- 5x8 foot trailer built on Harbor Freight 4x8 red trailer.
Budget DYI trailer built that finished under $2300.
Glue, paint, caulk cost around $500
Interior wainscoting paneling and pvc corner trim on exterior increased cost but made the trailer look great.
Interior black and white looks so nice.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks for watching
I had the same trailer about 15 years ago that my father helped me totally enclose. I ended up selling it later that year, though. I have the same one again now, but haven't done anything with it yet, but I do plan on it at some point, and want to use the foam like you did. Thanks for the video.
@@annwithaplan9766 thanks for the comment! I had a lot of fun building mine. Good luck with your build.
The red paint is flaking off the frame and rusting underneath after 2 years . Should undercoat when new and clean.
@@rex-x-rayband726 yea I usually try to undercoat. I’m going to do the frame in black completely.
Nice little camper. Good job, excellent budget.
@@sdnlawrence5640 thank you!
Nice job, looks great!
Thank you!
Nice dude! I'm torn on using foam like you did or just using plywood. I have the same trailer too.
@@F-N-C thanks!
Below is a link to one that I made with 2x2 and plywood.. that trailer was more of duty so I wasn’t worried about weight as much.
Either way both turned out good and I had a lot of fun building them.
Enjoy your build!

@@ostromadventures Sweet, thanks!
so wood glue will hold the foam to the wood easily? thinkin about making a camper shell for the bed of my truck out of foam and 2x4's or 3/4" plywood cut down into the dimensions I need since 2x4s seem to always be gnarly and never straight when I'm looking for them...
If you are gluing foam to wood original Gorilla glue works great. You can sand gently on the foam to rough it up a little and it will hold.

Looks pretty good, where did you get the tires from? And did you have to upgrade to a longer axle to fit? I have seen alot of people saying they had to upgrade the axle to fit larger tires for better clearance
@@juliansolomon855 I purchased the tires and wheels as a package off of Amazon. I did not upgrade the axle, just got 3/4” wheel spacers.
Thanks!
I'd get some bearing buddies and feel for heat on longer hauls. Nicely done
@@Nomaswearefull thanks I’ll check into that.
Appreciate it.
Pretty cool. I'm really curious about the foam panels. Are those just your regular foam panels that would be used for insulation? I can't believe they're strong enough for something like this.
Thanks, I am surprised how strong it is with the foam but it is super strong. I’ve taken it through ditches and driving on highway at 75 and there has been no flex or movement.
I did use more 2x4s for support then most that make these.
Northern Indiana (Laporte) as well. Where did you source the windows and door?
@@7996hobguy I tried to find him on Facebook marketplace again but couldn’t find the ad. If I come across it again I’ll send it to you.
Lucky in our area there are a lot of options with the rv manufacturers close to us in Elkhart.
I was at an rv surplus store in Orland Indiana last week and they had some good doors and windows.
It’s called Newsoms rv surplus. Facebook marketplace is great at finding parts.
Good luck in your search and have fun
Im in indiana also. What was the name of the place u got the doors and windows from?
@@jeremym3948 it’s a guy off of Facebook marketplace. I’ll try to find his name and forward it to you. It in Michigan about 30min north east of Michigan City, IN.
good craftsmanship

Do you know how much it weighs? This is awesome!
@@gilmerod8635 I haven’t taken it to the scale yet but I’m estimating around 700 lbs.
tongue weight is alittle to lite, will add spare tire to front to help weight it down. Right now I can lift very easy by hand.
Do you think 2x2s would work instead of the 4x4s?
@@richarde6911 yea 2X2 construction works fine
On another trailer build that’s what I used.

Where did you get the pvc trim?
Menards, it’s in section with outdoor siding trim. It worked really good it’s just alittle expensive.
What would you estimate the total weight to be
@@GutiTheJ 700-800 lbs
