I really hated Jacob in eclipse. He told Bella that if she won’t kiss her he would kill him self. And earlier in the movie he assaulted Bella by kissing her without her consent.
But I can’t say that I love Edward either. Throughout the entire franchise he wanted to kill Bella he even told her that and Bella was like “I don’t care.” And in the books he stalked Bella a lot.
But Alice on the other hand. I simply love her. And she deserved so much more screen time. Honestly the only reason I loved New Moon was because of Alice. I think the only reason Alice and Bella didn’t become a couple is because Alice is married to Jasper. But she’s just amazing. She cares about Bella in a not creepy way. She has life and emotion. She’s gorgeous. And in the books Stephenie Meyer accidentally wrote them a little romantic. I’m definitely Team Alice.

Yeah, I was kinda neutral on Jacob until Eclipse. I SLIGHTLY supported Bella choosing Edward over Jacob simply because that was CLEARLY Bellas preference, but once Jacob sexually assaulted Bella I couldn't stand him.
I never though of the idea of Alice and Bella, since both were straight as far as I could tell and Alice seemed happily married. But if both weren't the case I imagine Alice and Bella could have worked.

Also the fact that for some reason a vampire’s presence/smell is what awakens the shapeshifters (Jacob and his people) ability to shape shift into wolves and they hate it so much because they get the anger issues and such and the fact that the Cullens could’ve moved out of forks since they clearly have the money to do so-so it makes sense why jacob’s family hates the cullens so much cause they could live anywhere but they chose to live near them-which isn’t talked about either in the movies from my memory which idk y would’ve been a good explanation for why Edward & Jacob hated each other from the start even before the whole Bella love triangle thing happened and why the vampires aren’t allowed in their territory

Imprinting in the books is romantic, but when imprinting on a minor it begins as a platonic, protective love and eventually becomes romantic when they're an adult. I feel like imprinting should have instead been described as any kind of love, familial, friendly or romantic; an urge to devote themselves to one person, and that would have lent itself to the same plot without being so creepy.

    • @Anna-B

My brain wants to find imprinting creepy, but I just don’t. Some people think of it like the creepy old man who waits for a girl to turn 18, but I see it as platonic until she’s older, not as him having those feelings and not acting on them

    • @mirgirl

I feel like you have to look at it as a supernatural connection, two people that live forever (or grow slower) have different rules that can be hard to work thru in our head. I don't think twilight did the greatest job on this topic but it is an interesting one. Also imprinting is dark in general and in the books you can see it causes alot of strife in the pack. Someone imprinted on Someone else long term girlfriend when he turned. He also scratched her whole face and she still stayed with him over her boyfriend. They also set up imprinting on underage kids earlier in the books and even Jake thinks it's strange, but says it's not something any of them can control.

I feel your ranking could also stand for the books as well, for the most part. Dominic Noble did reviews for the whole series, and he found that while the first book wasn’t great by any means (and it doesn’t have to be), he could see its appeal, but the story quality really went downhill with each successive book. And while they did split Breaking Dawn into two movies, I do remember from my own experience reading them when they were popular the first time that while I found everything up to the birth and the immediate aftermath (imprinting) engaging, it really jumped the shark after that, and I couldn’t even finish the book.

There's actually a deleted scene in 'Breaking Dawn Part 1,' where Edward reads Jacob's mind right after he imprints on Renesmee and he throws Jacob against a wall (or something like that). But anyways, the first two films are boring, in my opinion. I'm more into the last three films. However, Jacob and Edward were both messed up in their own ways, so I don't really ship Bella with any of them. The movies would've been better if they showed more backstories on the werewolves and vampires (which they did briefly, but not enough). Like it would've been cool to see what Alice looked like and what her life was like before she became a vampire.

I was a little older than the target audience when they came out, but read them because my best friend at the time was gushing about them. The only thing I can say that is positive is that they are better than the series that was spawned from Twilight fanfiction--50 Shades.
I have been in more than one online argument about the Twilight books (I know, I know), and I've found that there's one argument that's almost bullet proof. Pretend it's a friend telling you all this, about her boyfriend literally climbing into her room WITHOUT PERMISSION to watch her sleep. That's not romantic, that's creepy--and it's not taking anything out of context. The series romanticizes stalking, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, forced-birth extremism (she literally dies in childbirth, but that's okay because she's the incubator!), sexual assault, gaslighting...I will have my kids read it so they can get an idea of what those red flags look like *rant over*

Hunger games is so much better. Katniss is such a relatable character (Totally whitewashed in the movies though..). I kind of came here to rant so uhm yeah just ignore me:) I think the best thing about hunger games is that its not the same sterotypical teenage girl falls head over heels. Its Peeta who falls head over heels (I'm just saying, was Katniss seriously going to the hob to trade, but then just watching Peeta throw flour?? I'm confused, as in catching fire she says Peeta doesn't know the hob like her because he didnt really need to go -something along those lines- when she talked about Darius, so where was he lifting flour, i guess their both stalkers?) and a lot of other boys according to Peeta ("I don't know. But a lot of boys like her"-hunger games) whereas Katniss took no notice of them (her first kiss was with Peeta) and never gave it much thought. I also think its because its not really the same as other books? Its about a broken society, capitalism ect. Whereas other books just skim over reality and just show the romance. The fact that Collins was able to break multiple sterotypes in 3 books aimed at teenagers is amazing to me tbh. Watching the movies doesn't do it justice at all, the movies glorify the whole thing and remove characters that would be a threat to the love triangle WHICH IS LITERALLY WHAT THE CAPITOL DOES ABOUT GALE WHO KATNISS ONLY THOUGHT AS A BEST FRIEND!! (characters being; Delly Cartright -Peeta's friend- madge undersee -Katniss's other friend who gives her the pin, but a lot of people suspect her and gale were you know while Katniss was gone- AND DARIUS who flirted with Katniss and Katniss sees this as a joke, but we dont know for sure since Darius died). Its kind of funny that the movies just turn into the capitol, like Katniss did not shave in the books (The actor can keep her body that way, i dont care, but its kind of annoying. Like Katniss was in poverty in the seam and they for a freshly shaven actor to portray her??). It also isn't completely about a love story (Okay, the author said it herself -"Some people focus on the love" or something like that- so to ignore it is stupid BUT I DON'T THINK THE NOVELS THEMSELVES ARE A LOVE STORY, ITS SIMPLY A PLOTLINE) it's about a broken society, manipulation etc. Katniss falls for all of the traps here (Coin's manipulation, Gale literally making her feel guilty and her believing that, feeling guilty for not saving the boy and girl in the woods. So she pretty much blames everything on herself which is relatable) and nobody tries to help her from them. She simply has to get up herself, especially in mockingjay, and nor does anybody particulary feel for her. The fact the movies left out Peeta's leg, Katniss get some of her hair singed off in all three books shows that Hollywood mirros the Capitol in every way by not showing people's flaws in their looks in movies. Also they added like 30 scenes that never happend (especially within the love triangle arc) yet they couldn't add the flaws of Katniss's character?? Like when she completely ignored orders and went on the roof, or when she passed at training because she was smart enough to know that they are targeting her weakness? It seems like the capitol to me.. It kind of rubs me the wrong way that it didn't show Katniss just being friendly with Gale (As she was in the books, she kept it friend-only) and portrayed it as if you have a male friend you have to like them.. That's how it seems, anyway. It also tones her down A LOT, like she was fucking seething in the book when Peeta told the whole country he loved her. And also didn't show when she got like fucking angry at Haymitch during the training for the interview. Not to mention her losing her hearing?? And her and Johanna being roomates (will never forgive them for that) lol
uhm so anyway, its 6 am and i just needed to rant so uh yeah i guess
movies get 1/10 simply bc suzanne worked on screenplay and we must never disrespect suzanne

edit: i dont think looks are too important tbh, but katniss's were important in the books as she was able to climb the tree and the careers couldnt due to their weight -not a big fan- and lack of practice (not saying they should get an underweight actress to play katniss!!!!)

The age difference between Edward and Bella is a perpetual problem in all these vampire romance storylines. Vampire Diaries and Buffy do it too, just to name a few. It's always an at least 100 years old guy with a 17 year old girl. It's like, come on, you're immortal, you can handle waiting another year or 2 until she's an adult!

It's a problem because these are YA books catering to a teenage girl audience, so of course the protagonist has to be a teenage girl they can self insert into. They all try to get around it by saying they are frozen at a certain age regardless of how long they have existe, but it's always weird if you think about it too much.

First movie: Vampires, Second movie: werewolves, Third movie: conflict, Fourth movie: marriage, and child drama. Imprinting is how the werewolves find their soulmates, and it's involuntary. Jacob does not have control over any person, and their age. He can't help it to imprint on a baby. You will understand the imprinting better if you read the books.

I always thought it was interesting that the books establish that imprinting is how the wolves find their soulmates... yet Jacob clearly doesn't imprint on Bella. The books make it clear to both the audiene and the characters that Jacob isn't really meant to be with Bella, but that's sort of glossed over. Though she prefers Edward anyways so I guess it didn't matter.

She had her abilities when she was human and she was sent to an asylum by her dad because Alice saw a vision of him cheating on her mum.
