- Moalboal/Oslob, Philippines 🇵🇭 - The "Sardine Run" in Moalboal is amazing, it's a free activity, plus you get to see turtles as well. I wasn't pleased with a 5 minute video, so I decided to do an activity that I avoided at first, because I heard so many bad things about it. But then I decided to check it out for myself and put my own review on it.

I've been thinking about that for nearly 3 months. I decided to do it to show how it is. I recommend doing a whale shark tour, it is amazing being next to them, but I don't recommend to do it that way, there are better options
Just came back from the Philippines. Go diving next time. Cost more but NO waiting. Just pay , put the gear on and go diving! One of the best experience I had.

Amazing to see the Whale Sharks so close! I have to agree to you that it feels very off to see them so depended on the food they get. Maybe in the future you will be able to visit the wild life Whale sharks! But the footage you got, both from the sardines and the Whale Sharks, is AMAZING! Keep enjoying the Filipino life! 😁

Because they are getting fed, that's why the whale sharks there don't migrate and stay in one place unfortunately

There are whale sharks in Seychelles but they migrate because no one feeds them here. I saw them two times. From November to March they are in the Seychelles waters. I feel sad for them as they cannot continue their migratory routes just for the benefits of money.

Yeah for me its a bad idea, its a kind of animal abuse whale shark are migratory marine species , thats why city of moalboal was heavily critisize for doing this kind of animal abuse

Ignorant people hastily say whale sharks attraction in Oslob should be avoided because they're not natural. Really? How come they're not natural when they're not being captured or restricted with their movement? How come they're not natural when they're not even herded to go to Oslob. Don't you know that whale sharks in Oslob have been visiting Oslob waters for decades already even before the mass tourism in 2012. I remember in 1972 when I was still in grade school, my father and other fishermen used to hate whale sharks because they always got entangled in their fishing nets that they considered them as pests? Some fishermen even hit them with their oars to shoo them away from their nets and the juvenile ones were sometimes killed or injured due to the impact. Only in 2012 when fishermen came to learn to love the whale sharks after the local officials along with other concerned national government agencies and NGOs educated them about the importance of the sharks in our marine ecosystem, thus the introduction of whale sharks attraction as a way to preserve these endangered shark species and avert their fragile existence as they were being hunted or poached in other parts of the world by large commercial fishing companies for trading in black market for their oil and fins. Besides, the whale sharks attraction in Oslob are being supervised by representatives from government and private environmental/ecological groups and academes (e.g. WWF and USC Marine Biology Department) to ensure all the guidelines are strictly enforced in the proper interactions with the sharks. Thus, all guests are required to listen to a 3-minute briefing before they're given priority numbers. The briefing is even translated to Korean and Chinese languages as they make up more than 50% of the international guests. For the rest of the guests, English is the standard language used. All tourist sites in Cebu have both Korean, Chinese and Japanese translations. Based on the current findings, the number of whale sharks in Oslob multiplied to more than 3 dozens since the attraction started in 2012. That only means, the activity is successful in the preservation of the sharks and through this activity, more and more people are educated and become aware of their role in our marine ecosystem. Therefore, as more people from around the world come to Oslob and be educated about whale sharks, it would mean whale sharks get more protection as awareness to their existence is growing every year.
You can read tons of articles about in online that says otherwise. They don't migrate and they stay because they are being fed. A 3 minute briefing won't cut it unfortunately with that many people (especially loads that don't care). They are still getting touched by guests and pushed by the feeders, so they are stressed. I'm not ripping it to shreds, just stating facts.
Apart from it, it's not a nice experience with that many people. It's just a mass cash grab unfortunately.

@@SimsimsamTravels That's not true at all. Search Google or even youtube videos to prove that whale sharks stay around Oslob waters. Or you can even stay in Oslob for longer and make it your mission to prove that whale sharks stay in Oslob. Show it to the world that these sharks don't migrate anymore due to the feeding so that you won't look stupid yourself saying something just because you read articles or other people (who are obviously against it) are saying. During the closure of tourism between March 2020 til September 2020 (the height of Covid-19 pandemic), naturally feeding activities also stopped but the whale sharks keep coming daily. As I said earlier, decades before 2012, those whale sharks have been already visiting every single day and that despite the harsh treatment they got from the local fishermen. I challenge you to stay in Oslob and make it your mission to prove that whale sharks have made a 'permanent home' in Oslob. You can do that to prove to your viewers and subscribers that you're credible person worthy of their trust. Because if you say something out of hearsay or rumors you don't get the respect that you want from your viewers or subscribers unless they idolize you that whatever you do (lie or truth) doesn't matter to them. That's a challenge. I hope you're man enough to accept my challenge. Yes, stay around Oslob and document your mission in search for truth about whale sharks in Oslob because that's all what we want. That's what the people know.
Sorry, I'm not man enough to take your challenge and stop travel vlogging. But maybe you can start a channel and prove me and all these articles wrong, how about that? :)

It is you who commented on the Oslob whale sharks without knowing fully its true nature as to how it was started and how these whale sharks phenomenon came about. If you don't know well enough about something, I advise you not to say or comment anything at all, whether favoring or opposing. Because if you say something, either supporting or opposing, you take full responsibility of what you said to your viewers and subscribers as a vlogger and public figure. You have to produce a fool-proof document (such as academic findings with video) showing such claim. You can't just claim or say something out of hearsay or rumors which was spread by other people who, in turn, have no scientific evidence of their claim.
@@SimsimsamTravels The burden isn't in me to prove to you or to those who oppose the attraction because I, myself, lives near the town of Oslob since my childhood in early 1970s and know that whale sharks in Oslob don't linger there the whole day. The burden is in you, oppositions, because it is you who argue, without proof, that the attraction has affected the migration pattern. Don't you know that they only go to Oslob coastal waters every morning and simply leave mysteriously at noontime. We, locals, don't even know where they go but based on the findings by local scientists, the same sharks who go to Oslob have been sighted in other parts the country. Since 2012, when the attraction in Oslob started, all the whale sharks were tagged and every time they find young ones or juveniles in the group, they tag them as well. From as few as 8 individuals during the 2012 debut of the attraction, they have now monitored over 3 dozens coming to Oslob and not all of them come everyday. As I said before that during the 6-month closure of tourism activities in March 2020-September 2020 due to pandemic, the whale sharks keep going to Oslob everyday even without getting fed just as they did decades before the attraction started in 2012. Don't you know that there are also whale sharks visiting every day in Punta Engano peninsula off Mactan Island but the local officials don't want it made into an attraction because they don't like the area swarmed with tourists? In fact, whale sharks can also be seen anywhere in Cebu and divers/snorkelers have sighted individuals in Dalaguete, Alcoy, Daan Bantayan, Alegria and Moalboal.
