Dude, love this video, I “was” a Benchmade hard core loyal buyer for 23 years, I tried Spyderco, Cold Steel, Kershaw, I even had a Hinderer, but just loved Benchmade, then this year I broke down and drove over 3 hours to buy a large Sebenza 21, holy freakin crap, “You have to hold one.” Ditto. I paid almost 300.00 for a small Benchmade Monoblock titanium frame lock. It is a piece of doo doo compared to the Sebenza. Great video dude.

Bought my Sebenza when Chris Reeves was still making them by hand before CNC machines still have it , think it was 1999 when I got it . Damascus blade and one of a kind design in the titanium scale on show side. Have bought hundreds of custom ,and high end factory knives since. The Sebenza is still my favorite. I'll never get rid of it. If the house burns down I'll grab it and my Randall 14 attack and I'm good to go.

The thing about high end knives of any type that people complaining about the price don't seem to understand is that you get so much more than the knife. Your buying a work of art made by a master craftsman that shouldn't be held in any lower regard than a painting, furniture, a car or anything else. Knives just have a stigma of being a hunting or boy scout tool when it's actually so much more than that. Until you understand that Chris Reeve is renowned for his unwavering pursuit of perfection and that transfers into him pushing companies to make better, higher quality steel, which makes for sharper knives that are superior in every aspect and have incredible quality, he's also known for demanding stringent almost aero space spec tolerances and unmatched customer service. So yes the knives are expensive but until you've experienced and understand that there is definitely a difference then you have to take other purchasers word for it and if that doesn't sway you, then you can Google all the awards Chris Reeve has won over the years. Just my two pennies on the topic, don't knock them completely until you experience one first hand.

You're right. Always go for the expensive, 'real deal' product. In my life that goes for watches, wallets, audio stuff, guitars and knives. No use in buying any of those luxury items if you hold back on yourself in terms of cost and brand. You'll end up with buyers remorse and will still be longing for that particular brand that you wanted in the first place. Plus: spending is good for the economy :D

    • @Sanguivore
      @Sanguivore Месяц назад +1

You're absolutely right about that, my friend. I've spent the money on lesser products, hoping for a good deal and searching for 'the one,' only to end up spending *way* more in the long-run than just going with the top-of-the-line stuff in the first place. Buy once, cry once, be happy for life.

Great video, Here’s my 2 cents, not bragging by any means it just happens in time when you’ve been in the hobby 25+ years. I’ve owned, bought, sold and traded roughly 2,100+ different Folders, Flippers and OTF’s. If it’s true that it takes 10,000 hours to be an expert in any specific field I’m well beyond that. Again, not bragging just simply loves knives.
If someone was to ask me ‘ If you had to spend all $500 on 1 pocket knife what knife would you choose?’ I would pick a Sebenza. However there’s still room for much engineering improvement, that would make the knife lighter but stronger, improvements to make it last longer and lock bar percentage adjustable with wear. Also ergonomics could be improved that would make the knife even more comfortable at the same time lighter, the pocket clip location could also be slightly moved towards the end of the knife for a more discrete carry along with a slimmer and shorter pocket clip. Which I custom make. I specialize in Custom designed Shorty Premium Grade Titanium Pocket Clips for many knives. That won’t loose spring tension like many Titanium Pocket Clips especially aftermarket pocket clips, part of whole reason I started making my own 15 years ago. I hate loooong, shiny, hideous pocket clips and Milled pocket clips.
If someone was to ask me ‘ I have $500 to spend on pocket knives, what’s the best way to spend it and get the best knives for the money? ‘ The answer would be depending on what do you want in a knife?
I want the longest lasting, smoothest, under 5 ounces, discrete in the pocket, non-flipper ( because I carry items in my pocket ) those items hit the flipper tab and semi-open the knife in my pocket.
Smoothest Action pocket knife I’ve ever owned: Real Steel Megalodon by far
Strongest pocket knife I’ve ever owned: Skike Rogue Shark
Lightest pocket knife I ever owned: Benchmade 530, HK Soldat
Sharpest pocket knife I’ve ever owned ( after putting a 17 degree Razor Mirrored Edge on every single knife I buy, sell, trade or collect ) a Kershaw RJ Martin Groove, sharper than the Rocksteads I’ve owned ( unbelievable I know ) I wouldn’t believe it either unless I seen it or owned it. Second sharpest knives I’ve ever owned would be a tie between a Rockstead HIGO and extremely VERY rare ANZA Slip-Joint File Folders. I own the only 4 I’ve ever seen, can’t even find a picture of one on Google Images.
You know a knife is sharp when you can roll up a sheet of copy paper the size of a Papertowel roll, stand it up on a table and slant cut it without the bottom half falling over.

Dude, I’m so there....Waiting for the 31 to come in tanto and I’ll make the jump. Best way I found to deal with the guilt was selling some other knives i had to pay for at least part of the Sebenza. Great take on the CRK phenomenon, we’ve all done the technical aspects over and over. Let’s face it, you’re buying more than the actual knife. Whatever makes you feel good, the hell with common sense....

The sebenza 21 is truly a game changer in the knife industry and its still a light knife for its size in its most simple design which is very comfortable in the hand. Sometimes flashy or fancy ball bearings or fancy steel doesnt makes it a better knife which sets the sebenza apart from their competition.

@@enwin1912 Absolutely, but within reason. I have a fixed blade for really hard use. I work in theatre, designing and building sets, so I use it daily for anything you can think of--from cutting rope and cardboard to slicing through fabric to notching out door hinges and shaving down wood. Absolutely love it. I put a pretty nasty chip in it once cutting through wood that had a buried nail in it. I didn't feel confident enough to fix it myself, so I sent it in for an overdue spa and some new washers. It came back like it was fresh off the line--reblasted scales, action smooth as butter, and a perfect edge. Their warrantee service is unbelievably good, which is one of the major reasons it the knife I'll have for life.

I carried it for a couple of days, and in the meantime I also picked up a Civivi McKenna. I played with the McKenna (which I love BTW) for a solid 2 days, and when I picked up the sebenza again I understood the hype. The McKenna feels great, its a solid action, satisfying, and feels good in the hand. The Sebenza on the other hand feels in a league of its own compared to anything else I own. I have a large 21 tanto, I've also had an Inkosi, and held an Umnumzaan. I bought a large 31 from my local knife dealer when they first dropped and while I do agree with the sentiment that you lose little bit of the lockup sound and feel on both the Inkosi and Umnumzaan, it just isn't the case with the 31. You have to remember that with the Ink and the Umnum you get a significantly different pivot along with the ceramic ball, while with the 31 you're getting the same bushing pivot you do on the 21 just with a ceramic ball interface so there isn't titanium on steel contact. A titanium lock bar can be worn down, among other problems by a steel blade tang, which is why you see a majority of frame lock knives using a steel insert, also the reason why CRK has switched ALL of their "integral locks" to the ceramic ball lockup...

I like spyderco but the Warranty is pretty bad and yeah it's slicey but the blades are chippy and I've found they have no beef on the tip. My Para 3 in s110v snapped off a half inch prying 1/8th in thick vinyl and I was just using the knife to separate the glue... almost completely ruined any chance of me buying another spyderco but I do really like the Para 3 lightweight I just don't even bother doing anything abusive with it. One of the my favorite things about benchmade is they are tough, you can abuse them. Not as slicey as a spyderco but the benchmade will out work and outlast the spyderco. I'm hesitant on working the sebenza tbh lol

The bug eventually bites everyone. It's never official until it's in the hand and becomes official and while you are still alive. The Sebenza is just well made and even generation Alpha ("millennials on steroids") could still appreciate these knives. The Sebenza is like RUclips, it just works well and perhaps lateron will adopt better steels then S35VN that seems average these days but eventually every generation would probably know the name Sebenza. That is a strong brand, and the design should not change (just my opinion) I still like my Buck 110 when slicing a tomato to perfection. I personally will not spend more than $300 for a knife ever but that's just me.
Grandpa always had the best rifles and knives when he was young. Once he got too old he went back to Buck 110, sold all the rifles and bought a decent camera I was told. Wisdom right there but while we are alive one could enjoy the little pleasures that come along once in a while, so get in there and buy that damn upgrade if you can afford it. One life, so many knives and Rifles etc. Have fun!

    Medford knives are a joke.
His knives are twice as big as they need to be. Medford's Panzer has a thumb stud in the middle of the blade. Who puts a thumb stud in the middle of a blade? Medford.

Different designs for different people. It's art really. What one doesn't see others do. That's what makes life so amazing and worth living. :)

I understand art.. Function follows form.
Knives are about utility because knives, first and foremost are tools. Perhaps Medford should design women's shoes if he thinks a thumb stud in the middle of the blade isn't the dumbest thing possible.
