I first saw John Cooper Clarke at Essex Uni in about 1982 or 81 even alongside Linton Kwesi Johnson. I had never heard of either of them at the time. Didn't realise I was watching history. I love both of them. I saw JCC again this week in Worthing, West Sussex, UK and he was better than ever at 74. I laughed throughout his performance.

Great interview... Genuine warmth and wit... Thank you. I went to tech college in Openshaw in the 80's. Scary place. Man City's new ground is near there now, area has changed beyond recognition.

What was wrong with the way Donnie did the interview? He allowed JCC to read out his poetry - he allowed JCC to answer the questions and JCC did return to Donnie's program a few times after this show. Donnie is one of the few interviewers in the Australian media who actually researched the artists, gave them respect and took a genuine interest in the artists he had on the show.
And knowing Donnie Sutherland, I think your comment is quite unfair.

These off the cuff intermezzos are even better than his official performances...We've got such a specimen here in Holland. "Jules Deelder"...Check him out,you won't be able to make sense of it though,it's all in Dutch ,but he came up in just the same "punk"period as Clarke.

He has done extensive work for charities... I doubt you've done as greatly.
He can say he is a survivor... I doubt you can.
He went out of his way to hand me the videos of interviews he did so I can put them on youtube... you haven't.
Artists like JCC returned to Donnie's show because they didn't see him as a twat... unlike yourself.
Re-think your silly comment about a man you haven't even met and quit being so judgemental and superficial.
There's something you can learn from 'T.W.A.T'!

I doubt you've watched Donnie's other interviews and have only made your judgement of him on the basis of this interview - which I see no fault with.
And quite interestingly, nobody else has made a negative comment about the interviewer except yourself.
Donnie had been through some very tough times after his television career ceased and it took him many years to get out of the rut he was in.
