I wasn't the biggest INXS fan during youth. But today, their music delivers the feelings of 'the days'. Love that. Now I can't stop listening to them. Nostalgia man!
I am happy to have stumbled upon this video. Timeless band in a temporary world.
Michael was such a beautiful person. His passing really affected me. Shabooh Shoobah was the first INXS album I ever bought on cassette.
because you couldn't find the vinyl anywhere...?
...eye had a return trip from a week's work away with my dad in Plymouth on the south coast of england back up to Grimsby on the Lincolnshire coast in the late summer of '86. i had been hammering listen like thieves and the swing for a few months and a stint in the city gave me the opportunity to visit some decent shops. all i could find were the cassettes (my first - and still two of only a handful) of the first two albums (no cds back then), plus the vhs of 'the swing and other stories'. from this i heard with excitement for the first time 'the one thing', 'to look at you', 'the spy of love' and 'don't change', and i became obsessed with finding this missing album (no internet back then). my bus home stopped for short breaks in exeter and birmingham, delivering me to lincoln by late afternoon. i determined to use the half hour windows in the cities to sprint round and see if i could find it. exeter: no. surely birmingham... big hmv, big virgin megastore, our price.... no. so i sat glumly on a bus (!) heading into a darkening english autumn afternoon knowing i'd failed. the bus pulled into lincoln just after half 5, when most stores would be closed, but as i had a little bit of time to kill before my train, i thought i'd have a wander around the city centre, exploring the ancient city's narrow streets and steep hills. and there i saw it - a small independent record store, still open...
...i don't have a record player any more, and have only a tiny collection, but my copy of Shabooh Shoobah is with me 'til i die. i'd say it's their best album in terms of diversity, how well it stands up production wise (not a lot sounded good in '82, least of all 'proper' bands), but also maybe because acquiring it became the focus of my intention for so long. you can see in them here how exciting a time this was for them. still so young but right at the start of a serious trip away... RIP Michael x
Talent, natural, nice guys! Interesting to watch now, since then we were all young.
Thanks so much. What a gem. How wonderful to see them interviewed so young! Love it! How could this fresh faced kid have transformed himself into the sexiest rock god on earth and one of the most talented!

Wow, I can't believe I just found this. What a piece of rock and roll treasure. Thank you so much for sharing this with us all. Stuff like this is what makes digging around on YT worthwhile. Cheers!
I love how fresh and relaxed they are and, a bit not ready for prime time. i love how Kirk watches Michael and visa versa. RIP MH
No
Thanks Donnie, miss this great show. Good times.
Look how normal and natural these guys are....how times and music has changed and so manufactured...
Was thinking the exact same thing. You forget that interviews of this type used to be about the interviewee, not the interviewer. The rise of Letterman etc has led to the interviewer being a bigger star than the guest. It was great to see three blokes who love music just talking about music. You just don't see it these days.
22yr old Michael ❤️
not looking much older than 17 or 18 (what I thought)
The coolest thing about their songs, is that they sound as fresh now as then, and if you haven't heard "Welcome To Wherever You Are" and "Full Moon, Dirty Hearts," too. They were foolishly overlooked by a "Grunge" crazy public and music journalists. They've held up better than any grunge band except the only one that ever mattered anyway, Nirvana. And INXS was equal to that task, as well. They were a great band, underappreciated throughout. I wish I would have seen them live. They were great!!!
Full moon dirty heart was my fav
Times were so much better then. People acting naturally without having to put an act on.
Michael you are greatly missed:-(
Ocean View Hotel, Toukley, NSW, Australia was when I 1st saw these guys. Came for a weekend of fishing and ended up partying...awesome days!!
This one 10-minute conversation told me how Jan's Song (one of my faves) came into being AND foreshadowed their next album after Shabooh Shoobah, as well as their then first ever world tour. What an ultra-cool show this must have been. Many thx for posting!!
This interview just completes me.
They are talking about Shabooh Shoobah. Remember, this interview dates back to 1982. The Swing didn't come out until 1984.
Donnie Sutherland (interviewer) handed me a box full of BETA tapes of his show out in the city and in the middle of traffic.
All the tapes had dates on them. This came straight from one of those tapes.
How do you know Donnie? Is he still amongst the living? How amazing! Would be interested to see what else you have.
@@inikainika1523 Donnie is still with us.
Sounds like Donnie inadvertently gave them the name The Swing too...
@@gsly6585you caught that, too!
This interview is AMAZING!!! Thank you for uploading such a quality video😊
I got this from Donnie Sutherland (the interviewer/show's host), himself.
It is one out of a collection of shows that had been sitting in an old box, unseen and unplayed, for well-over 25 years. The tape of this program wasn't labelled, so we had no idea about the featured content until we played it. We didn't even know it was an early interview with INXS.
Thank you for sharing it :-)
Such precious memories.
Same fait happened while the ABC-TV worked on cleaning up their archive. A dusty old box with a reel-film was discovered in one of the store rooms. When played, a 1979 interview with a fresh-faced INXS had been unearthed.
Ammmmmmaaaaazzzinnnggg!!!!
Thanks soooooo much for posting it!!!
This is PRICELESS!!!
Miss you Michael!
look how standard and natural these men are. how moments in our generation are different, and how its created none meaningful music.
Yeah, in a time where people were more real. I encourage others to stand out and show themselves more often for their individuality. Come on out!
You need to get out more.. some of the best music I've heard was in the last 10 years.. and I grew up in the 80s
This was taped on my birthday.....sigh........
It was early days. I believe MTV would have just started playing 'The One Thing' video around this period.
Awesome- my fav incarnation of the band is “82
How cute, thank you, such a long interview too what a treasure!
This is gold 👌
What a great album
WOW, they are so young, how in the world did you ever find this. It's very good and has been added to my favorites, thanks for sharing
Kirk looks like a little baby 🥰🥰even now e still looks great for his age! He has good Gene's!!
Exactly! Love his look, charming personality and musical skills. Although I love Michael I think that Kirk is the most talented musician in the group and quite handsome as well ❤🕶😉
He was always so beautiful
Holy crap mike looks like he’s about 17?or 18!! Such a baby face

It's not up on youtube... I believe it was quickly taken and stored away in another place - probably digitally stored.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou welovedonnie! Hutch forever....
MH was better looking as he aged.
Wooo Hoooo.
@josiebaylis No... next thing that will be taken from our television, will be swearing and light adult humour....
Michael e KIRK ❤❤🇧🇷
Had to laugh at the "PGR" rating at the beginning. This would be G-rated stuff these days.
Kirk seems a bit high I think. He stares off into space at times.
He is so stoned lol
Mkultra
The thanks should also go to Donnie Sutherland and Frank.
I'd nvr seen gray teeth before...ty kirk
Yeah, I noticed that. Back in the day a number of people had bad teeth. We just overlooked it and thought to ourselves when they get the money they'll get em fixed.
No worries mate.
Once you wrote this comment you had to wait 10yrs for me to write this one😀
Shabooh Shoobah is an AMAZING album. Far more creative, consistent and interesting than Kick.
do they still drink and smoke on tv interviews now a days???
Unfortunately no☹
Ahh the old Benson and Hedges
Top shirt Donnie.
how cool, what a great surprise!!
is the ABC copy posted?
Which album are they talking about? The swing?
shabooh shoobah

nice burp Michael at 4.31 lol
DS...far less embarrassing than Molly M
Very, sad Michael didn't take financial care of his only child Tiger Lilly.
Michael thought he was investing for himself, his child, and his family. Unfortunately, he trusted a thief who hid it under various off shore shell corporations in his own name, Colin Diamond. CD has been living the good life on Michael's money in Bali. He can never go back to Australia without being arrested and charged.
Nothing you can say
Pengilly is out to lunch in this interview..... no focus whatsoever.
ehm... pardon me?
Enjoying there ciggies, acceptable then
look how standard and anti natural my comment looks.
Hot af!
@rydan2002 "get's loads of women" yeah great, because that's all that matters and everyone cares about that pffffff
What a great album
