  • If you need a good chuckle today, this dorky video is for you. Last fall we had the chance to visit RoozenGaarde to see how they plant tulips on a massive scale. Jill, Chris, and I got to ride on The Pink Planter to see their new method (which is common practice in Holland) for planting tens of millions of tulip and narcissus bulbs. This will be a solid carpet of flowers come springtime and I can’t wait to come back in April when the tulips are in full bloom.

    And now I KNOW I don't have to fuss with which side of my bulbs are up or down!

      You literally don't have to worry about it. They will turn themselves around and head for the sun when they are ready.

    Few days ago I saw that Nicole from Flower Hill Farm didn't do the manual plant 1 bulb pointy side up at the time and actually did what they do but without the mesh. She did a trial last year to see what happend if you just spread out the bulbs in one layer close to each other without bothering turning the bulbs all in the same direction. And it worked perfectly. She didn't see a difference, they all came up. So she planted more than 10.000 bulbs in about 2 hours this year.And it seams that the place you went to, doesn't care also that the bulbs are not pointy side up when planted. That is really a big time saver.

    My first reaction at reading the name was, "Oh is she in the Netherlands?" Such a Dutch name😄🩷🙌🏼

    WOW, so interesting !! The best news is, so much for "pointy side up" and "not over crowding them" ~ I won't waste time with that any more!!

    That was so cool! I have always wondered how they do that on such a large scale. I have thousands of photos from RoozenGaarde, and the surrounding fields, from over the years. One day I will actually plant my own. Thank you for sharing this with us.

    I'm planting my tulips today thank you so much for showing us this. I won't worry about bruising them or their tunic or pointy side up or not touching each other or any of that malarky anymore !!! They will find their own way regardless just like my anemones do because I can never figure out which way is up with those little knobbly things and they do just fine 🌷

    So, you don't have to plant tulips facing a certain way - they don't have eyes or anything? Aren't most tulips sprayed or treated because fungus and disease are very problematic?

    • @floretflowerfarm
      @floretflowerfarm  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, @notsomuchthankyou! We have a resource on our website that walks you through how we plant tulips here at Floret (www.floretflowers.com/resources/how-to-grow-tulips/). We'd recommend checking with your bulb supplier to find out if they treat their bulbs.
