Those exterior tables are a great design.
Very nice looking camper! You could probably slide it onto a trailerable pontoon boat as well, and do some water camping too!
Now there’s an idea! 🤔😎
Nice idea for the slide in camper part. Some one on the Tear Drop and Tiny Travel trailer forums ( TNTTT ) did one like that. His had some long rectangle boxes and wheeled trailer jacks that would bolt to the side of his camper. Front one stuck out a bit to clear the wheels. He just rolled it to and over the trailer and them lowered it with the 4 jacks. He would unbolt the legs and use 4 pins to hold down the camper and he was on his way. His was all so Orange in color lol .
Ingenious idea! It really makes me rethink my plans for making a camping trailer.
It was a fun project and truthfully, both unique and functional.
It was a fun project and truthfully, both unique and functional.
Awesome idea to use an existing trailer and just slide the camper-pod on/off. Keep up the good work =)
For us, camping 20 nights a year is a lot, so hard for me to justify an entire camper or even a second trailer for that matter. We love it. Thanks for watching!
Wow!!! That is Awesome and very multi functional. You can remove it and still use the trailer. That's very inspiring. Makes me feel like building one. Hahahehe thanks for sharing your invention. Thumbs up 👍 from NM.
Thanks for the thumbs up! This was an idea I had and I saw one other guy on RUclips that did it. Figured I’d take it to the next level. Thanks for watching!
AMAZING! LOVE IT! THANKS, ERIC A.
Very nice; innovative and simple!
I have a trailer similar to yours and was just thinking the other day I could potentially put some sort of livable unit on there to camp with, and here this video popped up. A very attractive/non cluttered looking design and my fav color. I think you were quite clever in the ease of functionality and the practical use of space. Love it!!!
Smart and ingenious ideas. Thx!
Great idea, looks good and easy to load/ unload. Really nice job start to finish!
Still looks great. Nice to pre check everything. ✔ thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing it provide more family memories
Thanks 👍
Awesome set up and build. Been thinking of doing something like this so I can still use my trailer for other things also.
If I understand correctly you built this or you bought this from a manufacturer? If you don’t mind me asking, what is the cost of a build like this?
suggestion: when you want to go out on an extended trip, I suggest you put a hitch on the BACK of your little truck.
There is a hitch on the rear of the pod. We use it for a bike rack or storage rack and then it’s used for removal of pod from trailer. Thanks for watching!
Great rig. I'am going to build a similar box 8' x 12' to go on my F-600 truck.
I've been thinking about doing this same thing on my car trailer to fill the front half so I can load a couple of dualsport motorcycles on the back. Nice work!!
Cool idea
Great set up! So much better than a mobile home or huge 5th wheel.
Brilliant. The missing link in my design for my home build utility trailer. Thank you so much. Lots of great ideas here. Really good stuff.
I like a tote that fits under the camper to put dirty clothes in,helps to keep the smell out and it stays even in windy weather if it fits kinda tight.
Subbed instantly, once I found your channel... Because of your build videos.
This is the kind of stuff I do as well.
I'll be reviewing your build videos.
Thanks for the uploads👍
Welcome aboard! Thanks for joining us!
Absolutely a great concept. I've wondered for years why some rv builder didn't jump on the idea of a camper to put on a trailer. Bet you could sell this idea in a heartbeat. Wish I had the expertise to build one ((plus the equipment etc). I have a 16 ft tandem wheel trailer that I would love to put one on. Kudos to you for your ingenuity.
Thanks Nancy! I had been thinking of something like this for a while. For us, we don’t camp a lot, say average 15-20 nights a year, and we just couldn’t justify a full blown RV for that much time. That said, my wife and I definitely wanted a nicer spot to sleep than a tent. We already had the utility trailer, as most folks do, so this idea was born. There’s one other fella on RUclips that had something like this when I thought of it. I contacted him and asked pros and cons and then got to work.
@@LivingOurAmericanDream1
Do it!
I also have a tandem axle car trailer that I've often thought about building a removable camper body to slide on, or off. It could be a 'toy hauler' style camper with a place in the rear to put a couple of ATV's, a golf cart, or a touring motorcycle into. The possibilities would be endless with 'slide on & off' accessories. Maybe a self contained dump trailer? A livestock type of body? V-bunks and rollers for a boat? I've seen a guy who put a plywood utility deck on top of his boat trailer to use for the summer while the boat was in a rented slip.
Wow, that's a really cool setup. I've been thinking about doing something like that for my 5X8 trailer & will definitely be going back to check out some of your other videos. Thank you for sharing & I look forward to seeing your future videos also.
Yes, watch the series playlist, several build videos there. Thanks for watching and good luck!
Love the concept! I had a similar idea using modular panels in an inclosed trailer toy hauler, on wall could be a workshop and another could be a sleeping wall with lighting and a Murphy or fold up bed. Great idea! 💡
this is a very cool idea-love your tables on outside
Nice video and now I'm thinking of doing with aluminium steel framing with 6mm thickness plywood and then going to put fibreglass outside walls and willing using different colour pvc sheets to make it more standout the way without feeling any cold airs coming through any gaps and willing bring it up with without using petrol generators so got better solution to use free power without plug onto house or accommodation it's saves money lot best ways to keep it safe touring
You need an adjustable and stable tongue stand to level your trailer and keep it stationary at your campsites. As always, looks great and functional living your dream.
Very cool modular idea! Nice work man!
Very clever!
Good idea for sure.
Awesome! Good job.
Very nice sir!!
Brilliant concept
What a great idea!
Absolutely love your idea and your camper. If I can without insulting you, offer you a separate idea from your turnbuckles? Have you ever considered welding another receiver on the back of that trailer and then forming a “u” type plug to go in both receivers and just pin them? that way you could use a locking pin and your camper would be locked from the back onto the trailer. Just a suggestion I thought of when I saw that receiver underneath your camper at the rear. This way you wouldn’t have to get down on the ground do the turnbuckle thing.
Guess he didn't like your idea due to the lack of response a month later
@@undertaker08441 I reckon not, heck, I thought it made sense and would have been easier and more secure.
Waterproof exterior?
@@Tripsolo65_ That's a great idea' I'de actually use Both' to keep it from any shifting on the road _ Imo! ✌️🇺🇲👍
I'd also pin the table props.
I am thinking about doing something similar - larger scale (16' trailer bed) and using truck camper jacks to lift the camper in and off of the trailer bed.
A car hauler trailer is better for this. If you haven’t purchased a trailer yet. It tilts and loading and unloading is quick and easy
This is slick - nice to see someone who thinks like me. I have a dandy 5x8 (with a 5x4 ramp) homemade utility trailer that I want to keep as a utility trailer, so being able to remove the pod is my idea too! The deck is expanded steel, so I'm not sure skids would be the way to go for my application.
Oh and, anyone who says "must be nice" to have the things you have, obviously doesn't possess the drive to hustle and grind for the things they want!
Well said! You could plan on rolling your pod onto the trailer using steel conduit or similar. Just need a way to get them out when it’s in position.
@@LivingOurAmericanDream Pod like an Egyptian LOL
Aluminum would have been much lighter
Not the first execution of this concept I've seen but yours is terrific and it is simple. Love the modularity of it. Two trailers in one. One point of concern, although your arm is exposed to potential danger only very briefly, is when you run the short sling over the squaredrop steel brace. You've more than likely made allowances for this (like resting the front of the camper body on the tail of the flat trailer) but from where we sit it's a tad sketchy. Otherwise! you have a great rig. Love your shop, love your channel name. God bless you and yours. Safe travels.
You are correct, the pod sits on the back of the trailer at that point. Additionally, I’ve since added a steel eye hook to where I can simply hook the winch cable directly, faster, safer. Thanks for watching!
logical progression of information and good camera use. Have fun thick i may copy you with a build.
Thank you!
Love it 👍👍
Very nice!
I wanna do this but a bit different. My trailer is a 6x12 and I wanna do a toyhauler build so I can trailer by bike from time to time. So that means a rear door about 36-40 inches wide to get the bike in and out. Awesome build my friend.
Nice, I like that idea. A customized, toy hauler squaredrop pod. Excellent idea.
You could add 4 large refrigerator roller wheels underneath and make it easier to roll on and off your trailer
This video is great! I have a 5'x11' trailer that I have been wanting to make into a camper. Your idea would work very well. Thanks.
I’m glad these videos are inspiring folks to try a project like this. Easy to build and customizable to whatever you want! Get after it and enjoy! Thanks for watching!
Very cool .
cool everything but the tie downs I would have to do some changing there
Keep watching the more recent vids, new design on that attachment method, much better than the cables.
This is awesome.
Thanks!
Gran trabajo
Have you considered a dado groove in the skids and casters that have maybe 1/4 inch exposure, for it to roll forwards and backwards on and off the trailer? With the sturdy tie downs it should change anything except air gap under the skids and keep that dry. Then you wouldn’t need a winch..
Also 8 inch pvc x 6 ft long, cap both ends. One end get a valve stem up top and hose faucet bottom of the cap. And a fill cap on top. 5 psi for pressurized air. Painted black for really hot water.
I put wheels on the rear corners of mine for east roll off.
Cool trailer. Subscribed!
👍🏻
Im thinking Something similar. Make a "camping Box" to put on a trailer i have. Something i can use "Temporarily" and still use my trailer as needed.
I love what you have done and your methodology. After building and using this pod style, what would you think of a build allowing 6' of interior headroom?
Way cool.
I would add caster wheel to load easily
Was thinking the same thing to do to my utility trailer but the box having rollers that will roll on the top of either side rails
Cut 2 holes in the front of your trailer. Add a caster on each side of front of pod. Then just push the pod on using casters and your dolly till the casters fall in the hole.
so you are saying you can load it on the trailer without the trailer being hooked up to a vehicle? that would be a fun video to watch
Great work
get you some small conduit or pipe, put under CAMPER floor on trailer and roll it in
I thought about that but there’s the issue with getting that conduit out once the pod is in the right position.
Where did you get your doors. I don’t think I want to try building them. I like the look of your setup.
Like this!! Where did you get the door and window inserts?
Just stayed at Maple Bay on the NW side of Burt Lake, nice rustic camping. Really like your build but I’d have to add a grab handle to make entry/exit easier on me.
This is really cool! Do you offer plans for this camper?
Just thinking ... not sure it would work ...
If you were to build a shell that would cover the entire camper. When parked raise the shell. Now you have a extra bed room. Maybe a rope ladder on outside.
When time to leave drop the shell.
Just thinking ...
Beautiful outfit.
Thanks for sharing
Have you integrated trailer stabilizer legs?
I was thinking about doing the same thing for a hunting camp. I only go once a year. Great job.
I love it! How much for one?
Where did you get the doors and windows?
What's the manufacturer of that awning and how do you have it mounted on your camper?
I really like this. Make use of a trailer x 2. Did you have to register/title/license the camper? I would think not since it isn't permanently attached with the trailer.
No, just registered as a utility trailer.
I really appreciate you sharing your video and design. I noticed as with my own trailer frame that I'm designing a camper pod for, you have some stake pockets too. I'm considering anchoring my pod using removable 2x4 stakes. Did you already consider this approach? What steered you away from it if you did?
How do you get it off the trailer?
Very nice. Any idea of what the tongue weight is if you put the front wheel on a scale?
I’d guess the tongue weight around 100 pounds or so. I can lift it by hand, heavy but I can do it.
Stilts Bro Stilts🙏
I have a small 12 ft by 5.5 ft with a 6.5 ft ceiling cabin on 3 rows of 4 x4 green treat and I have a metal bar similar to yours there but i also have one in the back and down the middle , I ran 2, 12 ft 3/8 in log chain. so when I do winch and yes I winch with a motor, lolol, on and off the pull is equal from front and back. , 90 % of the time i just leave it on the trailer but i have also drug it across fields before during deer season with the truck and it works just fine.... However, my floor, 12 x 5.5 is almost 800 lbs with wall and ceiling weight about 400 lbs. i built the floor stupid over kill just for this pull around the fields and keeping low center of gravity. lets just say, there is no flex and i mean no flex at all in the flooring. and if i level it in the field, i just use my handy man jack and block or shim accordingly, i love the thing. works very well. its also 100% off grid.
Need D ring to pull from buddy
😂 immediately after this video published I added a 1/2” threaded hook to the underside of the pod for direct hookup of winch line, no more strap. We’re on the same page! Thanks for watching!
Very nice build.
Where did you take it in Florida?
Vero beach
What size trailer is it and demention is the camper thank you?
Trailer is 5x10. Camper pod is 5x10x5 tall
How do you unload by yourself?
what is the outside material? fiberglass sheets?
Exterior is colored truck bed liner.
Me piece of 3/4 screw pipe lay under it will roll like butter no coke along necessary
Thought of that and great idea, though how would you propose removing the pipe when the pod is in place?
How much does this weigh?
Nice set up I have a 5’x10’ trailer I was thinking about doing the same thing. If you don’t mind me asking, How much did it cost you to build it?
I have a few cost videos out there but I believe around $3k for the pod (box) not including the trailer.
why didn't you just add 4 outside legs? drop down pull the trailer out. could have them line up with brackets on the trailer frame and just drop 4 post in to connect it.
Those are expensive
How much does it weigh and also have you tried it in the winter ?
2300 pounds loaded. The coolest we stayed was low 40s Fahrenheit, no problem at all keeping heat in there with two adults body heat. I’m sure getting into the 20s you may want a diesel heater or something.
U could have extended the cabin longer into the front over the front rail 2 feet....
Cool idea
Weight..?
About 2500 on trailer.
5x8..?
5x5x10 is the pod overall dimensions.
RUclips University. I can do anything with a click of a button.
That’s not untrue…
How long can a sort of minimalist style camper be without being so heavy that you need a truck to pull it? Thanks.
Had the same idea for years for a removable camper, but who came up with the stupid ass name of square drop
😂 I did, thanks. I had a ton of people giving negative feedback because I referred to this as a teardrop alternative. Then, to be a smart ass, I picked squaredrop and it stuck. Glad you approve 😏
That's a lot of work. Not sure it would be worth it. Very nice camper, though.
I love the camper but how did you get so bald?
