It looks like you've come to the "bigger isn't better" conclusion concerning the removal of tables, which I massively respect! Can't wait to see what's next!
At first I was kinda sad that you were taking things down and rebuilding but then I realised that you had inspired me to build my own city on minecraft over many many years ago and like you I have recently been uninspired and unhappy with how things are. Maybe I can learn from your example once again and breathe new life into it :) always love your work Jang, I'm glad you're keeping the planetary defence force base haha :)
I don't know whether it helps, but it's kind of a well-known secret in the model railway hobby: a layout is neither permanent, nor is it ever finished. You can always find something you want to do to it, and sometimes that means destroying what you've already created to make something you like better. Think of it like a natural cycle: a volcano creates land, and the water erodes it away. Change is inevitable, and offers new opportunities for the brave.
Yep I've done similar stuff myself in my own projects, one day you just look at everything and realise that it sucks. I've found that it absolutely pays off to redo something you're unhappy with when it comes to creative endeavours and I've never regretted it.
Seeing those Nexo Knights sets takes me back. I was around when you first reviewed those sets! Can’t believe I’ve been watching and enjoying your work since I was 15.
Sounds like the big priority here is having a much more comfortable viewing experience, which is exactly how it should be! That will make it much more enjoyable in the long run
Good to hear you sound so enthusiastic, it was also nice to see Nexo Knights sets again, brings back good memories of when my little boy was Lego crazy.
Hey Jang, now you're fully on board the less is more train, have you considered doing away with the standing walkway in the middle and having a long narrower layout? It could make it way more efficient and easier for the planning stage. It's hard to judge scale as a viewer but I'm estimating it would be workable in terms of things in the middle being in reach for you, though admittedly I could be way off.
Yeah I think the scale is different than you're perceiving. My table runs are about 6 baseplates across, so a comfortable arm's reach from either side. I've spent months digitally experimenting with table layouts to optimize and this is definitely the best & most effective arrangement for many reasons the average viewer won't always immediately see in every video.
Dear Jang, good to see you working on your long time project. I am really looking forward to the development of your tracks and train oriented landscape layout. I will stay tuned!
I was lurking on Twitch and saw that were taking sets apart, honestly I was feeling a bit uneasy! 😂 But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do, it's your Lego city after all! Can't wait to see all the upcoming changes you will do, I'm sure your mind is feeling at ease more than ever! Happy building , great Jang!
Loving the progress! Almost forgot about the fan-inspired area under the table - that Bladerunner like city. Unsure what your plans are for that, but I am happy to see you will keep the under water scene [perhaps combining with the one other the ship yard?]. Super impressed at all the clean up and progress you've been able to make this month. I know the sorting of the pieces will be super laborious but hey, more bricks for your future MOCs! :) Wish there was a way I could slow down time for you, so August 1st was still another month away! :)
Disassembly is key to fast-tracking and rerunning your trains. i still remember when you reviewed all those Nexo knights back when I was in high school. time flies by too quickly
Always interesting to see the some of the behind the scenes of the structural elements of the layout, things that have to be raised and stuff. One of the especially fun things about revamping much of this stuff. Keep it up :)))
I know it would be a ton of work, but I would love to see an updated look at your parts storage collection! Love to see you changing things up to better fit what you want it to be!
What kind of plates are under the table at 3:41? I like that blue water part with sand and grass. Does anyone know if it something that can be bought still? Or something similar to it? I really liked it☺
LEGO track is wider than O gauge, but the rolling stock is all significantly lighter and less powerful. The 180-degree turns at either end become a huge problem and here I just don't have enough space, plus the depth of perimeter tables would be half what I have now and leave a huge wasted open space in the middle of the room. I have to consider long-term access, rebuildability, the streaming computer & camera rig, etc. I've reconsidered my table layouts countless times and experimented with numerous options digitally. Nothing else has come close to this crooked 'C' across all factors combined. I just need to shorten it a smidge for comfort.
This motivates me to taken apart about half of my collection, because my whole house including legoroom gets new window frames. However it is a good opportunity to clean things up and build new storage space.
The LEGO train systems are fantastically horrible at handling elevation changes. I had one years ago that rose & fell just 3 or 4 bricks across the entire (shorter) width of the room to cross a small, humble drawbridge and most of my trains struggled even with that small incline. If you run stock LEGO City trains which are incredibly simple, hollow, and short, you can get away with a lot. When you make custom rolling stock and want to pull more than a handful of cars, you quickly lose to physics.
@@JANGcity Ah...I see your issue. I run mostly standard lego trains...5 or 6 cars, so my inclines work okay. My layout is more of a shunting puzzle than a huge freight transfer situation. Your MOCS are kinda next level though. Anyways, I shall watch intently as your new vision grows! Cheers, and thanks for replying 👍🏻
This looks like really great progress getting things moved toward a much more usable configuration. The idea of having a higher baseboard height with more walkway space fits 100% with the modern best practice design philosophy for a model railway. Those guys have spent decades figuring out how to work and view a layout, so I'm sure this is going to be awesome when you get it all changed. Really looking forward to seeing it. How high are you planning on making the tables? Any thoughts on what to do with all the space below them?
It would be hard for me to not be overwhelmed by the amount of things to be taken down, inventoried, sorted, moved etc…but having that goal of how you see it for the future makes all the work worth it when you make it to the other side. 😮
Hi Jang . I'm not really into reviews but still watch your channels. I always look forward to your lego city renovations. I would like to leave a suggestion or two. But I know your not into suggestion. It's your own thing and enjoy what you like to do with your soon to be a new city.
It is exciting to follow your journey. Thank you very much for sharing all aspects of it with us. I highly appreciate and enjoy very much that you give us such deep insight.
I look forward to future updates I feel like you're at the point now where you can start titling it your Lego model railroad reguardless I'm excited to see it
Yep many times. It'd be around $5000 at the low end, incredibly time-consuming and gain me no advantage while only adding disadvantages. Makes it harder to make any layout change that doesn't involve rearranging 32x32s, makes organic train ballasting more of a nightmare, makes wiring lights much more expensive & more difficult to maintain & adjust. MILS is great for folks who do a lot of convention work, but otherwise skipping them is a huge benefit.
I'm unclear on how you felt "stuck". Did you not create your LEGO city before you started being influenced by your fans? The mall moc for example? I only ask because if we see you falling into a similar pattern, we can give you a heads up. Thanks for the great content as always. I for one am looking forward to your new build.
So jang will you not be having a designated Jurassic area anymore? Or is it just for the time being then you will add in a Jurassic prehistoric area or something along that lines? Just kinda curious about that situation what your planning with that lol
Let him cook

That's what I love about LEGO. Perhaps the only hobby that can be rebuilt to suit your ever changing needs, growing with you.
Nice to see you taking time to do what you enjoy ♥
Freeing he technical debt of past building must be super liberating

New New Jang City will rise above!
Quite literally too, I think I heard him he say he’ll raise the tables.
Big work, Jang! Looking good, excited for the next steps! :)

Was wondering if you’re going for traditional model railroad layout but in lego, why not go back to a perimeter layout?

What do you have your 12 volt system hooked up to?
Low-end hobby train controller with two channels. MPC I think?
Good stuff Jang! Nothin like a fresh start! It'd be good to see you try some train inclines, bring some more elevation changes into the new world 👍🏻

What are your plans?

The Conservation of LEGO Law states that whatever is assembled will one day be disassembled.
