    Your little blonde will evolve. My 14 yo blonde daughter was Christmas tree shopping with her little brothers and myself. We found the tree. No employees in sight. Daughter announced she would handle it. She stepped out to the aisle and raised her right index finger. Teenaged boys flock to help us. They tied the tree on top of our van. And that pretty much describes her life since then. Didn’t buy her own drinks. Can charm her way into airline upgrades. She limits her powers to her husband these days ❤️

      @@Marc-ox7fy, I've been in that predicament quite often myself. I do regular maintenance checks on our department vehicles, & we have an older 15-passenger van with the dipstick handle far in the back of the engine compartment, near the firewall at a 45 degree angle. The dipstick is about three feet long, with a spiral twist on the lower half, & as flexible as half-cooked spaghetti. In low light, or with sun shining in your eyes, it's almost impossible to see the tube end well enough to get the darn thing back in, plus it always wants to wave & flex all over the place. You usually wind up having to use your weak hand as a guide to get it inserted, & sometimes keep it from flexing while you push it in, so I always have to wear rubber gloves. And that's only on a cold engine, doing it while the engine was running or even still hot would be a seriously dangerous enterprise. I'm pretty sure that's been made much more user friendly on newer models.

      @hinoron6528 5 месяцев назад

      Well, there didn't used to BE a leash on it, OR a rack on the inside of the little door to hang it. For years, people unscrewed the cap, set it on the roof of their car, fill their tank, pay (or visa versa) and then get in their car and drive off. If they're REALLY lucky, they'll remember about the cap in time to drive back to the gas station and hopefully still find it on the ground somewhere. I once went back the following day, asked the guy behind the counter about it, and he pulled out a box full of them. "Toyota? Try this one. If not, maybe this one here."

    • @qdllc
      @qdllc 5 месяцев назад

      There are probably several valid reasons for why they provide a leash and the mounting bracket on the inside of the gas lid. First, cars have more sloped shapes, which makes it hard to keep a gas cap from sliding or rolling off somewhere. Second, many drivers, if they were to drop the cap, would be unsuited to look under the car and try to retrieve it. But most of all, third, I would say it’s because more and more cars have it so that if you do not put the gas cap back on, the computer will register an error because the cap serves as a way of preventing fuel fumes from escaping yet allows air in to keep the tank pressure equalized. Making it hard to simple replace the cap if it’s lost.

    Having more than once set the cap on top of the pump, pumped 35 gallons and during that time forgot what I had done with the capm and just drove off and then had to drive back to retrieve the cap, I do prefer the leash, especially now that I am actually old. Lack of cap memory once caused me to burn off two gallons of the gas that I had just bought because I had to cross a toll bridge 3 times in total before I could make progress on my way back home several states away.

      When I was a kid, I can recall seeing gas caps that had a somewhat "T"-shaped handle, & a slotted bracket on the inside of the fuel door to hold it. But that was forty-plus years ago, & I haven't a clue as to what maker may have done so.

    It is a scientific fact that when children hit fifteen, their intelligence drops by on average about 60%. And it does not rise again until their twenty-sixth birthday. The exact number varies by a number of factors, including a very minor (and highly debated) variable with sex, a bigger with hair color, and far more than any other, popularity. Unfortunately, being blonde manages to hit all of these simultaneously.

    I learned how to put gas in my parents' vehicles when I was about 13. Imagine being from one of those states that don't let customers fill their own gas tanks go to a state that is self-service and watch a teenager or even full adult try to fill their gas tank for the first time. The comedy would write itself.

    Young lady at work just got her first car...and had to call her mom to come get her the other day. You guessed it: she ran out of gas. It never crossed her mind to look at her dash display, or ask her parents anything about her car. She's clueless about cars, and is probably going to learn about them the hard way, by driving this one until it seizes. It's used, and paid for, but I don't understand how a car can be so critical and so invisible at the same time.

    My Dad had the opposite experience. I changed the gas & all of a sudden my Dad looked disappointed. It was then I realized he was filming. Confused I asked about it. He said “forget it”. After I finished & got in the car he asked “where did I learn how to do that?” Confused I just said “I’ve watched you do it for years.” Thinking it was a no brainer. Until I got to school and found out all my friends didn’t know how to change the gas nor where anything was in our town.

      That's some great parenting. More parents need to do that. There should be a basic safety and knowledge pre-qualification test on the basics (including actually changing a tire, successfully), before even being able to apply for a license to drive a car. There's too many clueless people on the road.
