The little old lady from Pasadena
Go granny, go granny, go granny go
Has a pretty little flower bed of white gardenias
Go granny, go granny, go granny go
But parked in her rickety old garage
Is a brand new shiny red Super Stock Dodge
And everybody's saying that there's nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard
It's the little old lady from Pasadena
If you see her on the street don't try to choose her
Go granny, go granny, go granny go
You might drive a goer but you'll never lose her
Go granny, go granny, go granny go
Well, she's gonna get a ticket now sooner or later
'Cause she can't keep her foot off the accelerator
And everybody's saying that there's nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
She's a terror of Colorado Boulevard
It's the little old lady from Pasadena
~Instrumental~
Go granny, go granny, go granny go
~Instrumental~
Go granny, go granny, go granny go
The guys come to race her from miles around
But she'll give 'em a length then she'll shut 'em down
And everybody's saying that there's nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
She's a terror out on Colorado Boulevard
Was lucky enough to have lived in the day when these guys (& the Beachboys) were knocking it out of the park on every song. Driving around in your wheels, blasting these songs on the AM radio in the car, driving thru the local food places (Manners for us), squealing tires ... those were fun days.
Cleveland area?
You must be from Cleveland. Our family left when I was 12, but I went to Manners as often as I could (or could talk my Dad into taking me) - loved those Big Boys!
Jan and Dean are one piece of proof that the American Rock scene stood up extremely well to the British Invasion.
Well? No contest. The Invaders should have stayed in Britain
If they'd hooked up with Flo and Eddie maybe.
@@upthedownescalator630 You took down my comment but I still stand by what I said Jamie Nobody. Censoring anyone with an opposing viewpoint certainly exhibits a mature attitude.
It's supposed to be a forum to exchange views. I said nothing derogatory. You're a thin skinned little boy.
What killed this fun time was when long hair free love drugs and Woodstock all 50s style and music went to hell in a hand basket and rebellion and going against the establishment was in and music changed just ask Gary Lewis he went to Vietnam in 1966 came home in 1969 and this music was gone so he opened a record store in California
@@sheddski2942 Unfortunately what's going on today is even worse. This world is out of control and totally dysfunctional in every way shape and form. And it will ultimately lead to our demise. Well, not mine because I'll be dead by then. However, this current generation is in for a rude awakening down the line.
Let's disarm the police, let men use the ladies room, and let women use the men's room. Better yet, leave birth certificates blank until the child is old enough to determine what sex it identifies with 😂
I'm laughing, only it's not a joke. Those are the kinds of things this generation is proposing. Good luck snowflakes, don't say I didn't warn you when the s*** hits the fan.
What a great duo!! I love all their songs. We lost Jan much too early... RIP Jan
This brings me back to simpler times, where music was good.
Yes, and did you notice how the audience can behave?!
When music was fun! Brought a smile. Not the same anymore
Couldn't agree with you more..miss the old days..
It still does
ALl mUSic iS TerrIBle NoW. every SiNgLE SoNG Is GArBge.
Molly J Why is that? No one will say
happy music. These were songs I grew up with. Nice to be hear happy music during this miserable time of covid, fire, and trumptard.
Their music was such fun. They were great innovators in the studio. Should be in the R&R Hall of Fame.
Horseshit
They really should
Their records benefitted big time from the instrumental excellence of the Wrecking Crew.
Let's just bring back the good old days when we had soda for a dime and we had lots of oldes on the radio and we had lots of fun..
Amen let’s go back 😢
Saw them in the 80s. The crowd that night stood up from the 4th song, started dancing and didn't stop until after the encore.
These 2 guys are the essence of early 1960s LA cool. Sadly it didnt last long.
I'm saw em in 82.
I'm the little old man from So Cal now....71 years old...this song never made me tear up before...
I agree. They should be in the Rock n roll hall of fame. They should have been inducted a long time ago.... Way overdue.
Big time. Along with the Beach Boys, they launched a musical genre. Started with surfing and smoothly morphed into wheeled vehicles (Sidewalk Surfin, 409). One of the most amazing things - most of their music was done as a hobby while they were students - Dean Torrance as, I believe, a USC undergrad and Jan Berry at UCLA Medical School. Jan Berry - Rest In Peace. Dean Torrance - Rock On.
Right on.
It doesn't matter. That organization is little more than an ol' boys club with no public mandate and no more authority to operate in that capacity other than that which they bestowed upon themselves. Jan And Dean don't need a pat on the head from them to affirm their considerable merit as artists and visionaries.
Jan and Dean always put on a good showsAnd the people backing them up on this performance were members of the wrecking crew who were in the studio When they record is this
MikeBlitzMag yep, there’s a whole bunch of groups and individuals that should have been inducted years ago. Just look at the sorry or inconsequential people currently in the hall. We could all name ten off the top of our head.
Yep, those were great times & now I'm a granny. Love Jan & Dean always have always will. "1964 I wish"
The public is fantastic!!! Hi from Ecuador 🇪🇨
From my high school days in the early mid '60s, how sweet it was...
Jan and Dean brings highest level of Summer Love they should be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the best artist and composer of the fabulous rock and roll Long Live Jan and Dean
On this day in 1965 {July 15th} Jan and Dean performed "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena" on the ABC-TV week-day afternoon program 'Where The Action Is'...
Exactly one year earlier on July 15th, 1964 the song was at #6 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eleven days later on July 26th it would peak at #3 {for 1 week} and it stayed on the chart for 11 weeks....
And on the same 'Action' show the duo also performed "Sidewalk Surfin'"; eight months earlier on November 29th, 1964 it reached #25 {for 2 weeks} on the Top 100...
R.I.P to William 'Jan' Berry, who passed away on March 26th, 2004 at age 62 and 'Dean' Ormsby Torrence celebrated his 75th birthday this past March 10th {2015}...
I first heard this song in the 1990s. I listened to it on my Sony "Walkman" when I was commuting to work on the subway from Astoria to Manhattan. I also listened to it when I took a bus to visit some friends from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts.
1964 was a great year to be young!!! I was 11 and all this great music was bursting out everywhere!!! And for a young boy all the westerns and spy shows were great too.
I was 10.
Jan & Dean belong in the Hall of Fame.
I mean, come on.
Legends of surf and creators of new sounds that made history.
Not to mention many hit songs and a comeback that is historical.
There are acts in the HOF that did not do half that much.
J&D = HOF.
George Vreeland Hill
Jann Wenner is primarily responsible for the exclusion of Jan & Dean. Yet Grandmaster Flash and Cat Stevens got in.
Loved these guys since I was a kid , had a Radio Shack compilation album with them and The Beach Boys , remember the first time I saw Deadman's Curve, not bad , but could be a cool remake. My older brother picked on me for this - I ragged on The Who ! All within 2 years both favorites on my list forever !!!
But , to my credit and taste , was happy to rub it in his face that Moonie loved surf music , not to mention The Who covered 'Bucket T'!
Exactly!hi agree i live 15minutes from the rock n roll Hall of Fame. I've not been there for those same reason
We need to wrest control of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame out of the hands of Jan Wenner and the Rolling Stone magazine leftist bunch and give real rockers the recognition they deserve!
I have fond memories of this song; my Dad, my kid sister and I would all sing the song together when it came on the radio. I was 11 years old, my sister was 5! It was a fun song.
This is a film clip from The T.A.M.I. Show, October 1964, at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. I was there in the front row on the right side and saw the whole awesome show! Wish they had filmed it in color!
+Dejael Long yead sure you were...geez!
+Beatles4ism Yes I was there, and I knew Jan & Dean personally then, and they left me a ticket at the will call window so I only had to pay half price. I was 17 years old then, and this was one of the highlights of my senior year in October 1964. I met a friend there, named Mark Groseclose, who was the substitute drummer for The Beach Boys, and he took me backstage and introduced me to them there, and I was able to greet Jan & Dean backstage also. True story!
+Dejael Long My mom always brags about how she had them autograph her shoe!! I don't know where exactly--somewhere in Wisconsin, though^^
+The Beatles Why do you find that so hard to believe? With a name like "The Beatles" you were either old enough to have been there too, or should understand that people did things before you were around. Speaking of The Beatles, my father saw them in while he was stationed in France BEFORE they came over to the US. What's so hard to believe?
was the screaming thing real or added effect?
Classic from the 60's by Jan & Dean,..still love hearing this today, but now I'm that little old lady!!!
But do you have a brand new shiny red Super Stock Dodge?
Go granny go, go granny, go granny go👵🚗........!!!
(sorry, limited choice of emojis😳)
I can't believe they're not in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame!!!
good point
they don't use auto tune. It's obvious, they don't even lip-sync! There's literally no reason why Jan and Dean aren't in the rock & roll hall of fame.
so many pioneers not in ,but we must keep movin for new talent in the music
why not? Do they play instruments? They were SO MEDIOCRE u musical moron
Arty Sal I can!
Loved growing up in the 60's. Jan & Dean and the Beachboys! Made me love music. Started playing drums in '66 and had a band in '67. Good times.
Cali Beach sound evolved into the la sound..NOTHING BETTER!
I'm 32 and I still can't understand why eveybody loved the beatles over Jan and Dean and The Beach Boys? This is harmony in my opinion!
Ag..reed, the Beach boys were too slow
not many people realised that Keith Moon of the Who was a great Surf Rock fan, and indeed his group before the who was a british group that covered jan and dean, beach boys, etc. There are recordings on youtube of the who covering the jan and dean song Bucket T. When the Who are covering your music, you must be doing something good:)
I don't understand it either.
What a great sound. I really wish I’d been there to see it, but I was only ten years old and living in South East London.
The little ol lady from Pasadena Texas passed me on Beltway 8 a few weeks cranking about 100 mph in a Challenger. You go girl.
AWESOME! My grandfather told a joke once about a cop who pulled a ninety year old woman over for speeding. She said she was just going with the flow. He said, lady, you weren't going with the flow. You were leading it.
Jamie Anybody You got that right Jamie, good one.
@@LyndaWhite-ju1gj Gotta love those old ladies who will NOT stop living. They're all awesome
Jamie Anybody You bet more power to them, they rock.
@@LyndaWhite-ju1gj Yes!!
From the T.A.M.I. Show, featuring most of Rock's top names of the time, and providing a record of how Southern California's youth looked in 1964. One of my favorite songs of all-time; I must have driven my parents half-crazy playing it so much on the hi-fi. I was such a fan of Jan and Dean, that I had my mother buy me a striped shirt like the ones they're wearing here. I was at Jan and Dean's "second" comeback concert (which really was their first true comeback--no lip-synching) at the Starwood on Santa Monica Blvd. around 1977. They came down a short stairwell, Jan using a cane. They were well-received, and Jan sang pretty darn well, considering how much damage his brain incurred in his 1966 car accident. Towards the close of Deadman's Curve, the music stopped, and Jan said, "I came back from Deadman's Curve," with the crowd going crazy. I had the chance to later see them in (appropriately) Pasadena for New Year's Eve and in my home town of Glendale at its yearly car show (as well as the honor to be part of their security team at another Glendale car show, which allowed me see them backstage).
I thought I recognized it from the T.A.M.I. Show. Some friends and I got my Mom to take us to the Shrine Auditorium where we could see the film of the show. (It was the only place big enough to accommodate the audience that wanted to see it.) My poor Mom - she put up with so much during the 60s!
when they show the crowd, that is the best part, look at all those happy faces. loud and live rocknroll!
Jan's father, William L , was an aeronautical engineer, who worked for Howard Hughes as a project manager on the Spruce Goose. He flew with Hughes on its only flight.
Actually, Jan & Dean were successful recording artists BEFORE the Beach Boys. They had several hits in the late '50s and early '60s before the Beach Boys made it big. Heart and Soul, Jenny Lee and Baby Talk just to name a few.
Yes they were! I have always loved this song!
Jan & Arnie recorded first, then Dean repeated the recordings.
Classic California music 60's 💖🎶🎵🎶💙☀️☀️
Great classic music. I saw them in concert. Great show.
watching the kids have Fun is GREAT they had a ball good stuff guys
That's was my mom's favorite song. Oh, What memories
Oahu, Hawaii
My high school girlfriend's grandmother had a Buick Wildcat with a 454 - I always thought of her as the little old lady from Pasadena - lol.
Jan, such a genius. Always will have a special part in my heart... RIP
I still Love their music, what happened to Jan Berry was and still is very sad. May They Both Rest In Peace knowing that they are very dearly missed. God Bless You.
Dean is still alive in 2019
@@pgood2124
And still alive 10/26/2020
Still alive 7\3\2023. Believe he is 82 now?
What a tragedy with Jan, imagine what great music they would have made if not for the accident. But what they did make lives forever. By the way, if you have not seen this show, the TNT show, get it, it is absolutely fantastic with all the great stars from this era.
still a Classic .
I saw Jan and Dean in Seattle. I really enjoyed the concert. Good haromy and a lot of energy.
Love this tune. Makes me think of my 90-yr-old mom driving her red 94 Plymouth Duster with the V-6 (really it's just a Dodge with Plymouth badging!)
Just sad that they are gone now...loved their music...Its pain to lose a brother...I know as it happened to me...
Real music and singers!
Thanks for the upload - lov it
and a BIG HIGH 5 for Jan & Dean music
Watching from Australia
STILL WATCHING IN 2021 !!! GREAT STUFF ! FROM U.K
God Bless All The Detroit Teams In The Whole Wide World Of Sports In🇺🇸The🇺🇸United🇺🇸States🇺🇸Of🇺🇸America🇺🇸.
Isn't it interesting how what young people consider to be cool changes from generation to generation? Can you imagine any of today's singers standing there like that, bobbing up and down? The same is true for dance styles. From the Charleston to the Cha-cha to the Twist to the Snake to the writhing bouncing to the beat of house music, one era's alluring sexy moves becomes another era's laughing stock.
Oldies are the best hands down 🙌🏽🤲🏽
In 1963 when Jan Berry began collaborating in his songwriting with Brian Wilson, Jan & Dean took off to superstardom with numerous chard busting singles. Jan's falsetto and studio wizardry along with the excellent material made for great listening in the mid 60's. The best way to listen is by using the original mono releases. The complexity of Jan's production work is truly outstanding.
I knew Dean Torrance while in High School. We where De Molays at L C Kelly chapter.
Love these guys. They always reminded me of the beach boys for some reason.
That lil old lady had one bad Plymouth with a 413 n ruling Colorado Blvd. Much love grama😊
MY IDOLS JUST LIKE THE BEACH BOYS. THEY DESERVE HALL OF FAME LIKE ANYBODY ELSE. ....
There was a parody of this song on the Dr. Demento show called "Little old lady just a little bit meaner than the little old Lady from Pasadena."
My mother worked in Pasadena and drove a GTO to and from work...we used to tease her it was her theme song.
"You might drive a GOER, but you'll never lose her". I love the title to "The Anaheim, Azusa and Cucamong Sewing Circle, Book Review and Timing Association". How cool is that?
Try to say that three times fast LOL Years ago(30+) I couldn't say that for anything, I don't know how many times it took before I got it right.
I had a ticket and had such a bad case of poison ivy that I couldn`t go!One of my deepest regrets!I even was going to meet a beautiful girl there that I`d met on the beach In Panama City Fla two months before! What luck!
John Scavens
Awe!😕Hope your luck has gotten better! Sounds like my kind of luck
I knew that when I got old, I was the granny that Jan and dean were talking about. this granny is driving a 1987 Buick Grand National
Hello Lynda, How are you doing?
10+ when music was great.
To allow these boys to disappear from music history would be really devastating. Even my grand kids are listening to them.
I'm thirteen and I like them a lot
How great was music back then? Awesome :))
I saw them in an oldies concert in Augusta Ga. They invited the audience up on the stage to sing back up of "Surfin' Safari". Good times!
OMG that was my Sophmore year in high school. I miss those days.
Boy were they great live!! Great footage of the guys at their best. A great song and performance.
Blimey , I love the harmony sound these two fellas made. Pre Beach Boys and even with that little hipster dance that Mike Love so o
bviously copied. Still love the Beach Boys as well, but credit where it is due, Jan and Dean...yes ....
Actually Brian Wilson co wrote Surf City along with Jan Berry. The B/B and J&D collaborated a time or two. Dean sang on Barbara Ann. As far as this performance, somebody was backing them up on the harmony. There is more than 2 voices going on in this video. It wouldn't surprise me if it was the B/Bs since they were at the same concert.
beach boys were before these clowns
ignorecorporatenews no Jan and Dean started out in the late 50’s, while they were still in high school...
Just love it when the mic slips down, he appears to try to grab it, its not there and sings thru it.
More than awesome!
YES!! GO JAN&DEAN!!
REMEMBER THEM TOO!!
AND THE BEACH BOY'S!!!
GREAT STUFF INDEED!!
THANK'S FOR THE POSTING.
One of life's tragedies- "Dead Man's Curve"
I'm writing a blog about my Grandma K, who loved this song in the 1960s. She'd giggle and sing it every time she heard it!
Hello Judy, How are you doing?
Hey, Jan and Dean the original Beach Boys !.
Quite simply imo it doesn't get better than this.
A throwback to a different era.
Luv the way the microphone stand at 0.47 gets into the swing of things, and how he manages to adjust it whilst carrying on singing !!
Leslie Gore passing them the mic at the top...
Jan sure was handsome 👍
I'm diggfing the sound...
I think Jan Berry is the most handsome man I have ever seen!!
Most of them were, in that era right before the hippies, because even if they weren't "handsome" there was something about them that's very appealing for some girls (like me sometimes.) Very few, not-well-publicized gays, no trans
ANOTHER GREAT SONG FROM TIME PAST !
First heard Jan & Dean and the Beach Boys on Radio Caroline North when I was very young. I loved the surfing sound (still do) but, as our nearest beach was Blackpool, there weren’t many opportunities for surfing in the Irish Sea.
They were sooooo cute! Remember them well!❤️
80s haircut in the 60s .....FUNtastic
Takes me back to when you had to be talented to sing Great music.
Founding member of the Anaheim, Azusa, and Cucamonga Sewing Circle, Book Review and Timing Association. (Before moving to Pasadena, of course).
Many in the Rock n Roll hall of fame are not the least performers of R n R. They have country, rap, hip hoppers in it....all kinds of pop music un related to R n R.
Ironically, the best Surf-song of this era, has nothing to do with surfing! 😄
Thank you for posting a nice music.
I just ❤ Jan + Dean- Forever!!!
Heck yeah! I had that exact same shirt in 6th grade!
Saw Dean Torrence at the community arts center in Williamsport. With David Mark and surf city All stars.
This is a fantastic song and video !!!!
Lucky enough to have seen them in the early 80’s at the Great Western forum in Inglewood
Brian Wilson liked these guiys...I like these guys
my favorite song by them.
Class of 66. My dream car is a 2 door big block V8 with a 4 barrel carb, positive traction rear end and a 2 window down 70 mph. ac. With the name Plymouth Cuda on the trunk lid.
Its amazing how well they danced.
Of course that is Lesley Gore !!
She's even shorter than I thought she was!
Jenny Q I think she was about 5’2” and Jan and Dean were both over six feet tall. She did look tiny between them!
@@pgood2124 I know Jan was 6' 1" cause I looked him up on Wiki. But Leslie or Lesley however you spell it couldn't have looked that tiny between them! I've seen myself (5' 3") in the mirror once with my cousin (6' 3") and I didn't look too tiny
Behind the scenes of the T.A.M.I. show were superb studio musicians. Hal Blaine was on drums...you can hear his innovative style. Saw J and D at Disneyland in 1966.
I was twelve years old when this was a hit darn I am old as dirt
Proud to be from Pasadena
That's a very good point about Jan & Dean and Brian Wilson! I don't know what the RRHOF's criteria for induction are, but it certainly isn't hit records. J & D have a chart record that some inductees would have killed for--a #1 single plus 6 other top-10s; and more than a half-dozen in the top-40. It doesn't help that the induction committee is made up of people who aren't even musicians themselves.
The Beach Boys were influenced a little bit by Jan and Dean's singing style when they started but Jan and Dean didn't sing songs about surfin' and cars until after the Beach Boys got big with it first and Jan became good friends with Brian Wilson who wrote "Surf City" for them in 1963. Before the Beach Boys had hits Jan and Dean sang songs about baby talk and covers of old songs like "Heart and Soul".
+Ron Sandgren Another interesting fact is Jan started out with some guy named Artie. They went by the name Jan and Arnie I believe.
Yeah it was Arnie and Jan went with him on the record Jennie Lee because Dean went into the Army reserves for awhile but Dean was best friends and recorded things with Jan when they were in high school together.
