I honestly don't understand why some people feel offended, this method is probably the least problematic of them all. It makes you understand that it doesn't make sense to compare yourself to other women, especially women that have a different height and different bone structure. I personally found that I was a SD and it made me have so much more confidence. Now I know what looks good on me and it's takes out so much stress out of my life.
I think the people with issues may be still trying to compare themselves. This system has been so helpful for me to stop trying to be like the beautiful women around me and start appreciating my beautiful self. I hope every woman in the world gets to feel like that someday.
Everyone is offended if you do not say they're hourglass, and from the 60's to the 90's when no one WANTED to look curvy, they'd be offended if you said they were hourglass, people are silly

They even get offended that someone else than Kibbe dares to introduce the Kibbe system to an audience. Well, Kibbe is not god, and even Einstein's theories need to be communicated via professors. Einstein is not coming from the hereafter to explain his theories to you personally and that doesn't take away from the complexity of his theories. So, if dead intellectuals can put up with having their complex concepts being conveyed through educators, Kibbe can put up with his system being addressed by youtubers! 😄
I agree completely with your “I needed to be put in a category to feel comfortable “ statement. As a romantic, i always felt there was something wrong with my body until I discovered Kibbe’s system.
Many people feel that way. Many search a "failure" within themselves or in "the system" like modern fashion world when things don't work whereas in the end it is as simple that people are just differently built and we have tons of different cloth which looks very differently depending how your body is built. And the huge question is always the "why" in detail. Why looks this good and that not. And while it is technically true that everyone can wear what he wants and everyone is unique, it is a fact that we have a certain biology built sense of harmony and when a small dainty person is drowning in an oversized massiv coat or a long wide boned person is restrained from to many fussy exaggerated details it seems less harmonious. Because you work activly against the body. Whereas once you work WITH the body things seem more harmonious.
Yes, people have to acknowledge that there are natural boundaries to things. The only thing that's unlimited is the universe. All other things have limits to themselves. How can one be offended by being educated on the existing boundaries. A fish is a fish. If a fish wants to live on a tree, it will have to discover that it cannot do so. It's sheer stupidity to tell a fish that it can live outside water. "Dreams" have a limit, too: It's called reality.

You don't need to make a 30mn video to justify yourself because 5% of people who watch your videos got offended. Just keep going and think of us, the 95%, who love your work on kibbe!
Yeah probably like 99% vs 1% actually...remember - on the internet the people who scream the loudest get all the attention and therefore drown out the "silent majority." This give the impression that they represent way more people than they actually do. Remember - it's just the nature of the beast...those on the ends of the bell curve are always the most vocal.
To me, learning about the body types was a revelation. How long had I tried to imitate naturals because this body type has been on trend for so long...Also, I always felt "wrong" or boring because nothing about my body or my face sticks out. I am neither tall nor petite, neither sharp nor rounded, neither dry nor luscious...when I learnt I am a soft classic suddenly everything made sense and I could finally embrace my essence. Now I can use my balanced lines to my advantage.
Same here. After so much confusion and trying to look special, imitating gamines or drowning myself in natural oversize clothing, I've learned, that wearing "boring clothes" actually looks really good on me. Back then I saw Alys video, understood nothing at that time, did the test and the result was soft classic. I watched all the SC examples in Aly's videos, compared them with what I had worn in the past - and immediately understood, that I always felt pretty good when I had (unknowingly) worn clothes according to the SC ID. But the real revelation came when I read David's book and especially when I joined the Kibbe groups on FB. There's so much more to David Kibbe's system then "looking your best". Instead there's so much depth and truth and self discovering in it. Hard or impossible to understand for some, sad that they need to talk it down, or even David as a person, or the mods of the groups.

I am 168 cm tall and I have soft hourglass figure, I lean towards soft classic the most, cos I have no "too much" in me, it is all kind of balanced but at the same time I am not very angular. Me too! That confuses me a lot. The top examples for Dramatics are of women with straight waists and very sharp facial features. When I saw that Taylor Swift, who is very tall, ok, but has a defined waist, softer flesh and a doll-like face was a Dramatic and not a Soft Dramatic I was, and still am, confused. I’m looking forward to this video!

But she doesn't have any prominent curves, like a Soft Dramatic would. If you compare her to Soft Dramatic women, you 'll see the difference. So she is closer to the pure Dramatic
Don’t worry too much about upsetting people by “misrepresenting” Kibbe. I have always found the way you present the concept to be very organized and easy to understand. It makes sense the way you explain the material. I don’t know that much about “essence” yet, but having rather lost my sense of style (and a bit of who I was) and now rediscovering it, I was frustrated until I found your videos. I would find clothing I liked, but it didn’t look right when I put it on. By starting with the idea of figuring out what shapes, angles, and drape or stiffness suited my frame and flesh, I could more easily choose items to wear that I liked, and that also looked on me how I wanted them to look. I think you’re doing a great job.
Yes indeed! Aly, you've done great - the conclusions matter, but what matters more is hearing your thinking process, coupled with your amazing sense of organisation and combining insight (intellectual) with connection (emotional).
I think it comes across really clearly that you are trying to understand the system just like everybody else is.This means that sometimes we will misunderstand things on the way. I see many comments on read it and other places that you are recommended as a person to watch to understand more about kibbe because your approach is so thoughtful.

My personal experience is that I could never understand why some clothes/hairstyles looked amazing on other people and when I tried them on myself I was severely disappointed because I either looked like I was trying too hard, playing dress up, or looked like a boy. It ofc led to some personal insecurities as well. Learning about the Gamine body type was like a huge revelation because I could finally understand why! So now if I try something and I find that it just doesnt work, I'm just like "Oh, that could be the Gamine-ness". And the "rules" just help me to pay attention to what I can change about the look so that I like it more. So for me, it was more about understanding WHY things worked or didnt work rather than trying to find the "correct rules" to follow. Also, in terms of the test, one question asks about the length of your bones or something like that...my bf recently pointed out that I have relatively long arms and short legs so I guess I really am a mish-mash of things lol. No wonder why I couldnt decide what type of Gamine I am
All of this just to say that I like finding my "type" because it helps me understand "why" but I dont strictly live my life according to them and their rules because we come in all different shapes, sizes and combinations. And whether or not something looks "good" is highly subjective.

yeah so many from the hardcore DK fans criticised her, but seriously the topic isn't easy to understand and she alaways tries to be respectful and only thanks to her the idea of the system spread and helped so many people dressing and feeling better of themselves.
Seriously, there should be an updated version. People are now calling his own words misinformation, yet how should we read his mind or what? Following the book was the most respectful thing to do. And if there is no other clear source people are continuing to refer to it.

Just yesterday I read some posts in the Kibbe subreddit and in other blogs saying something like: people who teach Kibbe are mere interpreters and shouldn't be taken seriously because the only authorized voice is David Kibbe himself, and since he's still offering consultations (at $1,500 a day, apparently) we shouldn't be led astray by the likes of you. I thought it was very unfair to lump everyone together and also to imply that these interpreters are purposely misleading or even scamming us. I'd love to have the original source (his '80s book) but I can't afford it and it's also outdated, so relying on modern interpreters is super helpful. I learned about this system because of you and I'm immensely thankful because it has made me like and accept my body as it is. Everyone is bound to make mistakes now and then, even Kibbe, and so I don't think it's a problem as long as we acknowledge and correct them. I'm staying here and I can't wait to hear what your body type is!
@@BlackPinkize According to what I've read, David Kibbe offers a 3 day in-person (no Skype or long distance) consult, but sometimes he offers a 1 day consult as well. The prices vary from time to time and I've read that people in his Facebook group (Strictly Kibbe) may get a discount. Everyone's reluctant to talk about money, but one person mentioned that the 1 day consult was $1,500. They didn't specify if that's the base rate or what's included, because you're supposed to go shopping for new clothes and also get a new hairstyle. Another person said "In total, I spent probably about $4900 on my trip to NYC to see David, stay in the hotel, eat food, be transported around, get my hair done, and shop".
I think you taught many of us the most important thing: self acceptance. Knowing that I am different but can still beautiful. I am still valid, even though I don't fit the mould of fashion. I learned that because you were honest about the differences. There is beauty in every shape.
I trust you and your interpretation of the book more than I trust Kibbe nowadays. I feel like he's going on weird tangents ("be yourself" and blah blah blah) because he's not as sure as he was about his theory.

Your videos changed my perception of my body. I used to hate the way I looked and felt so uncomfortable in my skin but since discovering Kibbe through you it started me on my self love journey. Now I have a lot more confidence and love for my appearance. I see the types as a guide
I find it so sad that creators have to explain themselves this way so that no one is offended. I have learned so much from you and I understand the kind of language you use. Tbh, you may understand the topic more than Kibbe himself. Sometimes, the feelings are more important than measurments and exact descriptions.
Your videos helped me a lot 🥰. I think your interpretation of kibbe's work is already superior to his work. It is not unusual for a student to best his teacher. I'm very insecure about my body but I've never felt offended by you. I think you are very respectful and kind. When a person gets offended by what you say it has more to do with that person's emotional baggage than with you.

Kibbe recommendations (even though I believe I was not quite on the mark) have REALLY helped me save money and not be frustrated with clothing purchases that I later realize don’t work for me. Style ID makes trends and clothing choices not so overwhelming
I think the biggest struggle for people trying to figure out the kibbe system is training their eyes to see the differences he talks about. it doesn't happen overnight, and it takes a lot of time a dedication to understand exactly what he means. it took me years to type myself accurately and see the differences of angles in people. it can definitely be frustrating
The most important thing I learned from your videos, and Kibbe is that I can follow my own body and style, instead of feeling that I need to CORRECT something about my body!
Thanks to Kibbe and your way of interpreting the book, I finally understood why some makeup looks look so bad on me even though my makeup skills are fairly okay. I stopped trying to follow trends and started embracing my natural lines of the face with the help of makeup.
Aly, you are incredible. When you started the body type series, you put into better words while using contemporary examples why certain clothing and styles looked good, bad, awful, or incredible on me. A shout out to David Kibbe as well as yourself for making me feel wonderful the way I am and for teaching me to accentuate my unique assets. You've also been very clear that this was David Kibbe's work and, personally, I know it was never your intention to offend or provide a strict set of rules that could never be broken or we'd become ugly stepsisters. I'm still not 100% certain on my body type but I'm trying shapes, styles, and fabrics that I feel will accentuate what I know I DO have and what makes me feel good. I'm not quite there yet but I know it's a process. I believe people need to approach this system from a more organic point of view and quit seeing it from a strict, legalistic do's and don'ts of fashion policing - which is why we looked to the body types system in the first place. Finally, I think David Kibbe should speak on more contemporary, accessible platforms about these matters himself. But, to each their own. Anyway, thank you Aly for sharing your heart and for your kindness.
I never felt like myself until I saw your videos. You helped me find out that I was Theatrical Romantic. People are too easily offended and I do not know why they watch your videos simply to complain. Clearly the video was made for us who enjoys having a category. Thank you Aly for doing these videos! I've been following your channel specifically for the Kibbe series for a while now and I just want to say it has definitely changed the way I perceive my appearance. I never really got to the point of being "obsessed" with the body types because I never completely related to the lines Kibbe assigned the body I typed myself as. However I was eager to learn more because of how much this system has made me change my view on styling and human bodies in general. Much of that learning I did through your videos so I am happy to witness your journey and update my knowledge alongside you. Aly, I want to let you know that I struggle with eating disorders and body image issues and your videos literally changed my life because they helped me see the beauty, the femininity, the glam, the decadence of my body type (romantic). I feel like modern fashion trends are not catering towards romantic body types, so I just feel encouraged to go to the past for inspiration and I'm loving it so much. Trust me the people who are unhappy with your content are a loud minority, your videos have had such an amazing positive impact on me as I'm sure lots of other people will agree. It finally clicked today what body “type” I am after rewatching all of your videos over and over again (maybe I should consider going to source material). How it clicked finally was thinking about my essence more deeply, how others viewed me, and how I viewed myself. I thought about how my fiancé sees me and how babies and dogs see me. I viewed the differences in my body growing up always feeling like my frame was “thick” while still being 5’1. Finally understood why I could be super dainty but still feel more “body”. It clicked that I have a romantic body if I have to chose one of them, and I am extremely satisfied and at peace with this. I’m excited to embrace my femininity and what my “essence is”.
I hate the cattiness around kibbe. People love to throw shade and act like they themselves are the experts, or attack more prominent channels/sites to gain cheap credibility. I can't afford a trip to NYC and getting typed in person, and anyone who tells me ally, merriam, and all the others are hurting me and not helping are full of it! Sorry, but i love these ladies because they take the essence of Dk's lovely heart and brilliant oberservations and make them available to us. From there we can run with it and make the look that we want, and i think that's what it's all about! Aly does an excellent job of respectfully and lovingly describing each type and person and letting us compare / contrast to develop an eye for ourselves without saying one is better than another. That is so valuable!! I love having general principles for online shopping, outfit building, and giving informed opinions if others ask me my thoughts. Merriam has diverted somewhat from "pure" Kibbe and created her own system; for example her understanding of height and vertical line is quite different than Kibbe's, but I agree her videos are very helpful. I wish instead of bashing them, David Kibbe or another "authorized voice" would correct their mistakes and clarify misconceptions.
Definitely agree! Getting dressed should be fun, and these are tools that enable us to achieve flattering looks. Anyone who is territorial or hostile about this information confuses me... we’re not here to be judgemental and feed our own ego. We benefit more from being open-minded and helping each other out. It’s hard enough as it is lol.
@@rdpcl i agree! I appreciate marriam because she has a technical approach whereas Kibbe's is less technical. Obviously both are valuable but when getting my mind around my type and ID'ing lines, i like merriam's way of describing since it's more precise. I love DK and Aly as well because i think their emotional/personal touch really puts the technical knowledge into perspective and help me not to take things too seriously or get frustrated. I think everyone has something to add to the conversation as long as their heart is in the right place and they have a grasp of the lines/essences/etc. P.s. i am so with you, i wish DK was direct with addressing others who talk about the types. I feel like he kind of scares people off from discussing it and discredits people who love what he has created and just want to share it with others? He seems like such a positive and accepting soul, so i assume his reaction to others typing each other is in good faith(?)

When I first found you, I felt like you were very interested in showing women that every body structure can be beautiful and showcase your unique features instead of trying to look like one standard, which I think is absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much for encouraging others to stop trying to look like one ideal and instead embrace themselves and other types, seeing the beauty in everyone. I still don't like my broad shoulders (I'm a Soft Natural), and I dress in ways to minimize them, but it's nice to know that there are those that love and embrace their broad shoulders as something beautiful.
Aly, I rarely comment on videos but I wanted to let you know that your Kibbe videos and interpretation of his theory helped me a lot all those years ago and I watch them to this day. I always struggled to understand why most clothes and hairstyles look bad on me, especially more feminine things just made me look ridiculous when I’ve seen all this other people looking great in them. When I discovered I was a gamine it all just made sense. Now I know what to wear to make me look good and also not feel like a 12 yo boy in his mother’s clothes. And I’m extremely thankful for that! I used to think there was something wrong with me and my body but now I know what works for me and I’m happy with my style. To all the people getting offended by the word “avoid” it’s not like anyone is making you follow this rules. To listen to them or not is 100% your choice so there’s no need to get offended.

I see the pure Naturals, Gamines and Classics as well! I was confused when David Kibbe said he wasn't using those anymore. I have typed my close family and friends just for my own understanding of the Kibbe system and some of them are the pure types and I could not put them in any other categorie.

After visiting his Facebook page and seeing pictures of his wife or partner, I logged off and continued watching Aly’s videos. His wife is supposed to be a theatrical romantic but I would expect to see someone looking their best, especially his wife, and what I noticed was her clothes, not her. The clothes wears her in my opinion. I showed it to others and they agreed. I like Alys way of teaching what she sees and interprets from Kibbe. I also think Aly May be a FG.
The clothes of his wife are not even for TRs, sometimes they are stiff and cartoonish, Kibbe's clothes too, I think they try to be very loud for marketing reasons. I just can't get the reasons of what they are doing lol they are so weird and when I try ti read them in facebook I and up more confused, like, my native language its not english BUT they write worse than me lol, I can not get what they are saying, they don't use grammar at all and their style of communication is just bizarre to me.

you’re such a sweetheart Aly. I’ve been watching you since you started these videos, I was a teenager. I remember I thought I was a classic first based on the test (i’m not). I’m literally 5’1. then, I thought theatrical romantic for a while. now, i’m pretty confident on Soft Gamine based on my body and also the style components. i try to explain Kibbe to people and I really value the rules of Kibbe and wish people could understand what each one means.
I learned about the Kibbe typing method thanks to you and it has completely changed my perspective on clothes and feeling good with what you have. After months of experimenting I finally found what works for me and understood my lines. I always felt more "Yang" in my appearance and now I learned how to use this to express my kind of feminine! Yes! This makes so much sense. I don’t know whether I am SC or SD (height nearer SD, essence more SC) but it doesn’t matter. I am simply applying basic guidelines: soft shapes, waist emphasis, neat & polished, etc and it’s working! 😊 I am getting my eye in, and when an outfit doesn’t work, I now know why. I think we don’t need a really strict understanding, we just need to get a “feel” for the principles of Kibbe, both our bone structure and essence merged with our personal style to look our individual best.

I've found your Kibbe videos to be so helpful! They have literally the only fashion advice that has made sense to me... I'm still a little confused about what my type might be, but I've been able to get rid of a lot of things that I now know for sure don't suit me, and I love my closet so much more now!
Before I ever knew about this theory I used to think that there was something wrong with my body, now I've realized that there's nothing wrong with me, it's just the clothes that I used to choose that didn't fit me as well as other body types. Even though many get it wrong sometimes, so does Kibbe, he has changed some of his typing. So in my view, getting things wrong is the beginning to eventually getting it right. With more people, analyzing it it will make it evolve. Much better to have more than one mind thinking about something. There are even some people that I think understand the types better than him even kk. Anyways the system didn't start with him and so I think it shouldn't end with him. Things are supposed to evolve. I read once somewhere "theory follows reality, not reality follows theory", or something like that.
I get almost 50%-50% C and Ds when I do the Kibbe test, but I am convinced my big crooked nose throws off my entire type. And no celebrities have a big nose so I struggle to type myself by comparing.
To my understanding the modern interpretation of Kibbe no longer takes facial features into consideration, only the body. Since your fave doesn’t affect how clothes fall on your body it isn’t necessary.
Remember that your type is about the overall balance of yin and yang, not individual features. One facial feature may contribute to your overall yin-yang balance, but it won't sway you to one type or another. A romantic is still a romantic if she has a pointy nose, a dramatic is still a dramatic if she has a round nose, and so on. Also a good point by Lulu that facial features aren't important for your ID since you don't dress your face.
Please. There are many notably beautiful women - incl. actresses and models - who have prominent and / or crooked noses. Don't think about yours too much :) I'm sure people around you don't even notice as much as you do. Whatever your type will turn out to be, I'm sure you'll feel beautiful in your lines, both in your body and face.
When I discovered Kibbe few years ago, I found his system revolutionary and liberating, even though it is categorizing. I finally understood my body and stopped fighting it.or wasting money on clothes that could never work for me. It is a very honest system, so in order for it to work, one must be willing to see their body as it is, and accept it with all the "flaws". Keep up the good work Aly and don't apologize.
First of all to the people who don't understand: David Kibbe never claimed he was the one who was the originator this whole yin/yang theory of the bodies. There are several other systems like Kitchener, McJimsey etc. Anyone can interpret it however they want, create their own system (Body Geometry, Truth is Beauty etc.) BUT. The only problem when people start to offering consultations usually for money, spreading misinformations ("tall gamines/romantics" and all that good stuff) under the name of David Kibbe. David said himself that no one is qualified/trained/licensed to do that. Anyone can make their own yin yang system and do their own idea, but don't call it Kibbe because it is not, it's that simple. I saw some very funky paid "typing" on Kibbe subreddit by Merriam, CozyRebekah and their "friends" (I'm talking about 5'8"-5'10" SGs and TRs) and it's very sad that these people are getting 100$+ for their nonsense. To be clear, I'm not talking about Aly here, i personally think she is one of the best out there who can understand the system decently, and does not "sell" consultations (as far a i know)
personally, unless kibbe himself said the limit was 5"8 for gamines and romantics... i believe only women over 5'10" cant be those thing . audrey hepburn was typed as a gamine by kibbe himself. she is 5'7". are you really going to sit here and tell me that the 1 or 2 inch difference between some one who is 5'7" and 5'8" - 5'9" is going to stop them from being typed as romantic or gamine? no. 1-2 inches is barely noticeable on most people. while i agree that very tall women cant really be typed as gamine or romantic. the only place in the world 5'8" is considered to be quite tall is in asian cultures and america. the whole of europe/africa and most islands, the average height of women is 5'7".

Kibbe doesn’t even consider their heights. He also typed celebrities by using faces only, so it’s not to be taken seriously. They’re style inspirations for the image ID they’re representing.

I agree that people should not be charging other people money to be consulted about their Kibbe type. If not simply for the fact that it is not their place to be making money with someone else's name. Free typing? Sure. Being paid to style someone according to their Kibbe type after they've discovered their type on their own? Sure. But charging people money simply to "be typed" is unethical, in my opinion (and probably not legal? not sure).

About the height thing... many people does not seem to understand that, let's say 5'8" will be 5'8" in Asia and in America as well (and any other part of world as well). In my opinion, David Kibbe wants to be the only voice for his theory, and casts doubt on anyone else. They can't know because they are not him. This is nonsense. He wrote a book, so that people can study it and know it for themselves.

What's so bizarre about it is that ying/yang body geometry started before him. Natural, Romantic, Dramatic, Ingenue, Gamine, and Classic archetypes where already outlined by other authors.
He made it in a way that we’ll never know for sure unless we see him in person, some SNs reveals I think are tiny everywhere and he sees width in them; ‘Style Thoughts by Rita’ makes vids here about his system thought she was a SN, but was typed FN...
No one has ever explained better the necessity of comparison; it doesn't have a negative connotation at all. Science is based on comparing data. To understand certain information, we need to compare it to other, similar information. Negative connotation only comes when we assert that A concept is the only correct one to explain certain things. In this case, all body types are beautiful; it's only categories.
You helped me a lot Aly. I think that if someone is already satisfied with everything about him/herself shouldn't look for advice about self-improvement and also should not criticize the person that is helping those who want and needs those advices.
All my life i tried to fit, to find what defines my body. The explanations never was completely satisfactory till you start to talk about this! Really helps me a lot to understand my shape and feel more secure about it.
I have learned to appreciate my lines, my body through Kibbe method. I don’t type myself accordingly anymore, but I really appreciate the style guide from his method. Now I wear TR clothes because it feels best on me, and that’s it, I don’t need a label to dress well.

It was a woman (McJimsey) and no one calls him on it and instead he and his strict followers come for others who have similar interpretations.

I honestly don't understand why some people feel offended, this method is probably the least problematic of them all. It makes you understand that it doesn't make sense to compare yourself to other women, especially women that have a different height and different bone structure.
I personally found that I was a SD and it made me have so much more confidence. Now I know what looks good on me and it's takes out so much stress out of my life.

Many people feel that way. Many search a "failure" within themselves or in "the system" like modern fashion world when things don't work whereas in the end it is as simple that people are just differently built and we have tons of different cloth which looks very differently depending how your body is built. And the huge question is always the "why" in detail. Why looks this good and that not.
And while it is technically true that everyone can wear what he wants and everyone is unique, it is a fact that we have a certain biology built sense of harmony and when a small dainty person is drowning in an oversized massiv coat or a long wide boned person is restrained from to many fussy exaggerated details it seems less harmonious. Because you work activly against the body. Whereas once you work WITH the body things seem more harmonious.

Yes, people have to acknowledge that there are natural boundaries to things. The only thing that's unlimited is the universe. All other things have limits to themselves. How can one be offended by being educated on the existing boundaries. A fish is a fish. If a fish wants to live on a tree, it will have to discover that it cannot do so. It's sheer stupidity to tell a fish that it can live outside water. "Dreams" have a limit, too: It's called reality.

To me, learning about the body types was a revelation. How long had I tried to imitate naturals because this body type has been on trend for so long...Also, I always felt "wrong" or boring because nothing about my body or my face sticks out. I am neither tall nor petite, neither sharp nor rounded, neither dry nor luscious...when I learnt I am a soft classic suddenly everything made sense and I could finally embrace my essence. Now I can use my balanced lines to my advantage.
Same here. After so much confusion and trying to look special, imitating gamines or drowning myself in natural oversize clothing, I've learned, that wearing "boring clothes" actually looks really good on me. Back then I saw Alys video, understood nothing at that time, did the test and the result was soft classic. I watched all the SC examples in Aly's videos, compared them with what I had worn in the past - and immediately understood, that I always felt pretty good when I had (unknowingly) worn clothes according to the SC ID. But the real revelation came when I read David's book and especially when I joined the Kibbe groups on FB. There's so much more to David Kibbe's system then "looking your best". Instead there's so much depth and truth and self discovering in it. Hard or impossible to understand for some, sad that they need to talk it down, or even David as a person, or the mods of the groups.

Don’t worry too much about upsetting people by “misrepresenting” Kibbe. I have always found the way you present the concept to be very organized and easy to understand. It makes sense the way you explain the material.
I don’t know that much about “essence” yet, but having rather lost my sense of style (and a bit of who I was) and now rediscovering it, I was frustrated until I found your videos. I would find clothing I liked, but it didn’t look right when I put it on. By starting with the idea of figuring out what shapes, angles, and drape or stiffness suited my frame and flesh, I could more easily choose items to wear that I liked, and that also looked on me how I wanted them to look.

Yes indeed! Aly, you've done great - the conclusions matter, but what matters more is hearing your thinking process, coupled with your amazing sense of organisation and combining insight (intellectual) with connection (emotional).

My personal experience is that I could never understand why some clothes/hairstyles looked amazing on other people and when I tried them on myself I was severely disappointed because I either looked like I was trying too hard, playing dress up, or looked like a boy. It ofc led to some personal insecurities as well. Learning about the Gamine body type was like a huge revelation because I could finally understand why! So now if I try something and I find that it just doesnt work, I'm just like "Oh, that could be the Gamine-ness". And the "rules" just help me to pay attention to what I can change about the look so that I like it more. So for me, it was more about understanding WHY things worked or didnt work rather than trying to find the "correct rules" to follow.
Also, in terms of the test, one question asks about the length of your bones or something like that...my bf recently pointed out that I have relatively long arms and short legs so I guess I really am a mish-mash of things lol. No wonder why I couldnt decide what type of Gamine I am
All of this just to say that I like finding my "type" because it helps me understand "why" but I dont strictly live my life according to them and their rules because we come in all different shapes, sizes and combinations. And whether or not something looks "good" is highly subjective.

Just yesterday I read some posts in the Kibbe subreddit and in other blogs saying something like: people who teach Kibbe are mere interpreters and shouldn't be taken seriously because the only authorized voice is David Kibbe himself, and since he's still offering consultations (at $1,500 a day, apparently) we shouldn't be led astray by the likes of you. I thought it was very unfair to lump everyone together and also to imply that these interpreters are purposely misleading or even scamming us.
I'd love to have the original source (his '80s book) but I can't afford it and it's also outdated, so relying on modern interpreters is super helpful. I learned about this system because of you and I'm immensely thankful because it has made me like and accept my body as it is. Everyone is bound to make mistakes now and then, even Kibbe, and so I don't think it's a problem as long as we acknowledge and correct them. I'm staying here and I can't wait to hear what your body type is!

@@BlackPinkize According to what I've read, David Kibbe offers a 3 day in-person (no Skype or long distance) consult, but sometimes he offers a 1 day consult as well. The prices vary from time to time and I've read that people in his Facebook group (Strictly Kibbe) may get a discount. Everyone's reluctant to talk about money, but one person mentioned that the 1 day consult was $1,500. They didn't specify if that's the base rate or what's included, because you're supposed to go shopping for new clothes and also get a new hairstyle. Another person said "In total, I spent probably about $4900 on my trip to NYC to see David, stay in the hotel, eat food, be transported around, get my hair done, and shop".

Kibbe recommendations (even though I believe I was not quite on the mark) have REALLY helped me save money and not be frustrated with clothing purchases that I later realize don’t work for me. Style ID makes trends and clothing choices not so overwhelming
I think the biggest struggle for people trying to figure out the kibbe system is training their eyes to see the differences he talks about. it doesn't happen overnight, and it takes a lot of time a dedication to understand exactly what he means. it took me years to type myself accurately and see the differences of angles in people. it can definitely be frustrating

Thanks to Kibbe and your way of interpreting the book, I finally understood why some makeup looks look so bad on me even though my makeup skills are fairly okay. I stopped trying to follow trends and started embracing my natural lines of the face with the help of makeup.

Aly, you are incredible. When you started the body type series, you put into better words while using contemporary examples why certain clothing and styles looked good, bad, awful, or incredible on me. A shout out to David Kibbe as well as yourself for making me feel wonderful the way I am and for teaching me to accentuate my unique assets. You've also been very clear that this was David Kibbe's work and, personally, I know it was never your intention to offend or provide a strict set of rules that could never be broken or we'd become ugly stepsisters. I'm still not 100% certain on my body type but I'm trying shapes, styles, and fabrics that I feel will accentuate what I know I DO have and what makes me feel good. I'm not quite there yet but I know it's a process. I believe people need to approach this system from a more organic point of view and quit seeing it from a strict, legalistic do's and don'ts of fashion policing - which is why we looked to the body types system in the first place. Finally, I think David Kibbe should speak on more contemporary, accessible platforms about these matters himself. But, to each their own. Anyway, thank you Aly for sharing your heart and for your kindness.

I've been following your channel specifically for the Kibbe series for a while now and I just want to say it has definitely changed the way I perceive my appearance. I never really got to the point of being "obsessed" with the body types because I never completely related to the lines Kibbe assigned the body I typed myself as. However I was eager to learn more because of how much this system has made me change my view on styling and human bodies in general. Much of that learning I did through your videos so I am happy to witness your journey and update my knowledge alongside you. Thank you for sharing with us this information and putting so much effort into this project.
Aly, I want to let you know that I struggle with eating disorders and body image issues and your videos literally changed my life because they helped me see the beauty, the femininity, the glam, the decadence of my body type (romantic). I feel like modern fashion trends are not catering towards romantic body types, so I just feel encouraged to go to the past for inspiration and I'm loving it so much. Trust me the people who are unhappy with your content are a loud minority, your videos have had such an amazing positive impact on me as I'm sure lots of other people will agree. It finally clicked today what body “type” I am after rewatching all of your videos over and over again (maybe I should consider going to source material). How it clicked finally was thinking about my essence more deeply, how others viewed me, and how I viewed myself. I thought about how my fiancé sees me and how babies and dogs see me. I viewed the differences in my body growing up always feeling like my frame was “thick” while still being 5’1. Finally understood why I could be super dainty but still feel more “body”. It clicked that I have a romantic body if I have to chose one of them, and I am extremely satisfied and at peace with this. I’m excited to embrace my femininity and what my “essence is”.

I hate the cattiness around kibbe. People love to throw shade and act like they themselves are the experts, or attack more prominent channels/sites to gain cheap credibility. I can't afford a trip to NYC and getting typed in person, and anyone who tells me ally, merriam, and all the others are hurting me and not helping are full of it! Sorry, but i love these ladies because they take the essence of Dk's lovely heart and brilliant oberservations and make them available to us. From there we can run with it and make the look that we want, and i think that's what it's all about! Aly does an excellent job of respectfully and lovingly describing each type and person and letting us compare / contrast to develop an eye for ourselves without saying one is better than another. That is so valuable!! I love having general principles for online shopping, outfit building, and giving informed opinions if others ask me my thoughts. Merriam has diverted somewhat from "pure" Kibbe and created her own system; for example her understanding of height and vertical line is quite different than Kibbe's, but I agree her videos are very helpful. I wish instead of bashing them, David Kibbe or another "authorized voice" would correct their mistakes and clarify misconceptions.
Definitely agree! Getting dressed should be fun, and these are tools that enable us to achieve flattering looks. Anyone who is territorial or hostile about this information confuses me... we’re not here to be judgemental and feed our own ego. We benefit more from being open-minded and helping each other out. It’s hard enough as it is lol.
@@rdpcl i agree! I appreciate marriam because she has a technical approach whereas Kibbe's is less technical. Obviously both are valuable but when getting my mind around my type and ID'ing lines, i like merriam's way of describing since it's more precise. I love DK and Aly as well because i think their emotional/personal touch really puts the technical knowledge into perspective and help me not to take things too seriously or get frustrated. I think everyone has something to add to the conversation as long as their heart is in the right place and they have a grasp of the lines/essences/etc.
P.s. i am so with you, i wish DK was direct with addressing others who talk about the types. I feel like he kind of scares people off from discussing it and discredits people who love what he has created and just want to share it with others? He seems like such a positive and accepting soul, so i assume his reaction to others typing each other is in good faith(?)

When I first found you, I felt like you were very interested in showing women that every body structure can be beautiful and showcase your unique features instead of trying to look like one standard, which I think is absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much for encouraging others to stop trying to look like one ideal and instead embrace themselves and other types, seeing the beauty in everyone.
I still don't like my broad shoulders (I'm a Soft Natural), and I dress in ways to minimize them, but it's nice to know that there are those that love and embrace their broad shoulders as something beautiful.

Aly, I rarely comment on videos but I wanted to let you know that your Kibbe videos and interpretation of his theory helped me a lot all those years ago and I watch them to this day. I always struggled to understand why most clothes and hairstyles look bad on me, especially more feminine things just made me look ridiculous when I’ve seen all this other people looking great in them. When I discovered I was a gamine it all just made sense. Now I know what to wear to make me look good and also not feel like a 12 yo boy in his mother’s clothes. And I’m extremely thankful for that! I used to think there was something wrong with me and my body but now I know what works for me and I’m happy with my style.
To all the people getting offended by the word “avoid” it’s not like anyone is making you follow this rules. To listen to them or not is 100% your choice so there’s no need to get offended.

I see the pure Naturals, Gamines and Classics as well! I was confused when David Kibbe said he wasn't using those anymore. I have typed my close family and friends just for my own understanding of the Kibbe system and some of them are the pure types and I could not put them in any other categorie.

After visiting his Facebook page and seeing pictures of his wife or partner, I logged off and continued watching Aly’s videos. His wife is supposed to be a theatrical romantic but I would expect to see someone looking their best, especially his wife, and what I noticed was her clothes, not her. The clothes wears her in my opinion. I showed it to others and they agreed. I like Alys way of teaching what she sees and interprets from Kibbe. I also think Aly May be a FG.

The clothes of his wife are not even for TRs, sometimes they are stiff and cartoonish, Kibbe's clothes too, I think they try to be very loud for marketing reasons. I just can't get the reasons of what they are doing lol they are so weird and when I try ti read them in facebook I and up more confused, like, my native language its not english BUT they write worse than me lol, I can not get what they are saying, they don't use grammar at all and their style of communication is just bizarre to me.

I’m literally 5’1. then, I thought theatrical romantic for a while. now, i’m pretty confident on Soft Gamine based on my body and also the style components. i try to explain Kibbe to people and I really value the rules of Kibbe and wish people could understand what each one means.
I learned about the Kibbe typing method thanks to you and it has completely changed my perspective on clothes and feeling good with what you have. After months of experimenting I finally found what works for me and understood my lines. I always felt more "Yang" in my appearance and now I learned how to use this to express my kind of feminine! Yes! This makes so much sense. I don’t know whether I am SC or SD (height nearer SD, essence more SC) but it doesn’t matter. I am simply applying basic guidelines: soft shapes, waist emphasis, neat & polished, etc and it’s working! 😊 I am getting my eye in, and when an outfit doesn’t work, I now know why. I think we don’t need a really strict understanding, we just need to get a “feel” for the principles of Kibbe, both our bone structure and essence merged with our personal style to look our individual best.

I've been following this series ever since you started it and I've really been trying to understand this theory, but I was never confident that I got it-- but THIS! I've found your Kibbe videos to be so helpful! They have literally the only fashion advice that has made sense to me... I'm still a little confused about what my type might be, but I've been able to get rid of a lot of things that I now know for sure don't suit me, and I love my closet so much more now!

Before I ever knew about this theory I used to think that there was something wrong with my body, now I've realized that there's nothing wrong with me, it's just the clothes that I used to choose that didn't fit me as well as other body types. I think it's good that everybody started doing this and eventually some even going against his typing and stuff. Even though many get it wrong sometimes, so does Kibbe, he has changed some of his typing. So in my view, getting things wrong is the beginning to eventually getting it right. With more people, analyzing it it will make it evolve. Much better to have more than one mind thinking about something. There are even some people that I think understand the types better than him even kk. Anyways the system didn't start with him and so I think it shouldn't end with him. Things are supposed to evolve. I read once somewhere "theory follows reality, not reality follows theory", or something like that.

I get almost 50%-50% C and Ds when I do the Kibbe test, but I am convinced my big crooked nose throws off my entire type. And no celebrities have a big nose so I struggle to type myself by comparing.
To my understanding the modern interpretation of Kibbe no longer takes facial features into consideration, only the body. Since your fave doesn’t affect how clothes fall on your body it isn’t necessary.
Remember that your type is about the overall balance of yin and yang, not individual features. One facial feature may contribute to your overall yin-yang balance, but it won't sway you to one type or another. A romantic is still a romantic if she has a pointy nose, a dramatic is still a dramatic if she has a round nose, and so on.
Also a good point by Lulu that facial features aren't important for your ID since you don't dress your face.
Please. There are many notably beautiful women - incl. actresses and models - who have prominent and / or crooked noses. Don't think about yours too much :) I'm sure people around you don't even notice as much as you do. Whatever your type will turn out to be, I'm sure you'll feel beautiful in your lines, both in your body and face.

When I discovered Kibbe few years ago, I found his system revolutionary and liberating, even though it is categorizing. I finally understood my body and stopped fighting it.or wasting money on clothes that could never work for me. It is a very honest system, so in order for it to work, one must be willing to see their body as it is, and accept it with all the "flaws". Keep up the good work Aly and don't apologize.
First of all to the people who don't understand: David Kibbe never claimed he was the one who was the originator this whole yin/yang theory of the bodies. There are several other systems like Kitchener, McJimsey etc.
Anyone can interpret it however they want, create their own system (Body Geometry, Truth is Beauty etc.) BUT.
The only problem when people start to offering consultations usually for money, spreading misinformations ("tall gamines/romantics" and all that good stuff) under the name of David Kibbe. David said himself that no one is qualified/trained/licensed to do that. Anyone can make their own yin yang system and do their own idea, but don't call it Kibbe because it is not, it's that simple.
I saw some very funky paid "typing" on Kibbe subreddit by Merriam, CozyRebekah and their "friends"
(I'm talking about 5'8"-5'10" SGs and TRs) and it's very sad that these people are getting 100$+ for their nonsense.
To be clear, I'm not talking about Aly here, i personally think she is one of the best out there who can understand the system decently, and does not "sell" consultations (as far a i know)
personally, unless kibbe himself said the limit was 5"8 for gamines and romantics... i believe only women over 5'10" cant be those thing . audrey hepburn was typed as a gamine by kibbe himself. she is 5'7". are you really going to sit here and tell me that the 1 or 2 inch difference between some one who is 5'7" and 5'8" - 5'9" is going to stop them from being typed as romantic or gamine? no. 1-2 inches is barely noticeable on most people. while i agree that very tall women cant really be typed as gamine or romantic. the only place in the world 5'8" is considered to be quite tall is in asian cultures and america. the whole of europe/africa and most islands, the average height of women is 5'7".
@@bethanyday3471 The height limit is 5’5” for gamines and romantics. Also: celebrity typing is not to be taken seriously because they embody the image ID through their celebrity image only. Kibbe doesn’t even consider their heights. He also typed celebrities by using faces only, so it’s not to be taken seriously. They’re style inspirations for the image ID they’re representing.
@@bethanyday3471 I have this problem; I'm 5'7' and either a dramatic or a FG, but FG looks better on me (fitted clothes/ tulip skirts, broken lines, high neckline, high contrast vivid colours, asymmetric hemlines, cropped fitted tops). I suppose I am mixed due to a long torso and shorter legs.
I agree that people should not be charging other people money to be consulted about their Kibbe type. If not simply for the fact that it is not their place to be making money with someone else's name. Free typing? Sure. Being paid to style someone according to their Kibbe type after they've discovered their type on their own? Sure. But charging people money simply to "be typed" is unethical, in my opinion (and probably not legal? not sure).

What's so bizarre about it is that ying/yang body geometry started before him. Natural, Romantic, Dramatic, Ingenue, Gamine, and Classic archetypes where already outlined by other authors.
He made it in a way that we’ll never know for sure unless we see him in person, some SNs reveals I think are tiny everywhere and he sees width in them; ‘Style Thoughts by Rita’ makes vids here about his system thought she was a SN, but was typed FN...
No one has ever explained better the necessity of comparison; it doesn't have a negative connotation at all. Science is based on comparing data. To understand certain information, we need to compare it to other, similar information. Negative connotation only comes when we assert that A concept is the only correct one to explain certain things. In this case, all body types are beautiful; it's only categories.
You helped me a lot Aly. I think that if someone is already satisfied with everything about him/herself shouldn't look for advice about self-improvement and also should not criticize the person that is helping those who want and needs those advices.

I have learned to appreciate my lines, my body through Kibbe method. I don’t type myself accordingly anymore, but I really appreciate the style guide from his method. Now I wear TR clothes because it feels best on me, and that’s it, I don’t need a label to dress well.

I can see how the massive spread of information online could be a threat to his business though, so I understand his need to claim he's the only one that can do it. @@thekatvita What's absolutely ironic is that David Kibbe isn't even the originator of this kind of yin-yang classifcation, nor is the originator of the categories or language. It was a woman (McJimsey) and no one calls him on it and instead he and his strict followers come for others who have similar interpretations.
Some of the cult followers have been trolling the recent video and saying things like: "Kibbe has advised us to not listen to Aly and other youtubers." Or: "You don't know anything about Kibbe's system, unless you've joined the Facebook group, and you're not even entitled to talking about or discussing the body types otherwise."
At least I had this weird interaction with a troll under Aly's recent video. I asked her why she was there, if she wasn't supposed to be here...
