And the best comment of this video came from Peter Hitchens, "Do you want you money back?".
Highlights of Baroness Warsi's argument:
2:33 refers to Kate Hoey as "Crate"
3:50 points out that the UK is leaving the UK
She lost the argument when she said 'zee'.
samuelbcn What zee hell are you on about?
Bring back hereditary peerage in the Lords. Not all. Blair was right to cull two thirds, but not all of them. Blair was a marxist at university, and he wanted to prove his Tory father wrong. Which means it was never a proper reform.
@@susannamarker2582 yes
Well whoopy-doo, we apparently have the best football league in the world. Surely a sign of greatness if ever there was one.
@Tim Hill, Britain. Why, what did you think I was referring to?
"We're not a nation of drama queens." I think we forgot to tell Emily Thornberry.
I love how she begins rolling off some of things that truly made us great in literature and the arts, like Chaucer, Shakespeare, Dickens etc., except they date back to an age and culture lambasted by fashionable types like herself. Go figure.
I once read a quote by a Chinese citizen, addressed at those among his fellow Chinese who talk proudly about the 5,000 glorious years of Chinese history. He said it was like being asked by your girlfriend's father how much money you had and replying, "My ancestors, hundreds of years ago, were very wealthy."
Don't throw baby out with the bath water
She is an absolute moron and obviously thinks a lot of herself.
She comes across like a primary school headmistress.
Still way better than Jo Swinson though.
She’s completely out of her depth. Like a walking identity crisis
The literal example of the "emperor's new clothes"
I'm surprised she's not in the Labour party. We don't have freedom of speech. We need radical reform to make Britain great again.
I’d rather we were like Austria than trying to make us great again 🙄
We had our day
@@seanmoran2743 We need to be a great country with our own industry, energy, agriculture and countryside. No to interventionist foreign wars or exploitation. Both Britain and Austria deserve to be great again. Beautiful European culture and architecture.
3:50 who’s leaving the U.K. ?
Well she managed to waffle on for almost 10 minutes without hesitation, repetition or deviation, and she was still speaking when the bell rang. So tonight's winner with minus 20 points is........
Most of this speech was concerned with how the rest of the work sees us, that is not what normal people care about. I agree in comparison to other countries we are better but that is not a high bar to reach is it.
A population of just over 50 million? Try 67 million!
This was utterly horrible, one of the worst debating speeches I've ever heard.
IQ^2 - you have the wrong description in the heading :) It is Baroness Warsi, not Peter Hitchens
I'm into Pt 4 now and I've just realised that the moderator isn't David Mitchell. Damn. How very much better it would have been. And I'm amazed Will Self didn't just Skype it in. He certainly didn't bother, you know, writing anything original or interesting in advance. I've seen some good stuff on Intelligence Squared, mind. Back when Britain was great!
My brain is telling me that this was a battle of the sexes....but the PC zeitgeist is telling me that this was an equitable debate
Baroness Warsi, such a lovely woman. SHAME that Blairism took away from her the right to pass her noble title on to her eldest child, something which would not anger me at all. Quite the opposite in fact.
Because nepotism and titles reflect greatness.
Terrible speech
EXCOOS ME, HAVE ANYBODY GOT ANY BOTTLE ORANGE JUUUUIIIE?
A great city, a great audience do not a great country make.
who does she think she is kidding
"Britain" just turned into "England" in this speech unfortunately.
She is mentioning all things well done long ago in arts that cannot feed all people
Brilliant speech.
My high points:
1.) "We have Yorkshire..."
2.) Preferring steady Eddies.
3.) Being able to criticise the government without being shot.
My main criticisms:
1.) We're leaving the EU not the UK.
2.) I do have some questions about multiculturalism, I don't take issue with race, I'll typically bump along with anyone and get on with whoever's around but I do have some concerns about Islam and it's current manifestation in the UK. Although there are plenty of decent people who are Muslim these people are rarely in positions of authority, either in the officialdom of business, media or government or within their own communities. Indeed the only ones I can think of are commonly viewed as traitors or pariahs within large sections of the Muslim community, Sayeeda Warsi is one, Maajid Nawaz and Sajid Javid are two other names, these people are often treated with contempt by community leaders. So there is a problem there and those who get misty-eyed over multiculturalism sometimes miss this.
@Tim Hill She mentions curry once in a ten minute speech, either you didn't pay attention to the whole thing or you've got tunnel vision.
When you lose your territory of governance say when countries fought for their independence that is a collapsed state Britain
Like Hoey, Warsi doesn't demonstrate anything other than confidence. ... Bonkers
Unfortunately this side addresses the past and brings up the past as reasons and evidence for the greatness however the other side played a different ball game and were talking about the now after accepting the past was great or used the past as the comparison. A far far different reality the debaters go past each other rather than meet to grind against each other.
Wonderful videos , offering challenging and different points of views on cultural opinions. But what I've unfortunately noticed is discussion, topics and references are very Eurocentric based. Africa is completely ignored in all discussions and where Africa should be referenced it's by passed for Asia. There is so much discussion , debate, and excitement centred around the African continent whether it's challenging European historical narratives, the changing relationship between Africa and The West, infrastructure changes across the continent, SA after Apartheid. You need to include more black scholars and academics. Debates would become very interesting discussion platforms.
No we don't, we don't want people on based on their skin colour, thanks.
@@Dave-ws9pt Along with your D grades, and Special learning classes which you had to attend during all your school years, English comprehension was a skill you never grasped. I talked about ideas , narratives and discussion around the African continent. No mention of skin colour.
@@axe7064 'You need to include more black scholars and academic' - straight copy pasted from you first post.
@@Dave-ws9pt To discuss The African continent which is obvious. You only have white academics discussing white civilisation and culture. My argument is not a racial one. It's an African one. What are you afraid of?
@@axe7064 I am not interested, let Africa talk about Africa in Africa. I am up for the conversation if it is 'when is Africa going to be able to look after itself and not depend on the West'. Or 'how can we stop migration from Africa to Europe'.
About being a country which is in top 5 countries in GDP with less population, I hope you know where that money your country looted from.
If you’re saying that it comes from India despite the fact Britain was bankrupt in 1945 and India gained independence in 1947, you’re loopy.
I would like to remind Sayeeda Warsi that Hitler was keen on laws and many people in Germany at the time chose to follow his laws. Laws were also used as a means by which to support apartheid. IMHO neither of these two examples could be considered righteous, so don't use the population following its laws as a bulwark for a 'Great' nation.
Keep on dreaming.........
why all the dislikes?
@@PAVANZYL I did. so is everyone think the UK is shit or what?
@@user-hh2is9kg9j Not at all. I love the UK, but you could have a great argument but present it badly. That's all.
Yes
@@user-hh2is9kg9j The UK is shit. Look around.
I think it's just because by the usual IS2 standards it was a duff show.
Why is a PAKISTANI saying 'us' - as if it applies to her?
why are you saying "us" like it applies to you?
