I would also choose the SKS for survival, easy to use, easy to clean, very strong & reliable, you don't have to carry magazines, just ammo clips in a bag, and you always have a bayonet.😎👍
I hope that none of us ever finds ourselves in a survival situation. But I agree with you. Here in canada , the obvious first choice would be the SKS. It's simple, rugged, reliable, easy to sling, and cheap enough for the average person to own more than one. It shoots a very effective intermediate range caliber, and it will function properly in any climate extreme with minimal maintenance. Just a great general purpose rifle.
SKS is a good choice for a rifle. I have both Chinese and Russian ones. For me it's a toss up between the SKS and Mossberg 500 or Maverick in 12 gauge. Using shotgun or slug loads you can harvest any game. Ammunition is everywhere for the 12 gauge and no one doubts its ability to protect your family.
Whether you grab your SKS or your shotgun , you can't go wrong. Here in canada , we are not allowed to protect our family with firearms. But you can use either one to hunt for food effectively, and they will both provide protection if you are up north in Bear country. As you indicated, the shotgun is more versatile for hunting though.
Great rifle and you can buy a kit to get rid of the wood and use 30 round magazines, some of the Chinese models you need to put the spring kit in the firing pin because you have full auto if it sticks until the magazine goes empty. Great choice for a survival rifle and it will take down anything you might need to take down and they are more accurate than an AK47. Might be handy to have a 22lr pistol with you for small game in case you're out there for a while.
Yes i know i can get the kit but in Canada the magazine has to pin at 5 rounds. Most definitely a 22 would be handy for small game. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching
@@jahunterplus415 Despite the restriction on your magazine it still gives you a collapsible stock, pistol grip and a picatinny rail for an optic and you still have your mechanical sights, besides in a real SHTF situation you can always pull the pin. When you're as old as I am optics become a necessity because your eyes don't work like they do when you're young. Food for thought, the third largest grizzly ever killed was killed with a single shoot rifle using a 22 short. Don't know what restrictions you have up there for pistols, but it sure is handy to have one with you. Take care up there brother, it's a crazy world anymore wherever one lives. Getting worse down here in the US every day.
I agree with SKS for here in Canada. Great video, thanks for sharing
