- Although this John A. Miller designed woodie opened at Six Flags America is 1986, the coaster is actually almost 100 years old. It was built in 1917 at Paragon Park in Massachusetts & was called Giant Coaster before being moved to Maryland. Much of the coaster was redesigned in 1932 after it was partially destroyed by fire & another fire in 1963 destroyed the station, trains, double helix finale & part of the lift hill. The two bunny hops & the helix were removed during that rebuild, but Six Flags restored the coaster as it originally was after the relocation.
Six Flags America is located near Washington DC in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

killercoasters my boi this coaster was original to an amusement park in Massachusetts.
She was transported down the coast to 6 Flags.
When she was in my home town , I was too young and short to ride her, and then the park closed. She’s already survived so much- And she’s a historical property I believe .
Roar is also a classic woodie

This was originally at paragon park in the 1970’s it was built in 1917. Even tho it’s in Maryland it will always be a New England coaster. I went to the spot where this originally was in Hull Massachusetts and it’s a hotel and an ice cream booth now.
Used to ride this all the time back when it was in Hull, Massachusetts. Hopefully I will get down to DC to relive my youth some day.

I closed in 1984 not 1985 I lived 25 min from the park I was one of the last people to ride it the night it closed
this was my first roller coaster in the 2nd grade. little did I know what I was getting myself into haha

I first went up to this roller coaster at Nantasket with friends in 1970...and chickened out at the last second. The next year I marched right up, rode it and was hooked.
At the age of 45, finally rode on my first coaster, this one, last week. I wasn't scared or queasy, but it felt like my internal organs were going to eject themselves from my mouth.

I got to ride this as a kid when it was at Paragon Park. A great coaster. I think at the time, it was the world's 6th largest coaster.
Im from the town where this coaster originally was from wish the amusement park was still there it closed in 1984, but glad to see this beauty still live on almost 40 years later.
I loved Paragon Park. Went every summer. I'll never forget the first summer I was tall enough to go on the Comet😎❤
The ride was really fun and smooth for a wooden coaster. It was fun and was fast but not to fast which made it a fun ride. Definitely recommend!
Not smooth as it used to be and now it goes 60mph
An Oldie, but a goodie! You can't beat those older rougher wooden coasters from days gone by!
It's not my favorite coaster in the park but I respect it's existence for paving the way to the modern rides we have now.
I L O V E the woodies! You really get a GOOD coaster ride on them. I know that they require more maintenance than the steel ones, especially when they get older, but still...the wooden roller coasters are GREAT!!! It's unfortunate that they don't build more of them.
I remember riding on this when I was younger at Paragon Park! I believe it also had a splashdown as well towards the end of the ride.
No splashdown -that was a different ride.

Just went on this today. I've been on it before 2 years ago but the experience is literally so awesome especially the drop at the beginning.
I have no idea why ppl say it is bumpy. BECAUSE I just love this thing just amazing especially the drops they were fun. Put ur hands high and have 10th best experience of ur life
This was actually my first real roller coaster that I ever went on.

I've actually been on this one many times!!!! The helix at the end spinning around for the big finish is my favourite part of the ride!!!! It is an awesome ol' woodie!!!!!!!
They re-added that when it moved to Maryland. I'd have to look up when they removed it from the original layout.

man, this was so fun when I rode with my friend. I got a massive headache afterwards, but it was his first time, so I held it in to see his face light up.
I never saw what it looked like because my eyes were always closed

This is arguably the best coaster at Six Flags America. The Wild One is more intense than Superman: ROS and has better airtime than it. I also enjoy The Wild One more than Superman.

The clink clink clink in beginning did it for me....I locked myself in seat and never looked down....I did get ass slapped a bit but was fun....my son is 8 rode it 4 times....he didn't experience none of what I felt I guess jus go with the flow don't tense up....👌🏽✌🏽️🎉🎉😎

It hasn't been here for 100 years. The Wild One opened in 1986, about 33 years ago when it was moved to Maryland. But, the Giant Coaster, the original version of the Wild One, opened in 1917 but it was NOT in Maryland.
I went on this a week ago for my 13th bday and I had no idea it would go up so high in the beginning! I hugged onto my brothers girlfriend who was right next to me and closed my eyes almost the whole time because of how scared I was, which is why at first I couldn’t really identify it if it was the same because this video was posted almost a decade ago so I was thinking this specific ride might not still even be up. But it is the same

They may have restored the double helix but they shortened the first drop by 15 feet.
I go to that six flags you are filming those videos at. The one is Maryland. I have been on this ride and let me just say its my favorite after The Apocolitz (sorry couldn't spell) anyway it is very bumpy but because of that its fun and all wooden coasters are basically a little rough and bumpy.
Apcocolypes was so bumpy for me, well like the ride itself was kinda smooth but my head kept bumping into the headrest thingi 😂 this is why you don't ride in the back row

Take it apart, move it, prepare the new location and finally put it back together.
It is just far more work (there even were travelling woodies).
Looks like a pretty good ride. Too bad so many parts were destroyed by fires. I might be taking my kids here next month, Maybe I'll ride this with them.

I went on this when it was 97/98 years old. now it is 99/100
When I rode this I have to say I didn't entirely enjoy it. It was very bumpy and you kind of get thrown around a lot, but it was fun for the most part.
