    Hi mate cheers for the solid info. Few questions if you don’t mind, I’m going to be applying for the RMR in a couple years, for my gap year.
    1. Currently just turned 16 running 35-40km per week and can do a 3 miler in about 21 minutes. Should I be upping my mileage? And is this time good enough?
    2. I only weigh around 56kg which means I can do all the body weight stuff pretty easily (pass all the PRMC requirements), only thing is it’s going to be hard to put on more muscle while I’m running. Do some lads join on the lower end of the weight scale?
    3. Is it worth it to take cold showers only? Been taking one every day for a year without hot. Are hot sometimes okay?
    Cheers

      Hi mate, Tbh if you're running those sort of distances then fair play as this is going to be such an advantage for you if you consider joining the RMR. I was nowhere near these weekly running totals and your 3 mile run is a very good pace, but there's always room for improvement ;) The thing about RM training is that it’s structured to get you fitter as you naturally progress. What i will say though is try to get used to a few weighted ruck runs and slowly implement some long, heavy ruck marches (Yomps).
      If you are only 58kg's then you are going to need to pile on some muscle and start increasing your calorie intake as i believe the corps exceptance weight is no lower than 65kg's (don't quote me). But there are a few 5"0 blokes cutting about in the corps with legs like tree trunks!

      @@StallionBen83 Great reply mate super helpful! I’ve considered adding some weighted stuff onto my routine but the jury’s still out on whether or not it’s a good idea. Some say go for it, some say it will get you injured and better to let the PTIs sort it.
      Really appreciate it, so thanks 👌

    • @StallionBen83
      @StallionBen83  Год назад +3

      Start off in trainers and work your way up into boots. Go at your own pace and focus on the way you run, get comfortable. Only then can you look at distance, this needs to be progressive over time. For example first week 1 mile 3-4 x a week, then next week 2 miles. 2x 4 miles a week, 5 and 6 etc. you will do a lot of running in the corps and it’ll hurt so the more you’re prepared the easier it’ll be. There’s no shortcut to this it’s a primal movement so develop it and get comfortable being uncomfortable 💪🏻 don’t let the weather put you off, run in the elements, rain, sleet, snow, flying pigs etc.

    Hi mate. I’m just about to turn 29 but I’ve been wanting to sign up for a while. I’ve got a ways to go to get into shape but I was wondering whether you might suggest I’m too old now. The website says 31/32 but most people I talk to try to talk me out of it. What would you suggest, please?

    • @StallionBen83
      @StallionBen83  Год назад +1

      Never too old pal, if anything it’d be a bonus because you know yourself and your body. Anyone can prepare for RM training in 6 months, I’ve posted a few videos about phys and how to prepare if you wanna take a look but your age shouldn’t discourage you. In my troop in training we had 16 year olds and 32/33 year olds, all passed. It’s all in the mindset and down to how much you want it. I would never suggest you’re too old.

    • @StallionBen83
      @StallionBen83  3 года назад +3

      You don’t need to go out buying expensive kit, I didn’t have nothing before I joined up, fitness and a strong positive mindset is all that matters. If you want it that bad you’ll get it.
      Continue running 4-6-10 miles if you can and focus on upper body strength, pull-ups, press-ups, sit-ups etc. It’s all about the fundamentals....

    • @StallionBen83
      @StallionBen83  2 года назад +1

      This is down to the individual, only you know when it’s right to attend. It depends on how much you want it at the end of the day. But don’t let age put you off too much, I’ve known guys pass out of training at 16 & 32. But honestly I would say 18-20, this gives you plenty of time to prepare your body mentally and physically, also to do enough research into what’s expected, life in the Marines etc. But I would also advise 20-25 and say to you live your life a little aswell, maybe go and travel abit to truly identify and understand who you are as an individual. I hope this helps bud 👍🏻

    • @StallionBen83
      @StallionBen83  3 года назад +1

      Nothing wrong with this at all but not necessary. If you lack motivation to train on your own or lack discipline then joining any club that promotes fitness can be beneficial. If you have the money then CrossFit would be something I recommend but be weary of potential injuries. A boot camp military fitness would be an ideal thing to join if one is available in your area.

      If you’re planning on joining early (say 16) then there is no harm in prepping for it now. But obviously still being so young there is no need to thrash yourself silly. Take it slow and build up your fitness slowly, the closer you come to your due-date (1 year out) the more you can turn up the intensity.

    Sorry, one more question. Would you recommend I come in a bit bigger or leaner? I currently weigh 104kg, and stand 198cm tall. I am trying to decide if I should retain that weight for endurance's sake, or lose 9kg so I have less weight on me when I'm running.

    • @StallionBen83
      @StallionBen83  2 года назад +1

      No harm in trimming up because I can guarantee the corps will strip you of weight. Height and weight will benefit you when it comes to yomping, but still all in the mind. As long as you’re comfortable running now then you shouldn’t really struggle, just focus on getting the miles in, distance and sprints. Good luck pal.

      @@person28377 Press-ups = 60 in a minute something to work towards. Pull-ups 6-10 is a good standard to aim for. Sit-ups = 40-60 in a minute is what you should be aiming for 👍🏻 but ideally I would be striving for failure each time. • @StallionBen83
      @StallionBen83  2 года назад +2

      The best thing i can suggest regarding MH or depression is try your best to find the courage within yourself toactually talk to and discuss all issues on your mind, either someone you trust or a professional. Talking to someone and venting is one of the best things an individual suffering from such things can do. And i base this off of my own experiences. If you decide to join up then personally i don't believe you'll have issues, the guys around you will be so close to you (brothers in a sense) who can always be relied upon to discuss any problems one might have. Hope this helps buddy.

    • @StallionBen83
      @StallionBen83  4 года назад +3

      I wouldn’t go too heavy with your weight sessions. High Intensity stuff, like 20-30 reps, 6-7 sets. The corps is all about Strength-Endurance. When you get to a unit then you can get massive, but for pre-training purposes focus on High Intensity training. You will need strength in your legs to complete yomps, so practice marching with weight, between 4-10 milers 👍🏻

    • @StallionBen83
      @StallionBen83  7 месяцев назад

      Honestly, depends on you're upbringing and background. Some lads can crack RM training at 16 but it's a difficult feat to achieve. In my opinion 18-25 is the bracket to go for as your body is still developing. And you need some life experience behind yourself to develop your character and achieve understanding of who you are, maybe travel a bit. If you've had a hard life and a tough upbringing then you won't struggle as much as other recruits. But if you've been smothered/mothered your whole life then you'll stuggle.
