Some things not mentioned... Not exactly LGBTQ+ or BIPOC friendly, there isn't much to do should you be single or childless/childfree and under retirement age. If you're married with kids, sure, good place for you. This isn't much, basic shopping, mostly chain restaurants, a severely polluted lagoon (complete with dying manatees) and a rough beach. If you're coming here for one of the many engineering firms, sure, great, if not, don't expect to be paid what you're used to. Don't get me started on the politics, just look up Wayne Ivy, Randy Fine and mom's of liberty, you'll get the picture. There's good and bad everywhere, absolutely, but not everywhere is for everyone. I commented because most of these sorts of videos are geared toward white, straight couples with kids, and great if that's you! No shade! Thank you for saying this, I was wondering myself. A lot of people don't take into consideration this part. Like sure you can be an educated minority in any sense trying to live out where land is cheaper and large enough where you don't see what your neighbors are up to (always thought it was creepy where neighbors know where you went because they recognize which bags you were shopping at.) But most towns that feature good schools and those amenities usually don't have the best food, lack cultural diversity, and therefore lack diversity in general. To have a follow up comment on the other commenter on this post, you may have friends who aren't white or who aren't straight but are there things for those people to do while living there? Because I don't always get excited about the next Culver's or a Five guys that gets built up, I'd rather a good sushi buffet, Poke, Roti or Jamaican patty shop. I am an Filipino American married to a Afro Jamaican woman, need to be in a place where we aren't obviously the needle in the haystack, but a place where we can live comfortably financially.
@hibadiaoltv Funny, this comes up a year after posting...my partner and I were about to leave this area when he got a bad diagnosis last July and died three days ago. This just happened. I wouldn't suggest living anywhere there's a monopoly in health care. Also there wasn't a lot of community help. Had we been any of the four places we had before, there would have been more support.
@@magnolia_g I'm so sorry to know this. I reside in South Florida so there's plenty of Healthcare options, I never really thought about this, even right now my wife is battling cancer and we are at our third hospital since she was diagnosed. I'm sorry again, but this is a blessing to me to think about, sometimes there's expense in convienance that is Healthcare which most won't even begin to think about. Thank you.
I was born & Raised in West Palm Bch. My husband convinced me Merritt Island would be a great place to live. The first few weeks i cried and wanted to go home. I said I CAN"T LIVE IN A PLACE WHERE BINGO< BOWLING< & DAIRY QUEEN ARE THE BIGGEST THING GOING ON SATURDAY NIGHT!!! Fast forward a month, I see what I assume are sharks lots of them in sykes creek. They were dolphins, then manatees, and gators!!! I was in awe. On top of all this within 3 months I was working at the bingo hall, bowling on 2 leagues, and yeah we were at dairy queen on saturday nights LOL!! I pretty much knew everyone in town in less then 6 months. That was 30 plus years ago. My daughter is now 34 and still hangs with all the ppl she went to grade school with, solid roots and they all look out for eachother, and now my Grand children are being raised on Merritt Island. I swear it's like "Cheers" where everyone knows your name. We also have the greatest sheriff's dept in the country hands down!!
My wife and I lived and worked in Brevard County for 11 years and loved it. We started out in Satellite Beach for 5 years and then moved to Cocoa Village, Cape Canaveral and finally West Melbourne. Each area has it charm. Like humans, bugs and other creatures find Florida a wonderful place to live. We grew up and spent most of our adult life in Southern California, summer is hot to miserable in both places. At least in Florida, summer rain brings relief. Florida has occasional hurricanes and California has earthquakes. The big plus for me in California is that most places are an hour or two from the ocean or mountains. In January it can be 80° at the beach and snow skiing on Big Bear slopes.
Been living here for 6 years. I can definitely see Melbourne becoming the next Delray. I grew up here in south Florida and Melbourne reminds me what Delray used to be 20 years ago. It is a bitter sweet moment to see this small beach town explode in growth.
Hello Liz. I'm trying to get an idea about the summer weather compared to the same in NJ. NJ in the summer gets absolutely brutal. Extremely hot and humid. I would imagine the heat and humidity would be the same down there but doesn't being right on the coast help? Any insight is appreciated. Thank you for the content.
Brevard County summers are extremely humid, but we tend to be a bit cooler. With that being said, it is really hot and humid. BUT.....I would take 6 months of hot and 6 months of perfection over 6 months of winter. I grew up in Iowa and I could not imagine enduring the cold winters. The on shore breeze on the beach is nice in the summer. We live in our pools and A/C in the July and August. Hope this helps!
One more reason to not move to Brevard is that FLORIDA MAN lives here… and he will get you! Just as The sun rises in the east…. FLORIDA MAN IS WAITING FOR YOU!
Wickham Road is horrible traffic Nightmare and they built way too many houses!
Worse then Orlando
This is the wrost place in Florida, truly.
What makes it the worst place?

The store's in Orlando don't care about those.

I have many non-white, non-straight friends and they seems to quite happy here.

South Brevard is bad. Like port st lucie.
Port St.Lucie is not in Brevard county. PSL is in port at lucie county.
