  • Oluronbi, a beautiful but barren woman, deeply yearned for a child. In her desperation, she made a solemn vow to the Iroko tree, a sacred and powerful entity in Yoruba mythology, promising to give whatever child she was blessed with in return for its assistance. The Iroko tree, known for its might and mystical properties, granted her wish, and Oluronbi was eventually blessed with a child. However, when the time came to fulfill her vow, Oluronbi broke her promise, unable to part with her beloved child. This act of breaking a vow to a deity, especially one as potent as the Iroko tree, led to severe consequences, highlighting themes of trust, the importance of keeping one's word, and the delicate balance between desire and responsibility in Yoruba folklore.
