Man! It's SO cool to see this happening. This was my first new car and what got me into tuning cars back in 2002. I had a graphite ZX3, on coils, blue painted calipers, slotted rotters with an RS wing, Cosworth RS exhaust. Autocrossed and tracked the crap out of it. and daily drove it until it hit 220K. This is hitting me in all of the feels...its like seeing my old ride all over again.

My first car was a 93 Mustang but my second car was an 03 Focus ZX3. I absolutely loved that car and have always wanted a SVT Focus. A few years back I was saving up to buy one as my first project car but my mom passed away and all my money went towards funeral arrangements. I cannot express how hyped I am to see throtl tackle this build and love everything about it. That color is minty fresh 😍

Oh man...as a former owner of one of these (see username that I kept from back when I had one 18 years ago), this brought back so many memories! The SVT Focus was a GREAT little car. Easy to drive, great handler, peppy little engine, amazing 6-speed, comfortable, practical hatch...I know why this one was so popular in Europe. If you guys had more time I would have loved to see you turn it into an old Euro-spec Focus RS from that era, with the shorter bumpers and wider fenders, that was always a dream car for me. Great work on this one, made me so happy to hear that exhaust note again!

throtl merely confirming what many of us have known for years: the mk1 focus is a really fun car to drive, way more fun than a lot of people realize.
    Even stock.
Once you add some power and some chassis mods they are literally glue in the corners, and for FWD they rotate beautifully with a touch of mid corner lift off.
If someone is reading this and is thinking about modding one of these just remember parts are starting to get scarce and aftermarket is practically zero save for FSWERKS and Massive Speed System.
And if you can afford it, a Quaife or MFactory diff is a must.
Glad to see the mk1 getting some mainstream love.

Tell me about my aftermarket support it’s so horrible since the car has so much untapped potential the only mods you can get for these cars easily is just suspension, intake , and exhuast and in my case was fat sway bars and rear camber arms but this car just sticks to corners

It's a great car! It's also one of the very few 'compact' cars that I can comfortably drive (after installing a steering wheel spacer) without hitting my head on the roof and depressing the brake and throttle pedal at the same time with my size 49.5 shoes.
But Ford USA has really dropped the ball with those ridiculous bumpers, luckily we didn't have those in Europe.
I've owned a black 3-door hatchback with the 2.0 16V engine and slapped a turbocharger on it and installed the Quaife diff from the RS which was just fantastic. After that I've had two 3-door hatchback ST170's in blue and grey, I turbocharged both of course and on the first ST170 I didn't like the gearing so I swapped the Getrag 6-speed transmission out for the MTX75 from my first Focus before turbocharging it. On the second ST170 I kept the Getrag which actually wasn't that bad with the turbo.

Nice job boys, I have one of these myself, lots of fun to drive - you can beat on it all you like, it has a forged bottom end - practically begging for a turbocharger. They are great urban pocket rockets. The guys in Europe often pull 500hp out of these, and the engines go into everything from Lotuses to track cars. Highly underrated cars, and a bit of a car culture secret. Colin McRae left Subaru to rally these instead - and McRae was never wrong 😜 P.S. the dude at 21:50 can't drive haha - you need to keep it and track it - with a few more suspension mods you will be pleasantly surprised.

I’m so excited for this! I own a 2003 SVT Focus, Competition Orange with the euro. appearance package. Not a really fast car, but fun!! Revs. to 7,800 rpm. and the backfire pops on deceleration never get old… makes me smile every time.

Please keep going with this build, see what's out there for the focus, body work and full paint job, built motor, it's a car nobody does anymore it'll be exciting. My opinion, find a wreaked focus RS and swap everything over, the motor, Trans, brakes, and the awd setup. Would be dope🤞🙏

I had a 2005 Focus ST as my first car and first "build". I'm so glad y'all did this! It's a super fun and nimble platform!

  • @MyCatInABox
    @MyCatInABox 2 года назад

    Yes! Nice👍
Feels good to see y'all put some love into this Fuckus, and get rid of it's loud ass exhaust, and out dated colors...lol.
But, really though- I could never figure out why more of them weren't sold. The SVT Focus was an extremely well balanced car for the everyday driver who wanted a bit more "kick". It looked fantastic, had more performance than the regular Focus, good 6 spd. manual trans., it was a HATCH (😎👍) which is super practical...and with the EAP (European Appearance Package) with the Recaro seats and multi-spoke rims?
    Man! Fuh-get-about-it...
Makes me seriously miss my '03 I used to have 😪.
    Good times, good times...
BTW, that "ceramic windows tint" is LEGIT. It's not just a B.S. fancy sales term- I live in South Texas, with that damn summer sun that COOKS everything not put in the shade.
It makes SUCH a difference in my Sentra. I usually have to turn the A/C fan DOWN from high to medium because it gets TOO cold in my car.
...SO glad I spent the xtra $ on it.

I miss mine. Had an 02 zx3 auto that I swapped in a svt engine, trans and suspension. The zx3 that I had was about 200 lbs lighter than a euro svt and after I made a carbon fiber hood, removed a five gallon buckets worth of sound deadener it ended up being considerably lighter than even the zx3 started out being. I know it wasn't a boosted k20 swapped what ever but by the time I was done building the car ... Coil overs, tubular suspension, lightened wheels, bare bones interior, carbon/kevlar/steel rear hatch, carbon/kevlar hand laid into hand made molds hood and hatch, single mass flywheel, tune, a few odds and ends from C.F.M ( central Florida motorsports) ....that little car would go from 40-110 faster than 0-60 . Such a fun car when the roads got twisty. Rip wedge , I miss you😔. That build was a lot of work because back in 04/05 there just wasn't many companies building performance parts for non Honda/Acura cars. 75% of that car I built using parts from other Ford platforms and being the focus , mazda3 and Volvo c30 we're all the same modular system I could source some go fast stuff from other places. All the other stuff I made.

As a former owner of a focus this def brought great memories of what I wanted to do with it. Unfortunately I was fresh out of high school and broke so all I got was a cai and a different muffler(not even an axle back). I have to say this build was awesome to bring it back from very outdated to what a real street car is like today.
I will admit there are 3 things I think should’ve been done:
1- with the wrap why is all the red/orange hangin out in the sills? I understand it’s be a HUGE pain to wrap it all to show spec not a drip of color showing so I’ll let it slide…but I think really bad with the gray/red clash.
2- did a new exhaust and coilovers and upgraded brakes and all the other stuff but they couldn’t put in a cold air or even a short ram intake? May not give a big gain as they didn’t really do anything performance, but would make it look better under hood.
3- I don’t know if they changed the wheel size but the oe svt wheels are some of my all time favs, those new ones they put on look like some on sale tire store specials wether they’re quality or not.

!!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!! Change Timing components and Belt this is a big failure point on the SVT Focus mainly the tensioner gives out and boom valves collide with pistons.
Also get the rear delrin inserts for the rear shock tophats to get rid of rear clunk when going over bumps.
I have an 04 SVT FoFo myself and going the RS Euro spec look

    • @Planetary13
      @Planetary13 2 года назад

Yes. The SVT engine takes the heavier 2 pound spring on the tensioner. They are hard to find now but 5 acre focus sells those springs to swap in a normal one. FYI

"Wide berth" nautical term originally. Phrase that dates back to the 1600's meaning to allow a large space between ships when mooring(docking) to enable optimum safety and maneuverability. Has since evolved to just make tons of room around something. Much like steer clear... and you should keep it as a shop car. Especially now that fuel is approaching $7/gal.
