Your site has been SO informative to me. Medicare seemed to be such a maze of info and difficult to understand but the way you simplified it was so helpful and spot on. Julia Jones called me, walked me through my options and she and Keith Armbrecht have really worked to open up and streamline the process that our government has weirdly made so difficult for years and years...
Simple fact: regular medicare part F, G or N are much better than an advantage plan which is basically a private insurance company MANAGING your health and FOR PROFIT... Thank you guys!!

I have been in Advantage for seven years. I'm in San Diego with Excellent healthcare choices. I had a bout with cancer and that included radiation therapy. I max my out of pocket that one year, $3400. I saved 20 thousand in the other six years. My Advantage plan has been dropped by my provider so I'm faced with some interesting choices. One of them is Advantage with a new provider at even lower cost. So I either start paying 300 a month for the same quality of healthcare as I get for a plan that is 750/yr. max out of pocket. I do have to give up my care team in favor of a new care team. My new Medigap would be a guarantee issue with no underwriting.

My first year in Medicaid and Humana Medicare Advantage has been great. I have not had any problems with referrals or getting the treatment suggested by my doctors. My total out of pocket this year is about $160. And just about every provider around here is on the plan.
However I do see where that is not everyone's experience with Medicare Advantage, and certainly I do not have any major health issues. If I fell and broke my hip and needed a month in a skilled nursing home, what would happen then? I hope I never find out, but that is the situation where these Advantage plans seem to fall short.
Bottom line, this is open enrollment period and I'm not leaving Humana Medicare Advantage for 2024. Did I make the right choice? Time will tell.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Medicaid and Humana Medicare Advantage, we appreciate your input! It's great to hear that you haven't encountered any issues with referrals or getting the suggested treatment from your doctors. It's also fantastic that the plan has a wide network of providers in your area.
Considering your concern about major health issues, it's important to be aware of the coverage limitations that some Medicare Advantage plans have, especially when it comes to situations like extended stays in skilled nursing homes. These plans may have certain restrictions or require additional costs for services beyond a certain duration.
As for your decision to stick with Humana Medicare Advantage for 2024, time will indeed be the ultimate test. It's important to regularly review and reassess your coverage to ensure it continues to meet your needs and suits your individual circumstances. If you run into any questions or need assistance in the future, our channel is here to provide information and support. Thank you again for your comment and we wish you continued success with your healthcare choices.

I have changed from advantage to g supplement, but I'm still second guessing myself. I gave up $0 deductible, $0 prescriptions, dental, vision and hearing. $120 a quarter for OTC, $100 a quarter for co-pays. It costs me $195 monthly for the similar coverage now with no perks, I now have a deductible, and that premiums can increase twice a year.

    • @marinablueGS
      @marinablueGS Год назад

I have yet to see any of these guys that are promoting original Medicare mention the extra costs involved. It's not a valid comparison until they mention all the costs for the same coverage. As you said, $0 premium for the Advantage plan, $0 for the meds I take, $0 for routine medical, dental, and vision procedures, plus OTC allowance, hearing aid allowance, Silver Sneakers, etc. This guy mentioned a cost for a supplement plan and ignored the rest. If you are reasonably healthy and your doctors and in the coverage area, the Advantage plan is the way to go. The risk is you don't know if or when you might incur some serious surgery or have a serious illness and have to pay those relatively high out pocket expenses. You weigh the risk and you make your choice.

The comment below does not make sense. The Medicare Supplement is to save people money and not empty out their little savings if they should have one should a big emergency should arise. Certain plans do pay the 20%. You certainly have a choice to purchase the G Plan without the high deductible and fits like a glove with Original Medicare. Please don't blame the insurance companies for what you do not understand. Medicare is a vary layered topic.

There is a lot of stuff you don't know. Like your application for Gap can be rejected by the Underwriter for something as incidental as prescribing a nebulizer and, at that point, the salesman that was your best buddy and close advisor, suddenly disappears and leaves you holding the bag of what to do next.
The premise that you might want to get out of Advantage to go back to original Medicare is simply false. Advantage plans have out of pocket limits while original Medicare charges you 20% to infinity. Original Medicare does not offer eye, drug and dental care while many Advantage Plans bundle them in the plans.
The Gap plans are designed to make money for the insurance companies and that is what this salesman is selling.
The salesman talks about 100 dollar Gap Plans. What he didn't mention is that those high deductible plans do not cover Medicare premiums and deductibles:
Gap Offers a “high-deductible option” for Plans F or G. If you buy Plans F or G with a high-deductible option, you must pay the first $2,340 of deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance not paid by Medicare before the Medigap policy pays anything. You must also pay a separate deductible ($250 per year) for foreign travel emergency services
Your bottom line is that you pay 1200 dollars for a year of insurance and then the 2590 before the insurance starts paying. You are on the hook for about 3800 dollars a year in doctor and hospital bills before you ever see a doctor. And, we didn't even get to the drug coverage you must now buy from Medicare Part D. This gets complicated and revolves around how long you had Medicare and did not purchase Part D and how much income you make. The lowest of this expense is 400 dollars each year.
We are now at 4200 dollars YOU are paying every year before Medicare and Gap pays a penny of your Healthcare. Consider how many Advantage Plans have an out of pocket limit of 4500 in network per year for zero premium, you can see why many go the Advantage route.
These people are out to make money. And this is how they do it.

Think about this. Your Medicare coverage costs the US government about $10,000 per year (guesstimate). If you choose an Advantage plan from Aetna for example, the government gives that money to Aetna. To make money Aetna needs to give you a plan worth $8,000 from an actuarial sense. It cost less because they will deny your prior authorization, referral, etc. Advantage plans are great if you know your will never be seriously ill.
