I don’t know how they’re getting that much waterfall bokeh out of a 1.33X, but it’s actually got some decent ovals going on somehow.

    • @MicroFourNerds

I had been looking for one really good anamorphic lens for GH6. The constraints being reasonable size, weight and price without sacrificing quality, no complicated adapter and a 1.8 squeeze factor which seems to be perfect for m4/3 open gate. So far the Vazen 28mm is the only candidate but price is on the high side. Considering the very high cost of other anamorphic lenses it seems to be acceptable. Laowa Nanomorph was almost a great pick for the price but falls short being x1.5, Great Joy Anamorphic is also a great contender but too big. Hoping they release smaller size wide angle and that could be it. Thanks for the great video.

I agree Alex, 1.8x on GH6 would be ideal and I'm in the same boat (testing a Cinelux system, similar issues to this adapter). Vazen 28mm seems like the only real option as the 40 & 60 are massive.

Each to their own but I have owned several the Suiri lenses as well as Vazen’s 40 and 65 - and the Aiavascope 1.5x which in my experience has been the gold standard for anamorphic adapters.
The moment is actually much better than I anticipated and scratches 98% of the itch my Aivascope does for 1/3rd the cost.
I received the moment adapter 2 days ago and have been very pleasantly surprised. When paired with my vintage Leica Rs and Nikkor AIS lenses they produce a great image that does not detract from the original glass and stays pretty CA free at reasonable F/T stops. On modern glass I have been able to get down to T1.3 and still get critical focus with little to no CA or blooming highlights. The flares are complex yet not overpowering with nice secondaries and good texture unlike the atrocious ( IMO ) overwhelming tacky flares my Suiri’s produce, the flat, anamorfake looking uninspired flares that the Loawa’s generate or the too subtle and underwhelming flares generated by the great joys. Moment got this right.
At first I was a little underwhelmed when I heard the moment was only 1.33x which is a little light in squeeze but after shooting with it the last few days the elongation of the bokeh is a lot closer to what I normally find on 1.5x scopes.
The Moment clears my Leica R 28mm on my RED Komodo no problem and I get really nice results all the way up to 135mm. I’d say my favorites are the 35, 50 and 85mm focal lengths.

Thank you for the review. Since you were only able to test the adapter with open gate I wanted to let you and your viewers know that the vignetting also occurs on 16:9 footage with a 50mm lense on a full frame camera. I have tried my Sony A7SIII and even though Moment claims 50mm on full frame works it’s just not true. I went ahead and tested the adapter on my Red Komodo S35 camera. Moment claims 35mm lenses would clear on S35, but again I have to report, they don’t. Again I see very visible vignetting. I hope there will be quite a few more reviews coming who will give people a heads up on these issues.
