i don't agree at all. If you just want to see the moves you can just go to the website of your choosing and see the moves. If you want analysis you can watch them and still won't loose the actual moves because of the small board.
Depending on the category, games can go over several hours, with pauses as long as 30 minutes inbetween moves. The commentators usually theory craft over the bigger "fake board" during the pauses. In that case a bigger board is very useful and better for the viewer. The commentators try to comprehend what the players think, try to give accurate predictions and can show it properly. But in shorter categories like Rapid, or in this video Blitz, it is rather extremely annoying because the games move so fast. That is why I believe they used simply the screen setup from the longer game category on this shorter category exhibition. Quick and dirty, but annoying.
When the commentators think what they say is more important than the game. Of course, both players would crush the commentators, even though they are GMs.
haha yeah they don't shut up, they talk over one another, and they make their annoying analysis board larger than the board everyone actually wants to watch. multi-fail xD
I understand you and actually agree, to some extent. To elaborate on my previous comment: I think the analysis is fine but the way they present their analysis is far from enjoyable.
Cmon, its peter svidler, top 20 in the world. Free analysis from such a strong player is something we should be glad about. Although i agree that the analysis board shouldnt be the main thing on the screen, still, its great commentary from great players, what else do you want.
If this was someone’s first chess video as in “hey i always wanted to see what chess was about” and they some how make it to this video, i can assure you, they will be driven away by the commentary.
+jqbtube eat shit asswipe. The fact that their theory is put on the bigger screen shows, as is the case far too often, the commentators are more interested in showing their (likely computer assisted) theory than the actual players. Nobody came here for the commentary and the theory, we came here for the game, which is only displayed on the little screen.
I got to meet Alejandro Ramirez in person at the Millionaire tournament in Atlantic City. Nicest dude ever, but I gotta say I didn't expect him to be so short haha
Sitting down to play Magnus as a 2700+ player(one of less than 50 players in the whole world)has got to be a terrible feeling knowing you are probably going to lose. Carlsen seems bored and Yu seems frightened.
When I listened to the commentary said ,"if he take,he's going to lose a piece,.."and I did look at the board and try to look for that meaning..After 3+ minutes only then I realized that ooooo..haha
If white takes the knight on d3, then black can move the rook to e4 (protected by the knight on f6) which forks the white bishop and knight on f4 and a4 respectively. White will be down a minor piece and doesn't have the board position to make up for it, therefore white will lose.
The bishop exchange with the knight on e5 has to happen so white isn't down a piece. But the error was pushing the pawn to d5, this move goes from equal position to favouring black because of the following exchange and a possible swap of a knight for a bishop.
To give some sort of feedback. I didn't like it, when the window swapped to the analysis window. I never saw something like an analysis video for chess and I wanted to see the game. I didn't listen too much to the commentary because I wanted to follow the moves for myself. The problem was, that I realized that the color of the window had changed, but for the first minute I thought this was the actual window of the game and I got confused, that moves weren't in sync with the actual gameplay of the people. Maybe label the windows, so that even a newcomer understands what's going on.
switch all three parts, make the live the main part, make the analysis the second biggest part , and make the video of them both paying the smallest part
Lol. I was wondering why the top view of the chess pieces weren't moving when the players have moved so many pieces. And I saw this tiny box on the left and I'm like "are you for real?" I could honestly care less about the possible moves that they think are great. I just care about the players' actual moves whether they're correct or not. *sigh*
Chess players: Not good commentators. Shush Svindler. Chess Players: not clued up on a good user experience, seriously, that big board for analysis. Talk about a hard video to watch with such incredible skills by the players. Eeekkkk... Someone else get there and help these people out.
"not clued up on a good user experience" - Adrian More you're spot on. They need to go to School of Media and Communication to learn the art of commentating.
Analysis takes up way too much of the screen. Commentators keep talking over each other, without adding value to the analysis. Get better mics too. There's a noticeable echo.
I took for me more than one minute to realize that rook can capture either bishop or knight. Carlsen saw all that immediately. Carlsen makes me feel very amateur.
at this level of chess if youre down a major piece like knight/biship/rook and you cant get anything in return its pretty much impossible to comebback from. Grandmasters like Magnus should have no trouble ending the game with a 1 piece advantage like that.
Yu did an incredible blunder, the kind of error you'd expect only a player quite lower than 2000 ELO could possibly do, completely forgetting that he has material in A4 and that the rook will threaten it simultaneously with the bishop. Well, this goes to show even the top players of the world are humans, and can have the kind of myopia that's typical of very low ranked players, looking just at where the action is and forgetting about the rest of the board. But still it's not Carlsen that's good here, it's just Yu who for once in his carrier make an incredibly bad move (3 question marks would be well deserved here).
absolutely right, jmdesp. Knight on a4 is not a usual square Yu would put his knight on and he wasn't even worried about any potential tactical opportunity there. I would say it's just one of rare occasion where Yu was caught off guard and Carlsen was apparently surprised (his facial expression says it all) that his opponent made such a mistake.
Madhu Varun So they just give up if they lose a couple of their pieces? Seems lame and not very fun to watch. They don't have comebacks? They just take their ball and go home? There's no spartan 300 stand?
Um commentators, next time perhaps consider the possibility that the audience is more interested in WHAT THE PLAYERS ARE ACTUALLY DOING than your guesses of what they might do? Having the live board less than half the size of the analysis board was ridiculous.
:)...I never knew chess could be so awesome!................... ....Nah, I did...:) Never heard of this young man Magnus...He is so young and a monster player!
I would have mixed it up and moved the dark square bishop to h6 or f5 threatening the pawn/knight.. both would have made room for the queen on e4 to cover the pawn. Or as the commentators said d5 would have been fine
i like how ramirez misses Nxd3 Qxd3 Re4 initially with his "actually preserves material" comment at least i assume it's ramirez.. i'm going on voice alone
The analysis board really distracted me of the game , I got nothing to say on the commentators but I wanted to visualize bettwr the actual game move by move ...
3:27 Epic Magnus reaction to the blunder. " dafaq he did? Well let's punish!!"
*Commentators saying the chess match is already over*
Me: *Doesn't even understand how*
i wouldnt know how to finish it hahah
Some/all of the commentators are even im or gm. They play chess. So they know.
@@kuchikibyakuya7697one is Svidler, top GM who has been champion of Russia several times
I have to agree with most commenters here. No one want to see your analysis window. Keep the live game in the main window
As someone who doesn't watch chess often, I found the analysis screen to be quite useful at explaining what was going on.
Me too, but they should keep the analysis in the small window.
i don't agree at all. If you just want to see the moves you can just go to the website of your choosing and see the moves. If you want analysis you can watch them and still won't loose the actual moves because of the small board.
i got so triggered
As a beginner it actually made it more and not less confusing.
Nice guys though.
WHY WOULD YOU MAKE THE ACTUAL LIVE SCREEN SMALLER THAN YOUR CRAPPY ANALYSIS SCREEN???
Most of top level chess is made up of moves that never happened, and why. That's the point of commentary.
Mate, the analysis is the more important bit
BECAUSE THEY'VE NEVER HAD SEX

MAYBE THEY LIKE TRIGGERING SENSITIVE PEOPLE ON RUclips. Or maybe you should just chill out, it's not that big of a deal.
That is a horrific way to end a tournament
Since when does the analysis board is larger then the playing board ???
When the commentators think what they say is more important than the game. Of course, both players would crush the commentators, even though they are GMs.
actually Svidler has a higher rating than Yu.
Yeah sure he would crush Svidler, who just placed 6th at the Sinquefield Cup ahead of Caruana, Nakamura and So.
Why not just place an over head camera...
You must not watch chess much. It's common.
I like when Magnus makes that angry face at 3:28 following by an immediate take.
Thanks to the commentators for ruining the game in every fashion possible. Well done.
Want some cheese with your wine?
you mean "WHINE"...dumbass
yeah holy shit they don't stop talking
haha yeah they don't shut up, they talk over one another, and they make their annoying analysis board larger than the board everyone actually wants to watch. multi-fail xD
I watched it muted. They add nothing to the game whatsoever.
GM Yu should click the undo button
3:27 Carlsen is like WTF face
Final Fantasy haha 😂😂 I'm crying
Final Fantasy He was like why would he do that!
Final Fantasy e
he is a computer
Pretty sure he remembered an old game and saw the standard.
this is the only place where you learn to give up early
Just notice CarlSen won without moving his queen once lmao true chess master
Incredibly annoying analysis
On the other hand, as someone who never watches chess, I found the analysis to be very useful in explaining the different scenarios.
I understand you and actually agree, to some extent. To elaborate on my previous comment: I think the analysis is fine but the way they present their analysis is far from enjoyable.
But in a blitz game, it's best not to have any side analysis so we can keep up with the actual game moves.
E. Z. Yh the analysis should be on the side

this is the first video i watched hahahah

I like how these guys see the game so many moves ahead, while I’m still here thinking - there’s so many moves available 😅
5:00 "uh yangyi is stupi-"
LOL he almost said it
*"uh yangyi is still-"
But you cant beat him
No need to say "it's over" a bunch of times.
They said it over and over and over it was a little ridiculous
jqbtube agreed. What else is there to observe if the game isn’t progressing?
3:00 Carlsen's eyes widen. It's surprising the mistake
Mute the sound so you can watch the game.
6:29 this gesture looking like "he took too long to figure he was screwed"
Well done very good game . hope you show more games!!
u ruined the video with your over analysis and moving the playing board into the small window
How is it over please explain!
Sitting down to play Magnus as a 2700+ player(one of less than 50 players in the whole world)has got to be a terrible feeling knowing you are probably going to lose. Carlsen seems bored and Yu seems frightened.
3:26 Carlsen knows Yangyi f-ed up.
I love how they just look in disbelief before admitting they fucked...
I love Magnus' look at his blunder, like, "What is this nonsense?!"
When I listened to the commentary said ,"if he take,he's going to lose a piece,.."and I did look at the board and try to look for that meaning..After 3+ minutes only then I realized that ooooo..haha
What does the number 2736 after Yu's name mean?
I'm no chess expert. Can someone explain why they know it's over at 3:28?
If white takes the knight on d3, then black can move the rook to e4 (protected by the knight on f6) which forks the white bishop and knight on f4 and a4 respectively. White will be down a minor piece and doesn't have the board position to make up for it, therefore white will lose.
Ahh makes sense (I had to Google what 'fork' meant (I know how to play but I'm a casual player)). Thank you.
So what would have been a better room instead of going Qd1?
The bishop exchange with the knight on e5 has to happen so white isn't down a piece. But the error was pushing the pawn to d5, this move goes from equal position to favouring black because of the following exchange and a possible swap of a knight for a bishop.
Ah ok. Cool, thanks.
I know they can't hear the commentators but it is funny to watch this imagining that they could hear every word :D
how was the game over?
I'm waiting for the moment when Magnus will be old chess player it must feel nice to chase history of one of the greatest players in the world
Love magnus face 3:28 like saying "tf is he doing?" Hahahaha
Can someone explain why at 3:26 white didn't take the knight at e5? Thank you :)

With a majestic name like Magnus. i'n not surprised
Why am i watching this when i don't even know how to play chess
3:55 "found drawn and quartered" - only Svidler could come up with a phrase like this lol

please ssomeone tell me why game is finised.what happened
Why was the live game the smallest window in the screen ...
Great commentary!!
Both played superb
With the sound muted its so much better
I have to mute, and palm half my phones screen to keep track of WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON
Why did he resign ?
Svidler was quick to spot the fork on e4.
Two minute and a quarter long unskippable advert? Oh come on...
Enough ads on the video? Holy shit
Haha, that suit and tie at the end
you were awsome in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
i had to mute the actual video becuase the commentators were reaching max human IQ at 23404.

At 7:05 revealed the faces of the two culprits who kept on disturbing with their analysis from the beginning.
Yu might want to spend 1 minute thinking about moves BEFORE putting yourself in crappy position and wasting 2 minutes thinking how to get out.
I do agree
This is my first chess video so lost I was looking at the analysis the whole dam time smh 🤦♂️
Yu Yangyi made a blunder 03:26 at 15Qd1. Right move was Bxe5.
cristobal2907 don't you say
No, he DID say.
Magnus' facial expression agrees
redoceans142 sry but are you a chess player? this sounds like you had no idea of this sport
redoceans142 im sorry but can u define a blunder plz, this game was balanced and one move singlehandedly tipped the game over, thats a blunder to me
This must be recorded in like 20fps lol look at the insane motion blur
I took for me more than one minute to realize that rook can capture either bishop or knight. Carlsen saw all that immediately. Carlsen makes me feel very amateur.
Who is the commentator on the left?
Magnus always looks like he's getting distracted

Ooof Magnus , you just destroyed his dreams
You jumped way over my ability to comprehend. He left a piece hanging and would be down in material, so the game is done because of the level of play?
How is the game over? They still have many pieces. Can someone explain me?
Thanks now i can see the pin using that move. He has the kill in his sights...
I was thinking the same thing but the rook is pinning two of whites peices and no way for white to stop it.
