Quarantine' s crafts vol.3 | DIY - Old suitcase makeover

An old suitcase belonged to my grandfather, with some parts of wood almost destroyed, turned into a completely different looking suitcase.
I used a lot of transparent wood glue and acrylic putty, I reused the metal parts after removing the rust with vinegar and painting them with bronze antique gold spray and I painted it with two colors of chalk paint.
For the inside, a very old version of the book "Early Days" by Miss Read gave me its' lovely yellow pages to cover it using transparent glue.
I enjoyed this project from the begining to the end!

This would have been from 1800s or early 1900 given the dovetail joints in it. The purist in me feels that maybe just a wash and a loving coat of wax would have bought up the grain and patina. And the inside lining was lovely in the original.

You can see than it was destroyed from humidity and it was breaking in pieces inside and out. So a lot of repairing materials should be used and that would definitely cover the grain and patina. Also the inside lining was lovely only by looking, because it was too sticky when you were touching it, and it was keeping too much dirt on it. What I am trying to say is that although I love wood texture, on this one I had to find other solutions that would cover the wood..

Ufffff, grán trabajo para la pieza no adecuada, (es solo mi opinión)..quedó tan tapado su pasado, y pienso que es triste. Si compras una caja barata y sin historias que contar en una tienda de importación, consigues el mismo resultado....

the first white layer is a glue for wood which becomes crystallized and transparent after some hours, up of it I put stucco and then did the painting
