Good morning, I want to put a Tokai brand car radio model: LAR-82B on a Ford Focus diesel year 2003, this is possible with an adapter. Thank you for your response.
is it like all othet radios? any car radio will fit most vehicles, exceptions are Asian made radios as they do not fit the standard North American vehicles.
I have a 2001 Ford Focus SE and it has an aftermarket radio that needs to be replaced. It was there when I bought it. I believe they installed the same dash kit you're using. My question is, is there a special tool I need to remove the radio? Great video. It's very helpful. Thanks.
You may not need any special tools, you may need a set of release keys if anything. Most units are screwed to the dash which means you normally remove the front part of the radio dash kit to access it. Some are held by the sleeve in place for which you need those keys. Send me a PM with your email so I can send you a pic to what I am refering to if you need.
I'm looking at a 2004 ford focus, and an aftermarket stereo is a huge breaking point for me. I'm new to all of this, so I was just curious whether or not I needed to buy the wiring harness and do all of the soldering and shrink wrapping, or if the harness in the car already would fit in an aftermarket stereo.
you don't need to buy the harness, however a lot of vendors on ebay will include the harness with the dash kit. The harness itself is not to expensive. You can do the install by hard-wiring straight onto the oem harness, you will just have to figure out which wire is which.
I did not install an adapter for the steering wheel controls because this car did not have any. If yours has it, you can use the ASWC-1. Instructions as included to easier install - I recommend that one because I've used it the most.

We have the same car model.I would like to replace my stereo to but I’m not sure what kind of wire harness and to buy , and the radio what model is that? Thank you in advance..😊
Hi, best way to know which harness you need is to remove your radio and check. Most are the same but a few are different. Radio was a kenwood. Let me know and I can get you links to all you will need.
Can you control the radio from the control remote on the side of the wheel cuse i have the similar radio but i did not connected the remote wires to control the radio from the remote on the side of the wheel that are for original radio
You can yes, however, you will need an adapter for them to work. Either a aswc-1 or pac. The unit would need power, ground, and connect one wire depending on the radio you installed.
you can use anything you want as long as they are small and long enough to push out the tabs. I have used small flat head screw drivers before I go this ones.
Thanks, this is really helpful! What did you do with those harness wires that are not used, just tape them up? Is it okay to remove them from the harness altogether?
+mrmclemens - no problem, glad it hepls you. I just taped them off, you can cut them off altogether but I would just leave them taped off in case you add something later where you may need them.
So I’ve just picked up an 03 focus with an aftermarket single din already in it, but I have a double din I am going to put in, how exactly would I take the old radio out? Seeing you use those removal tools on the stock radio worries me because the aftermarket one currently in the car has no such holes
You need to use a pair of "keys" for that. They come with the radio, your new one should have a set with it. Look in the package where the manual is and they should be there. Remove the trim around the radio and insert the keys in the middle-outside, they click into place and you can pull the radio out.
I've had an old Kenwood in my 2004 Focus SVT for a few years, the previous owner installed it. I went to put the new Kenwood one in(it's not very old, got it from a friend), and the blue/white wire is connected to the current Kenwood. From what I can find it's for a power antenna, and I have the stock antenna so I have no clue what it's for. Its "T"ed in with 2 other wires, doesn't make any sense to me. I'm ordering all new harnesses since I already need the harness for the new Kenwood, I am just wondering why the blue/white wire is connected to my old Kenwood. Any ideas? Also, the new Kenwood is a KMM-BT318U, and has a different plug then the current. I'm struggling to find it, any websites that I could get a part number off of? Thanks for any info!
I could not find a Kenwood plug for this new Kenwood. Had to get a Pioneer plug and move 2 wires around. Works great though, spent $11 and have all new wiring instead of the old junk. The blue/white wire is for my sub, it didn't work without it.
There is no other good way, reason is the metal tabs that hold it in the dash. Unless you're able to get behind the radio to push the tabs in to remove it. You can also modify a coat hanger or small screw drivers and use that
Depends on your vehicle, these models have two different types. Best way to know is to remove the radio. I have links to both types in the description box.
I have a 2002 Ford focus and I have a jvc radio and I do not know how to turn it on... I have pressed every button... But when it's on, I cannot bring down the volume or change it to the radio instead of CD... Any ideas why it's like that?
I have the 2004 Ford Focus MK1. I was planning to install a 2 DIN radio but from what I saw in your video, it would not fit. I understand that the size supported is 1.5 DIN and not 2 DIN for the MK1 Focus. Is that correct? Is it possible to install a 2 DIN radio the same way or will it not fit? Also, do you know the sizes of the door speakers for the MK1 2004 model? I know they are oval shaped and that they are different size on the front doors compared to the rear door ones. Do you know the official speaker sizes that are supported? Thanks a lot!
